Last week Facebook released it's third iteration of Facebook for Android and this is a major step forward. Ron Richards and Mauricio Balvanera break it down and compare it to Facebook's iPhone counterpart.

While Facebook's previous attempts at an app for Android have been lackluster, this new version, version 1.3.1, is such a step forward that it finally makes using Facebook on your Android worthwhile. The look and feel has started to inch closer to Facebook for the iPhone, so much so that it's nearly impossible to compare the two.
Facebook for Android catches up to it's iPhone cousin with the addition of a notification pane and the ability to accept friend requests, but other functions seem to be missing. But the Android app inches ahead a bit with the inclusion of Android unique functionality. Ultimately, this is a great step forward for Facebook on Android.
