David Prager reviews the NPR News App for the iPhone that plays on demand NPR segments and programming as well as live streams from over 200 NPR stations.
The NPR News App has three major functions. First, it will access live Internet radio streams from over 200 local NPR affiliates across the country. Second, it breaks down programming into shows as well as segments within shows that the end user can play on demand. It also allows for selecting of segments and programs into an ordered playlist. Third, all of NPR's major written news stories are cached in the App and can be read on the iPhone offline.

Kudos to the folks at NPR in going above and beyond by considering both their existing audience as well as the behaviors of the next generation of media consumers. A lot of thought and effort went into taking advantage of NPR's API's as well as the technological capabilities of the iPhone. Inside the NPR blog, you can find an interesting account about the making of the NPR News iPhone App.
