David Prager reviews an iPhone app called RunPee Mobile designed to assist in telling you when it is OK to get up from your seat at the movies to go pee.
RunPee Mobile is the mobile version of the website, RunPee.com, but coded as an iPhone application rather than a mobile website. The app is essentially a database of notes from recently released movies. The notes for each movie correspond with pre-identified times ("PeeTimes") within a movie where there is no substantial action or key plot developments. The goal is for the end user to be able to keep those times handy when they go to the movies so that they know when it is safe to get up and go to the bathroom without missing anything. Each of the PeeTimes expands to a brief textual synopsis of what happens during that specific PeeTime.

Version 1.0 | Developed by Rock Software | $1.99
PROS:
Crowd sourcing of Pee Times (wiki-pee-dia).
Plot summaries of what you'll miss.
Database on post credit easter eggs.
CONS:
Need to be online.
It's just a database with a timer.
The idea of creating a frequently updated database of appropriate times to leave to pee or buy food and drink during currently playing movies is both a fun and a novel idea. I don't think, however, that the sale of access to the database through an iPhone application is one that will be productively used and widely adopted. Most of the sales, I imagine, take place due to the aforementioned novelty and humor associated with the use of the app. I struggle to call this an app, as it really seems to be a conduit to access a database that is otherwise free to access online. I would recommend using your iPhone's built in Safari browser and just surfing over to runpee.com instead.
The price has also been recently increased by 100% (from 99 cents to $1.99). I've heard of planned features to be added to RunPee Mobile such as the ability to sync the applications timer to buzz the phone in your pocket as selected PeeTimes occur. With no added features, I don't see the reason to raise the price, let alone purchase the app in the first place.
