Successful entrepreneur and CEO, Jay Adelson, demystifies the process of launching a company by answering aspiring entrepreneurs' questions. Today he discusses when you should pursue your new venture full-time and give up the day job.
Jay's Chalkboard Notes:
1. Don't quit your day job for as long as possible.
2. Mitigate risk by keeping a paying job.
3. Once you're too distracted to properly do your day job, then it's time to consider quitting.
Your takeaway assignment based on today's question is to map out your schedule for a week. Set aside a clear block of time for your project, whether it's an hour a day, or 3 hours every Wednesday or every Sunday night. Stick to it or else you can't properly discern whether or not you actually have the time to do it on your own. Once you have been disciplined for at least a month, assess your progress. If it was not enough time to effectively move your project forward at the right pace, then think about quitting.
