Some of you have already noticed some small, subtle changes on Revision3.com recently, specifically in our Flash video player. We’ve been working behind the scenes to start the process of upgrading our flash player, as well the entire website for Revision3.com and we’re starting to roll things out for you to enjoy.
Today we’re excited to roll out a major upgrade to our Flash player’s user interface. I’ve embedded a video below so you can see it in action, but allow me to highlight some of the changes:
- Player controls now disappear when the mouse is not over the flash player (we had rolled out an early version of this a few weeks ago too)
- Larger Play/Pause button to the bottom left
- A larger, easier to navigate timeline, with time codes present when rolling over the the timeline with your mouse and a clear marker of where you are in the video
- To the lower right, the video quality button is larger and integrated within the Flash player
These are small, but important changes that we hope you enjoy. As we move into 2009, we’ll be making periodic updates to the Flash player, introducing newer and more interactive functionality. We’d love to hear what think and what kind of functionality you’d like to see in the Flash player, so please leave your comments below and let us know!
2009 is gearing up to be a big year for Revision3.com, so be sure to keep us bookmarked and keep coming back to see what’s new and what’s changed.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support for what’s been an amazing 2008 and wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!
Thanks.

Loving it! Much cooler look and I really like how you can skip ahead so fast and how it says the episode title.
I have a few suggestions though, to make it even better:-
1) Say what show it is where you have episodes, like “Systm : How to rip and encode DVDs”. This will be useful for people embedding in blogs, will introduce the show ‘brands’ to new people rather than just episode names.
2) The quality slider is really nice but a tad too slow.
3) Add a ‘resume’ button if they have already started watching the show via the flash player ala BBC iPlayer (http://boldfire.co.uk/resume.JPG)
Other than that you have an unintrusive and attractive web player, some things most sites fail to achieve, well done
(ps: any chance of PROPER show pages? Like tekzilla with review pages etc.?)
I don’t *use* the flash player, sorry.
I noticed either a bug or a specifically undisclosed feature of the ‘disappearing’ player controls. If I move my mouse outside of the flash object below the top of the controls area (on the sides of lower fifth or bottom) the controls do not disappear. I know hiding in this situation may not be desired for user error correction, but it seems like it would be annoying, bordering on frustrating (although easy to figure out if patient and observant). Hope this helps.
Please, disable autoplay on episode pages.
Disable autoplay? that will never happen. They need that autoplay to give a higher number of views to their advertisers.
Please please please please PLEASE nix the obnoxious ads that cover the whole screen right in the middle of the show. Please?
Nice update to the flash player. I don’t use it all that much but, Every time I do I have noticed some things I would like to see.
1)Pop out video player support. It would be cool to be able to pop the video out of the browser window and give it its own window. It would great if I wanted to keep videos running in chrome while doing other things on the desktop.
2)Chat while watching videos would be cool. If you could implement it sorta like you did the live version that would be awesome.
3)A rating system would be cool too, I don’t really know how many people would use it though.
Anyway great update, and keep up the good work.
