200th Diggnation Reaches Milestone

April 29th, 2009 at 11:40 by Ryan Vance in Shows

Today marks a milestone in not only Revision3’s history, but that of internet television as a medium. Today we celebrate Diggnations’s 200th episode. The show started with a phone call from Kevin Rose to Alex Albrecht. They decided that since iTunes was going to be starting video podcasts, they should put one up. That call happened on a Tuesday and the first episode of Diggnation was posted that Thursday. With that, a revolution in online video began and since then an episode of Diggnation has gone up every week, pretty much without fail. Over the years, Kevin, Alex and their tireless producer David Prager have put tons of time and creativity into this show and have grown an audience of devoted and rabid fans that include celebrities, politicians, athletes, men, women and pets!

Recently we did a live Diggnation on stage at Stubbs in Austin during South By Southwest. Stubbs is the premiere venue in Austin and is the “place to be” during SXSW. When the owner of the venue looked out at the crowd of thousands of screaming fans who had come to see Diggnation that night, he said “I’ve never seen anything like this….this isn’t a band…this is two guys on a couch!” That’s true, but as we all know the show is much more than that. It’s authentic, hilarious, visionary, boozy, community driven and just plain fun. It’s truly a unique and watershed show and this is a moment to be acknowledged by the entertainment industry as a whole.

So, please join me in congratulating the team that makes Diggnation every week: Kevin, Alex, Prager, Hippie Glenn, Mauricio the editor and the Revision3 staff as a whole. The next two hundred episodes are going to be even better than the first!

The full list and profile of each winner is available at http://www.streamingmedia.com/article.asp?id=11081.

Internet television visionary Jim Louderback was recognized for his ability to guide Revision3’s growth to a 3X increase in revenue and 6X increase in video views within 18 months. “It’s an honor to be highlighted by Streaming Media, and even more of an honor to be in such amazing company,” said Jim Louderback, CEO, Revision3. “We’ve come so far as an industry, but there’s such tremendous potential just over the horizon. We’re looking forward to continuing to build out our amazing Revision3 viewing experience, while pushing Internet TV towards its destiny as the ultimate source of video-based entertainment and information.”

This year’s Streaming Media All-Star team—comprised of executives from companies such as Hulu, TiVo, Adobe Systems, Fox Interactive Media and Harvard University—were selected based not only on personal successes but also for their commitment to streaming media at large, whether in advancing it via technical innovation and business strategies or through efforts to educate the industry.

“This year’s Streaming Media All-Stars represent the diversity of the online video industry today, from the entertainment industry to education and the enterprise, and from hard-core technologists to conceptual visionaries,” says Streaming Media editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen. “But one thing ties them all together: A passion for online video that goes beyond merely advancing their own personal and professional agendas to pushing the entire industry forward. They’re all superstars, but they’re all team players, too.”
