Network Added Top YouTube Talent in 2011 including Epic Meal Time and The Philip DeFranco Show

Increases Viewership in 2011 by 359% to Nearly 800 Million

Increases Revenue 53% Year-Over-Year

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 26, 2012 — Revision3, the leading Internet Television network and the number one source for original technology, gaming, news and entertainment video content, today announced its growth results for 2011. The company grew its revenue 53% year-over-year. Total views across the network increased nearly 359% with close to 800 million worldwide views for the year. The company also increased its YouTube subscriber base by more than 4x, ending the year with nearly 4.5 million YouTube subscribers across all shows.

Additionally, Revision3 started off 2012 with a bang, by delivering more than 9 million views in one week from its groundbreaking coverage of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). At CES, Revision3 produced nearly 230 individual pieces of video across nine different shows and channels.

The company also continued its strong tradition of technology leadership by being the first to deploy a 100% HTML5 player across its entire platform, and by extending its app strategy to even more phones, tablets and smart TVs. Revision3’s Android app provides a particularly sterling example of the company’s vision, as it is among the first single video app that works seamlessly across Android phones, tablets and GoogleTV.

Revision3 continues to successfully bring major brands into the web-original video market, through a combination of in-show sponsorships and high CPM pre-rolls. To that end, the company’s average deal size increased by more than 80% year-over-year. Major advertisers currently include Ford, Doritos, EA, Verizon, Sony, T-Mobile, Citrix, Gamestop, HTC, About.Me and Samsung.

“We had another amazing year in 2011, and are looking forward to a strong 2012 with our content available anywhere and everywhere,” said Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback, “By working with incredibly talented content creators, we have been building a stable of shows that deliver audience numbers as big, or bigger, than most cable shows. And as we look at the web video space, we continue to be the only company that monetizes web-original video at or above traditional television rates, with a current average yield per view of more than $30.”

2011 Milestones include:

Company Performance/Business Strategy
- Increased revenue 53% year over year and viewership 359%. Average yield per view is above $30.
- Content available online at Revision3, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, AOL, Yahoo!, iTunes, Rovi, Divx, Dish online, Clearleap, DailyMotion, Clicker, Metacafe, and Twonky, as well as “in the air” on Virgin America’s award winning in-flight Entertainment platform

You’re not alone – early tracking shows that within the first 3 weeks of its rollout, Revision3′s HTML5 player is carrying a full 10% of our video views.

While this doesn’t sound like a lot, consider:

Android and iOS streaming combined cover 12% of all our views (Many mobile views are still downloaded and played, rather than streamed)

Our HTML5 player is not yet available on FireFox (we will make it available on the popular browser in Q1 of 2012)

New “leanback experience” set top boxes are becoming available in 2012 which are HTML5-only devices

Given all of that, 10% in 3 weeks is pretty remarkable. If that adoption rate continues, almost a half of Revision3′s views will be coming from HTML5 enabled browsers and devices when we leave 2012 and go into 2013! (Well, you know, assuming that the world doesn’t come to an end in 2012 and stuff.)

This year was the most coverage we’ve ever shot and released from CES!

Revision3’s team of hosts, shooters, editors and uploaders released 214 segments of original tech content in just 4 days. Our tireless team also put on 3 HD live streams from the show floor, hosted by Tekzilla’s Patrick Norton, using a TriCaster.

The views are still coming in, but as of this morning, we’ve reached almost 7 million views!

In addition to the Tekzilla team, we brought 7 other show teams, including GeekBeat.TV, Hak5, Soldier Knows Best, TechnoBuffalo, Ty’s iHelp, AppJudgment and our newest show/host, Philip DeFranco (YouTube’s PhillyD). We set up 6 editing systems in a dedicated post-production space at the convention center for quick and seamless distribution of segments.

Using Revision3’s trusted show hosts on-site allowed us to bring our viewers an authentic and personalized look at the CES stuff that mattered most to them.

Our entire production was in partnership with Ford which included on site show integrations and branded sponsor reads. All shows were distributed across the Revision3 Platform including Revision3.com, YouTube, Facebook, iTunes, Roku, Boxee, GoogleTV, Android and more.

All segments can be viewed at Revision3.com/CES2012!

See you next year!

His point of view continues to be whip smart as he hilariously deconstructs all the day’s news. It’s this point of view that had amassed him a dedicated audience of 2 million subscribers on YouTube.

We first met Phil at SXSW 2011. I was immediately struck by how smart and humble he is, while having a true vision for himself and his business (which employs a number of talented people). Phil is extremely careful and savvy about how he approaches every decision and every move he makes with his shows. He’s helped launch the careers of a number of top YouTubers and has launched a number of extremely popular channels on the platform. He’s got a nose for talent and “what’s next” that few in this entire industry share. He’s become a friend over these past months and I’m extremely excited to be working with him so closely.

I encourage our audience to check out Phil’s show if you haven’t already. I think you’ll soon make him a part of your daily routine.

Meanwhile please join me in welcoming him to the Revision3 family of shows! We’re excited to have Phil and his production team, including Matty, James and Dani on board!

-Ryan Vance, VP Programming and Production

With today’s release of our Revision3 Android App (version 1.1.2), we’ve successfully used the Android SDKs (out of the box, no special tweaking, we promise) to create a single Android application that runs across:

The experience across all devices is optimized for the specific device: everything from thumbnails to the resolution of the video is optimized to the size, shape, user input device (finger, mouse or remote control) and bandwidth of the device that is running the application. Now that Logitech has released its gTV 2.0 update for the Revue this week, the Revision3 app is downloadable from the gTV Android Market – try it out, it looks gorgeous.

I’m excited to announce that as of today, Revision3 is embracing Amazon’s new Kindle tablet and platform in a huge way. We’ve rolled out a spiffy new Revision3 app that looks and works great on the native Kindle Fire.

We’ve been incredibly impressed with Amazon’s new Kindle. Sure, the $200 cost is great, but with a real 16×9 great looking screen, the Fire offers the ultimate media consumption device for Revision3′s viewers.

Here at Revision3, our viewers have been adamant about wanting to watch our great content on every device from the smallest smart phone to the biggest smart TV. We’ve been working hard to make apps look and work great on Apple’s IOS, Android phones and tablets, smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Vizio and more – and now Amazon’s breakthrough Kindle Fire.

Ultimately, we don’t want to limit our viewers to a specific or narrow set of devices. Amazon’s new Kindle Fire offers a great solution for many viewers – and we’re proud to be an integral partner at launch! So if you have a Fire, download our app and enjoy your favorite Revision3 shows on this great new device. But even if you don’t, rest assured that we’re committed to bringing you our content on whatever device you love.

Get the app here.

It’s been a busy fall here in the Revision3 engine room, and we have two new experiences appearing just in time for your winter enjoyment. (Assuming, you know, you have winter enjoyment where you live.)

Revision3.com HTML5 Player

You’ve been asking for this ever since the iPad first saw the light of day, and we would have loved to have given it to you sooner – but it wasn’t practical until now. Until recently, HTML5 still needed some time in the oven, and features that you knew and loved in our existing Flash player weren’t possible. In addition, the mix of codecs required for each browser condition was a daunting task…

HTML5 Codec/Browser Matrix (thanks to the folks at http://diveintohtml5.com)

Our goal was to keep the HTML5 viewing experience the same as the Flash viewing experience on Revision3.com, but we believe we’ve done better than that. Our new HTML5 player has broken new ground in HTML5 playback, including features like full screen mode, pop-outs, and segment jumps. Oh, and did we mention that it’s faster to load than our Flash player?

Revision3′s new player was built from the ground up to cover as wide a footprint of device and browser combinations as possible. As long as you have a compatible browser (see the chart above), the HTML5 player will load and operate on PCs, Macs or Linux machines. Note, Firefox is currently not supported, but its coming soon! On mobile devices, we have you covered – the Revision3 HTML5 is the player invoked by both iOS and Android devices, and yes…that’s both phones and tablets. (Those of you with Windows Phone 7 devices, stay tuned – we won’t forget about you, either.)

What happens if you don’t have one of the browser or mobile versions we mentioned? Well you don’t get to watch our videos! Uh…ok, not really – our servers will detect the browser and device type you are using and, if it doesn’t support HTML5, it will present the Flash player to you. Basically, you don’t have to do anything except sit back and enjoy Revision3.

Incidentally, if for some reason the HTML5 player isn’t to your liking, and you never want to see it, just log-in to Revision3.com, select the “Preferences” menu, then select the “Site Preferences” tab, and disable “HTML5″ Voilà, you get the Flash player back.

Revision3′s Army of Android Applications

We’ve been leaking these out slowly over the last month, but you need to check out Revision3′s new suite of Android applications. Available and optimized for every conceivable flavor of Android and every Android device, be it phone, tablet or GoogleTV 2.0, we have you covered! (“Fragmentation? We don’t need no stinking fragmentation!”) We even have a version of our Revision3 app optimized for the new Amazon Kindle Fire…and it’s beautiful.

The phone and tablet versions are available as we speak in both the Android Marketplace, the Kindle Fire’s Revision3 App will be available in the Amazon App Store before this week is out, and the GoogleTV 2.0 version will be available as the new GoogleTV upgrades rollout to the Sony and Logitech devices. Note: the GoogleTV 2.0 Application is only the main Revision3 app, not individual apps for each of our shows.

Most franchises also have a face. “The Face of the Network” or “The Face of the Show”. It’s not often that the man behind the scenes is also “The Face Behind the Scenes”. Diggnation‘s man behind the scenes is Hippie Glenn, and to fans of Diggnation, the cameraman has become as recognizable as the hosts.

Glenn’s creativity is a force to be reckoned with. Here are just two examples that have come out of his work on Diggnation: a day editing Diggnation told in 2 minutes and Diggnation at SXSW 2010.

But that’s not the sole reason the camera so often gets turned on him. The camera always turns on Glenn because he has always got a Toasted Donut. When Kevin and Alex (the hosts of Diggnation) ever have a peculiar quandary or topic, Glenn is the first to interject with a unique and entertaining take. Got a stale donut? Just slice it in half, toast it, and it’s fresh as new.

As the regularly scheduled Diggnation series comes to a close, that contribution of Glenn’s to an old episode of Diggnation was the inspiration for the name the new weekly series featuring Glenn McElhose that we’re proud to launch today. The show will feature creative skits, weird stories, food, nutrition, health, travel, and interviews. All of them told through the unique lens of Hippie Glenn.

We’re thrilled about Glenn’s enthusiasm in allowing us to provide an outlet to express his stories, insights, philosophies, and overall creativity and hope you’ll come along for the ride.
