Totally Rad Show Teams Up to Fight Pediatric Cancer

October 15th, 2009 at 02:59 by Ron Richards in Polemics

As the leading cause of death by disease in kids, every year more than 12,000 infants and children are diagnosed with cancer. To put it into relative terms, that means 1 in every 300 kids will be diagnosed with some sort of pediatric cancer by the age of 20. I know, not the most pleasant topic… but just try to imagine having to live with it every second of you life, let alone think about it. Pediatric cancer can be caused by so many things, and unfortunately there is no effective way to prevent or cure it… yet.

Now, you may already know that medical research is the strongest chance that these kids have to fight, and research funded by you is a large source of research progression. Alex, Dan and Jeff of The Totally Rad Show know how much of an impact that one person can make, so they have decided to team up and raise money with Extra Life by participating in their 2nd Annual 24-hour Game-a-thon. We all play games for 24 hours straight anyway, so why not put those uber-micro skills to good use?

This fun and impactful cause supported by the Texas Children’s Hospital has gotten the attention and sympathy of so many of us, including your very own totally rad friends. Literally every cent you give goes to fighting pediatric cancer. I know times are tough and everyone’s tight with their budget right now, but you know it’s not as tough as being 12 and having to live in a hospital and fight a terminal illness every day. Your support in donating will make you feel so good (even better than beating Halo on Legendary) and quite literally save lives.

So how can you get involved? Show your support for the Totally Rad Show and their 24 hours of video games playing by pledging and donating to this great cause.

Thanks.

August 31st, 2009 at 09:07 by Ron Richards in Live Events

If you’re into video games, then there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll be attending the Penny Arcade Expo (also known as PAX) in Seattle, Washington this coming weekend. PAX has only been around for a few years, but has quickly grown to be one of the premiere video game events, a must attend for gamers, developers and fans alike.

Of course it wouldn’t really be a complete event without some representation from Revision3′s awesome shows that cover video games, right? We’re pleased to announce that if you’re going to PAX, you will have THREE chances to see the guys from CO-OP and The Totally Rad Show! Here’s the breakdown of Revision3 events at PAX.

Where: Raven Theatre
Learn how to make your own video podcast! Area 5 Media, formed after the breakup of 1UP’s video department, has a new, online show in the vein of The 1UP Show. CO-OP, currently available on iTunes and on the Revision3 website is the spiritual successor to The 1UP Show and features many of the same cast of characters. This panel will be a “live recording” of a special, PAX episode of CO-OP featuring YOU! Area 5 believes that every gamer has a brain and that the domain of game criticism shouldn’t be restricted just to those lucky enough to have it as their job. Two game chats will be shot in the same style as they are featured on CO-OP and will consist of two members of the Area 5 team (or guests) and at least one member from the CO-OP community. There will then be a demonstration of video-capture and editing processes followed by a Q&A session where anyone can ask questions either about the technicalities of creating a video podcast or about Area 5 and CO-OP.

Totally Rad Show Podcast and Q&A
When: Saturday, September 5th – Noon
Where: Wolfman Theatre

The Totally Rad Show: Live – Hosts Alex Albrecht (Diggnation), Dan Trachtenberg, and Jeff Cannata bring their Webby and Podcast Award winning geek culture show back to PAX, this time for a live performance. Join the guys for an explosion of movie, video game, TV, and comic book news and reviews, and see what makes this Revision3 show such an Internet phenomenon.

If you’re going to PAX, we hope you can make it out to see CO-OP and the Totally Rad Show live as well as the meetup!

Have fun and game on!

Guess Who’s got an App on Boxee? Revision3!

August 26th, 2009 at 11:14 by Ron Richards in Announcements

As you know, one of our mottos here at Revision3 is “Anywhere, Anytime, Any Device, Any Application” and that’s evidenced by how we bend over backwards to make our content available on whatever platform you want to watch it on, be it iTunes, YouTube or TIVO. One of those platforms that were huge fans of is Boxee. If you haven’t heard about Boxee yet, you definitely should as it’s quickly becoming one of the coolest pieces of software for watching video around.

Basically, it’s a way to enjoy the best of Internet Television on your computer or television. Boxee is the first “social” media center, whose free, downloadable software is changing the way we experience home entertainment. On a computer or connected to an HDTV, boxee allows you a simple way to bring all their entertainment into one place including personal movies, TV shows, music and photos, as well as streaming content from websites like Netflix, MLB.TV, Comedy Central, Pandora, Last.fm, and flickr. You can also share information about what you’re watching so friends can enjoy it too through legal sources online. It’s pretty darn cool and I’ve been using it for the majority of my Internet TV watching.

So, when the gang over at Boxee called us up and offered to create a Revision3 app for Boxee, we jumped at the opportunity! Any chance to make it easy for you, our audience, to watch Revision3 on your big screen TV (or any size, really) is definitely something we want to provide. Avner Ronan, Boxee’s CEO said, “”From Tekzilla to the Digg Reel to Co-Op, HD Nation, and Hak5 – Rev3 makes great shows that are available around the globe, on demand. They’re a great fit for Boxee, and we’re excited about the new interface we’ve created with them to encourage more people to watch Rev3 on their big screen.” Avner’s a great guy and so nice of him to say such kind words about Revision3!

If you’re looking for a new and cool way to watch Revision3, we strongly suggest you check out Boxee and install the Revision3 app. I can’t stop playing with it, it’s so cool. Just hook up your media center PC or your laptop to your TV, load up Revision3 on Boxee and then you’re on your way to hours of Revision3 fueled entertainment!

So head over to Boxee’s website, download the client and check it out for yourself.

Here’s what the Revision3 App on Boxee looks like:

Imagine browsing Revision3 with your remote control on your couch! Not bad, eh?

Huge thanks to our friends over at Boxee for putting the app together and helping us make it easier and better for you to watch Revision3 on Boxee!

Let us know what you think of the Revision3 app on Boxee!
