Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?
I'm Dan Brown-- a 20 year old video blogger from Lincoln Nebraska. I've been making videos for three years now and have amassed a quarter of a million subscribers on my YouTube channel.

What are you doing?
Dan 3.0 is as much a show as it is a project as it is a social experiment. For one year (starting on August 2nd, 2010) I am putting control of my life in the hands of Dan 3.0's viewers and documenting the whole thing.

How's that?
To make Dan 3.0 a reality I've partnered with Revision3 (who are awesome... just sayin'). They've built a truly impressive piece of internet that we're calling the Decision Engine through which anyone can submit an idea as to what I should do with my life this year.

Cool! How do I watch?
Revision3.com/dan30 is the official home of Dan 3.0, where you can watch all my episodes depicting my adventures!

How do I submit a task for you to complete?
Simple! Go to revision3.com/dan30/propose, fill out all the fields, and click submit. You can also click the big orange button that says Propose a task from elsewhere on the Dan 3.0 site to get there. You can submit a maximum of two questions per day, so make sure to think them through!

How do I know if my idea is small, medium or large?
Small ideas are ones that can be done with little to no prior planning; medium ideas are ones that can be done with a week or two's worth of planning; large ideas are ones that may take a month or more to plan and carry out.

What if I'm not sure how long my idea would take to plan?
Just make your best guess... don't worry. If it makes it to the top, we'll do it—even if your categorization is a bit off.

What's a Technical Change?
If you think something about the format of the Dan 3.0 show itself should be changed, submit your idea in the decision engine and select technical change instead of small, medium or large in the idea size field. This is so things that aren't technically "tasks" can still be decided upon and either approved or rejected.

Will you do ANYTHING?
Not quite. I won't do anything illegal, I won't do anything that would obviously cause me serious harm, I won't change my girlfriend or anything about my relationship with her (i.e. you can't force us to get married), I'm under no obligation to do anything which would have implications beyond the project year (I still can if it's something really cool, but that decision is mine to make), and I won't do anything that would have a significant negative impact on others.

What if trolls take over?
Worst case scenario, I do have veto power. It's my hope that I never have to use this and it's my pledge that I'll never abuse it, but should the ornery side of the net catch wind of Dan 3.0 it is within my rights to reject any submission.

How are you going to pay for things? Is there a spending limit?
Obviously we don't have unlimited money, but when it comes to bigger goals try not to let the thought of money limit your creativity. Submit your ideas-- however ambitious-- and we'll work with advertisers to make things a financial reality.

So... why?
Because Dan 3.0 will give me all sorts of great stories to tell my grandkids someday.
