Task Details

Apologize to Michael or Bust

submitted by writer-jena last year
Idea Type: Large Task

Now, for those of you who don't know why michael aranda is no longer a part of the project, allow me to quote his formspring: "I wish I knew. For those that don't know, I was working with fellow YouTuber Dan Brown on a project of his called Dan 3.0, in which he was allegedly going to give complete control of his life over to his viewers. I was hired mid-September to film and edit for Dan, allowing him to focus on his project without worrying about carrying around a camera. In October, I accepted an offer to produce a musical album for the band Chameleon Circuit, and it was decided between Dan and myself than I would continue to work on Dan 3.0 through mid-November, at which time I would begin work on the album. Halfway through October, we were preparing for a cross-country road trip. Dan was staying with me in Southern California, and planned to fly back to his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska for a couple days to collect a few of his things, before returning to Southern California with Danielle, his girlfriend. We would then then pack Dan, Danielle, my girlfriend (Kasey), and me into a car and begin the roadtrip. When Dan flew back to Lincoln, however, he ended up staying for almost two weeks, rather than a couple days, all the while maintaining very little communication with me. Shortly before his return to California, he asked in me in a phone call how I felt about the road trip. The wording and the manner in which he asked the question made it obvious to me that he was hoping I would decide not to go. In an email sent shortly thereafter, I asked him, directly, how he felt about having me on the roadtrip. In this reply, he stated that he did not want me to go. He and Danielle flew back in Southern California, picked up a car donated by Ford, and set off on their roadtrip, with not a single word about my involvement with the project. That's what happened with the Dan Brown situation. Normally, I would just shrug it off, but this whole thing has put me in a very bad financial situation. As I write this, I literally have less than ten dollars in all of my bank account combined. I was expecting to be paid by Dan through mid-November, just as he and I had agreed, but him simply cutting me out of the project without a word as left me with $2,000 less than I had budgeted for. The situation wouldn't have even been that bad if he had simply fired me in mid-October. I could have, at that point, begun working on other sources of income. Instead, Dan said nothing to me for weeks, leaving me to expect that I would be paid as agreed. I had (and still have) no idea about whether he was unhappy with my work, my personality, or anything else about my involvement with the project. I don't know what happened, or why. I'm not ever going to be hostile or petty in my interactions with him in the future, but I'm extremely disappointed in how he handled my employment with him, and I'm embittered by the fact that he doesn't, for lack of a better term, seem to give a shit. Moral of the story: I should have insisted that we sign contracts." Dan, I've been a pogotribe member a long time. A LONG time. But I thought you were above this. I thought you were a mature, decent human being that would still hold up his end of a bargain, even if things don't go the way you wanted them to. But more than that, I thought you would care if someone who you seemed to have friendly connections with was struggling financially because of what you did. I don't know why you did what you did, and I find it somewhat sickening that we have to put this in the decision engine for you to even look at this, but I demand a public apology to michael aranda. He's a brilliant film maker who deserves a lot more than this. If you do not perform this task within the week, I will leave your pogo tribe. I know there are others who will do the same. Don't tell us you can't because of the road trip. You can take 20 minutes at a rest stop to do a formal apology.
