Happy Shark Week, everyone! In addition to today's SUPER IMPORTANT SHARK FACT THAT IS TOTALLY RELATED TO GAMING, we've also got a new trailer (and controversy!) for Borderlands 2, a review for Dust: An Elysian Tail, and release dates for tons of 3DS/DS games! Also, XCOM: Enemy Unknown has multiplayer and... an Impossible mode? IMPOSSIBLE, I say!
Episode 346 of the Destructoid Show:
Gearbox Software has caused a bit of a ripple through the Internet today with its reveal of Borderlands 2's "Best Friends Forever" Mechromancer skill tree, dubbed the "Girlfriend" tree by one designer. Why is it nicknamed that? Because it's for people that suck at games. (Jim Sterling)
In the new vid, sequel antagonist Handsome Jack issues a challenge to the new breed of Vault Hunters who are gunning for his position. We get a taste of the affably evil villain that Gearbox is quite proud of, and I have a feeling we're all going to like him too. In an, "I must kill this asshole but he sure is funny" kind of way. (Jim Sterling)
Dust: An Elysian Tail took a long time to reach us, but the wait has most certainly paid off. Few Xbox Live Arcade games are superior, and most of them pale in comparison. At times it can get a touch repetitive, and there are a handful of exasperating moments, but this is nonetheless an arresting game that offers more (and offers it well) than the average XBLA title. (Jim Sterling)
Nintendo has just spilled the beans on their entire first and third party portable lineup, and it looks pretty solid. It seems as if a number of key release dates are among the announcement, such as Paper Mario: Sticker Star (November 11th), Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (October 28th), Fluidity for the eShop (Q4), and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (November 18th). (Chris Carter)
Earlier this year, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a faithful turn-based strategy recreation of the original XCOM, was announced and is being done by the king of the genre, Firaxis Games. Even stranger, the developer is trying to make this game work across PC and consoles. (Allistair Pinsof)
