Happy Comic-Con week! In addition to a preview of this year's SDCC, today's episode also reveals details on Ubisoft's new Assassin's Creed movie tie-in, Borderlands 2's "Vault Rewards" program, and two new playable characters for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. We've also got a recap of last weekend's EVO Championship series, if you weren't able to capture the madness live!
Episode 331 of the Destructoid Show:
For the first time ever, I watched EVO day 3 stream from beginning to end and enjoyed watching every grand final. So much talent on display. It was amazing seeing how much the strategy around these established fighting games have changed since last year. But, above all, it was amazing watching it all unfold with you guys at home, so thanks for joining us in the chat. Read more! (Allistair Pinsof)
Renowned actor and human/shark hybrid Michael Fassbender is attached to produce the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie. Not only that, he'll also take the "lead" role as time-simulating killer-in-training Desmond Miles. Read more! (Jim Sterling)
Tekken's Heihachi and Sony's Japanese feline mascot Toro Inoue are the latest additions to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale's roster. Alongside a lengthy EVO exhibition of these two new characters, a new stage was shown off: Chop Chop Master Onion's Dojo. Read more! (Allistair Pinsof)
Nintendo will show off this 3DS XL at their booth on the SDCC show floor along with many of their newest games. They'll also have a Nintendo Gaming Lounge in the San Diego Ballroom at the Mariott Marquis & Marina, right next door to the convention center. New Super Mario Bros 2, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and Castlevania: Mirror of Fate will be among the playable games there. Read more! (Dale North)
Sony is going to have a tremendous presence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. They're also going to have some big panels taking place, each looking like they'll be worth the five hour wait Comic-Con is known for. The PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale panel on Sunday in particular holds the most interest to me as they'll be revealing two brand new fighters. The Beyond: Two Souls will be interesting too, mostly because Ellen Page will be speaking at it. Read more! (Hamza Aziz)
Fortnite, Epic Games' quirky Minecraft-inspired game announced at the VGAs, will finally be unveiled at Comic-Con next month. Read more! (Allistair Pinsof)
Back in May developer Gazillion Entertainment popped up to say 'Hey!' and drop a trailer and, surprisingly, it looks like it's got a lot of potential. That said, everything looks good in trailers, that's kind of the point. The only way to really tell is to get your hands on it and Marvel has announced that fans will get that opportunity next week at San Diego Comic-Con. Read more! (Liam Fisher)
You've heard so much about the new Tomb Raider, so here's the first chance you'll have to play it. If you're going to San Diego Comic-Con this week (July 12-15), you'll find Tomb Raider there as a playable demo at Square Enix's booth on the show floor. Read more! (Dale North)
The first 100 fans that pre-order The Walking Dead at Activision's booth during San Diego Comic-Con this week will get a necklace of zombie ears. So gross! Read more! (Hamza Aziz)
After showcasing some of the improvements to the Forge map-editing tool and multiplayer, those of us in attendance learned that Spartan Ops, perhaps the most interesting addition to Halo 4, will be playable at San Diego Comic Con. Read more! (Kyle MacGregor)
