And so we did several things one was improve the speed of the scripting language as right now JavaScript in action script we're we're really fast enough to do super. Complicated applications -- fortunately people's computers are getting faster so that's -- but really needed another boost to get more the next level application happened. And so we rewrote the virtual machine that does -- the script engine. And that's now an open source project that we were down at about three years Adobe and we've released -- to Mozilla Foundation and now we're here on the code there was Mozilla. Yeah so the engine in Firefox the scripting engine will be the same one that we have put the flash player. Same version of the language same engine and -- it just in time to parlors across ten times faster about. That converts scripts and native code to do that. It's that was one thing we did the other was come up with a framework help -- these applications now there's lots of frameworks -- and Ajax we started one a while ago for flash called flex. And also chemicals Brian outreach -- now says a lot of frameworks and we think that's really important in the build these applications quickly. And the third thing is Apollo which. Most most most people still haven't really seen this yet but it but. We're we're we're hoping that Richard applications would take off and then people would start seeing some of the limitations and want to get the next level themselves. You know like being able access your local hard disk for data being able to do whether online or offline and then work offline when you are. Be able to reason notification you know lot of things that dust up applications needs to be able to do we kind of lost we went to the web. And so were thinking okay how do we get some of those -- back again but still be a web application. And so that's kind of -- with the."

" So Kevin behind -- right now as a couple hundred developers that are very excited to start building Apollo apps but most of the world up -- public doesn't know what Apollo is they've heard about it you know. The -- is going it was in the new. Can you tell me what it is -- somebody so many people excited to get their hands on it."

" Well glad to see the excitement. Apollo is basically a way to take web applications. -- install them on your computer as -- dust up application so as a web developer you can maker up Natalie run in the browser you can actually deploy that to users just up -- get to it you know from the start menu in windows or from the dock and OS-X. So it really becomes more part of the primary -- user experience in your computer. Now these are actual like pop up windows or anything like that from a browser is the real process that's running on your computer. Why is Adobe doing this. Yeah it's funny because Adobe's really seen as more of a kind of creative designer company and certainly we are we got you know it's offered that. But with the integration Macromedia that happened but a year ago -- came from Macromedia hosts a T -- click there and in the week when we put the companies together. We really focus on how to unify designers and developers. Are authoring tools which you know they're called creative suite right now the way they're all integrated together. And end with Apollo were nibbling basically what we saw was the future of rich Internet applications and so we started brainstorming that. Actually this is really back but five years ago now we start to see. People start to make applications in the browser and start to take advantage of of of just html JavaScript and also flash and flex and where the earliest sites this is cycled the -- more hotel that's the first and I remember that that really started to change. The experience from a page load experience so one screen experience clients that process. They did that with flash and and that's the that's the one that I song and thought okay this is really direction this weeks ago how to make that better. And so we did several things one was improve the speed of the scripting language as right now JavaScript in action script we're we're really fast enough to do super. Complicated applications -- fortunately people's computers are getting faster so that's -- but really needed another boost to get more the next level application happened. And so we rewrote the virtual machine that does -- the script engine. And that's now an open source project that we were down at about three years Adobe and we've released -- to Mozilla Foundation and now we're here on the code there was Mozilla. Yeah so the engine in Firefox the scripting engine will be the same one that we have put the flash player. Same version of the language same engine and -- it just in time to parlors across ten times faster about. That converts scripts and native code to do that. It's that was one thing we did the other was come up with a framework help -- these applications now there's lots of frameworks -- and Ajax we started one a while ago for flash called flex. And also chemicals Brian outreach -- now says a lot of frameworks and we think that's really important in the build these applications quickly. And the third thing is Apollo which. Most most most people still haven't really seen this yet but it but. We're we're we're hoping that Richard applications would take off and then people would start seeing some of the limitations and want to get the next level themselves. You know like being able access your local hard disk for data being able to do whether online or offline and then work offline when you are. Be able to reason notification you know lot of things that dust up applications needs to be able to do we kind of lost we went to the web. And so were thinking okay how do we get some of those -- back again but still be a web application. And so that's kind of -- with the."

" ISS and they demos they -- off the really cool. Now there are also running on all three platforms so you it's gonna be -- wants -- runs anywhere. It's so tell me about your launching with the windows and Mac versions -- what's the release schedule look like."

" So we're starting so Apollo will run on Mac windows and Linux we're starting with Mac and windows for version one so that the release that we're. Putting up -- labs Mac and windows. We had to get the flash player nine to overcome the next we just finished that there's another team's gonna be able to get going on the Linux version of Apollo and they'll be coming out shortly after. One point oh for Mac and windows. Very cool and best of all this is free for developers to get started. So. You're -- this and release this is -- is a free application yet totally it's a completely free run time just like the flash player. Or browsers or the reader. And so and there's also -- that's for you can build Apollo -- and wrap it up in the format to deploy it and that's the freest okay. And also flex the framework is now free to which most people don't realize that that there's a reflects a CK can use to rate. You're rich Internet out using whatever editor you want clips or whatever. So all those things are free and we hope we see most people make applications."
