Is pretty good. Cheesy, and not a really accurate description of "nerds", but still pretty enjoyable. I think I'd watch this more than something like Scrubs or the OC which it is compared to. I think the guys are wrong about this one.
Looks like the critics agree too. http://www.metacritic.com/tv/shows/chuck

Didn’t get a chance to check it out tonight. Doctor Who takes precedence for me.

It had funny moments, it had touching moments. I guess that's why it's compared to Scrubs.
But I don't think they do a good job of blending the two, and that ends up making me feel uncomfortable. Like I'm not supposed to be laughing all of a sudden. I think they'll mention the "email" less and less as it's pretty...what's the word? preposterous... did I spell that right?
I saw it a few weeks ago, so I've had some time to think about it.
If the writing improves, and the geekjokes get better, I'll stick around, till then, they got maybe two more episodes out of me.

Maybe it's because of how the TRS guys tore apart Chuck, but I thought the show wasn't that bad. It's nothing to spectacular either, but it seems to be far from what the guys were saying.

I'm happy to say that I loved it, but sad that I am so diametrically opposed to the guys view. the flashes of images could get annoying quickly, but if they keep the back drop of what's going on, keep the sisters boyfriend (because there could be comedy gold in there). I really had fun with the writing as well. Overall I'm watching it again.

I watched Chuck tonight and thought it was cool. They didn't cover the Mission Impossible joke that Alex mentioned on the show, which was a shame. Overall though, I thought that it was good enough to watch next week.:)

I tried to keep an open mind, despite what the guys said. It was terrible.
Had to turn it off. Bad acting, stupid stunts, just annoying. I'm upset.

We'll see my thoughts about it are still up in the air. I think there could be some good out of this show but to me it doesn't rank up there with Scrubs. That show is just so great on many different levels. Chuck not so much. As it stands now I just don't think I will care about that characters like I do in other shows. Nothing in the first show made me LOL which I was kinda hoping it would. Futurama did but I was watching that during commercials.

I think that is why I liked it so much. I am going to watch it again today.
I watched it waiting to see this horrible train wreck the TRS guys made it out to be and never saw a train wreck. The show was not ground breaking, but it was good. My guess with how off the TRS barometer has been on this kind of thing is that pushing daisies is only so-so and not the amazing show they made it out to be.

I gave it a shot because I've really only watched two shows Smallville and Heroes. So I thought I would branch out a little. I'll DVR it but it's not gonna be something I pick up the Season on DVD or wait by the TV the night it's on to check it out. it's more something along the lines of someone at work is talking about it and I can join the conversation.

Are you serious. See this is thr vibe I get from the show sometimes. That maybe the TRS Guys and some of the messag board audience is too overcritical because of being in the business or knowing soeone in the business. Guess what , this may surprise you but to the 99% of the audience not in the business editing only becomes noticeable when it is so horrible conversations are put on screen out of order. The acting was perfect for what this show is. Its ED , Its Scrubs. Its a funny shut your brain off and watch TV Spy show. Why does everything have to be Lost, Heroes or a reality show to be watched anymore. There is something to be said for entertaining the audience. just and just entertaining the audience. I like that this show doesn't try to mind-**** us all into wondering, what does this all mean in the grand view of the cosmic spectrum of things.

It was soooooo stupid. The premise of how he absorbed information is stupid and poorly executed. The technology references are inaccurate and stupid. I know of no such remote that can turn on a dozen tvs of different manufacturers simultaneously. It followed the basic formula of presenting something at the beginning and using it to save the day at the end, except it was stupid. They even used the same machine for Pete's sake! Sorry Chuck, but I'm gonna have to have brain surgery due to the hemorrage that watching you has caused me.

Its a funny shut your brain off and watch TV Spy show.
See here's the problem with that. The premise is that geeks will watch the show because geeks are portrayed in it. Geeks can't help but think. If they watch something that doesn't make any sense to them and is a complete departure from reality while trying to portray said reality, they'll hate it. Geeks have this one chance to be portrayed on television in a positive light and IT IS STUPID. Not only do they hate the show because it sucks, they hate it because the promise of the premise was broken.
It'd be like watching a show about a british couple living in California, except they don't have british accents or know anything about the country they're from.

Hmmm...That's a pretty good point, I haven't thought of that. I think you are correct, a show about a geek that I assume is geared towards geeks does need to get a lot of stuff correct b/c we are more critical and we do catch things that the average person doesn't...I would like to see the numbers on who watched the premiere...Was it the 18-35 males?
Why did you have to make me think today?:)

I gaurentee this show was not made for geeks. Nobody will ever make a show for geeks and put it on NBC. NBC owns USA ,Bravo and Sci Fi. Thats where they put the shows that are aimed at a narrow audience. This show was made for a wide audience the majority of which are going to accept a generalized representation of what a geek is.

I love the indignation of everyone...
Geek Culture! I mean... come on...
Are we so thin skinned that we can't even take a cartoonish TV show about some lovable nerdy dufus without getting our Star Trek panties in a twist?
Should we start are own GLAD-ish protest group?
Eeesh I'm a giant huge enormous nerd, over weight, pudgy, complete with glasses but funny is still funny even when its about my "culture."
Nerd maybe the new cool, but we're still in our parent's basement when it comes to taking a joke apparently.

I think they are targeting this for the geek demographic, that's why it's on with Heroes and the Quantum Leap rip-off (another subject entirely.) And that's why I think it's going to fail.
If you make a movie or TV show around a niche subject matter you have to nail the details. Chuck seems to exist in some weird dimension where the computer technology is years behind ours...
1) the wonky 90s looking PMP type downloading device
2) the TRS-80 used for text adventure games by college students in 2002 (guestimate)
3) Apple makes the crappiest G5s ever and uses some bizzare self destructing HDD that can't stand a 3ft fall
Yet they have "Buy More" stores, advanced gaming consoles, flip phones and other advanced tech.
And where can I get a job that lets me total the company car without question?
It's seriously lacking in the detail dept and not that funny, but I'm willing to let a couple of eps pile up to see if it gets any better.

I don't know. I saw Chuck, and went "meh." Same with Heroes. Both of them promise something, and neither of them really deliver. Although, I liked the premiere of Chuck a hell of a lot more than the premiere of Heroes. At least with Chuck we got something somewhat new. All Heroes turned out to be is a regurgitated first episode from season one, with a far interesting Hiro storyline sprinkled in for good measure.
Just my two cents.

Yeah I enjoyed it. I do not think it will change the world or inspire deep thought but I did enjoy it enough to tune in for another episode. I'll see how it goes.
I get what folks say about the mix of comedy and action, it's diffrent because the slant and style of the show is cartoony, but the action is relatively serious.
I've seen far worse stuff on tv and it certainly beats watching the 25th something version of a reality show or crime drama for me.

The show was bad. I chuckled at it during parts, but I had seen it all before. There were some victories, but it was exactly what it shouldn't have been. I mean come on do you know how many shots started off on Chuck's shoes? After the first shot starting on his shoes I got it. I don't need you to keep rehashing this same joke over and over again. If I want to watch a comedy I will wait until Thursday night.

It was bad on so many levels: I guess perhaps I was expecting something with some kind of intelligence or characters with depth.
In theory I can accept the story, but all the geek-references were so wide of the mark it was unbelievable: the porn virus that explodes the computer, the band-aids on the thumbs, the hard drive that's apparently destroyed by a 3 foot drop, and the back-up one that 'crashed'.
It's not that I mind geeks being made fun of: I really don't. Just make sure the stuff they reference actually makes sense (cf "The Trio" in Buffy)
Aside from those issues: why should I keep watching the show? It all seems very predictable:
Chuck's gonna become a hero, and despite occasional muck-ups prove himself surprisingly useful. Baldwin's gonna play the same character as he did in Angel, and we'll find out how the girl dated his best friend, and she'll feel guilty about falling in love with Chuck.

Liked it enough to keep watching, but didn't love it. The chick spy is hot, love the Adam Baldwin as well, but the bearded sidekick was kinda annoying. Did like Chuck as a character, so I'll keep watching for awhile.

now that the first season type thing is over, I have to say. I like it.
I like it so much I had to dig up this thread and bring it back.
Chuck is cheesy, and really silly sometimes, but main characters' relationships are fun enough to keep me smiling(not laughing...not to say that the show isn't funny). I really like the characters(except for Lester).
They still don't have the nerd bit down...it's a bit overplayed, but I appreciate it. Especially the Call of Duty 4 episode. CoD4 EVERYWHERE and I loved that.
I really enjoyed this show, and I wondered what everyone thought after 11 episodes.

After watching the whole season I can say I enjoyed it. Chuck gets so much hot ass its rediculous.
I do have one MAJOR problem with the show.
Why, whenever Chuck is trying to look like a normal person, and he flashes on a badguy, does he say, OUT LOUD that badguys secrets.
Chuck walks past guy and has flash. "Holy crap! Your an evil assassin!"
Assassin, "Well...yes I am. Not sure how you know that but I better kill you now."
Chuck, "Oh nos!"
____
Chuck, "Hey Russian guy, mind if I have a drink here cause I'm a normal computer nerd?" Flash! "Holy crap! Russian mafia guy!"
Russian, "Wierd thing for you to say regular computer nerd. Now you must die."
Chuck, "Oh nos!"

At least he's saying it to someone and not just uttering things to the audience out of context. :) But you're right.. seems like such a weird thing to do. After the first time I was stuffed into the back of a car because I had diarrhea of the mouth after a flash, I'd shut the hell up until I found Casey and Sarah.

yeah it's a good show but I can see why some people might not like it. sometimes I think the TRS guys tend to reeeeealy over examine things. It's their job so maybe that kinda takes the joy out of just sitting down and watching something just because. I think they feel they must analyze every aspect of what they are watching for the show. It's like back in school when they showed a movie in class but made you answer questions to make sure you were paying atention. it just sucked the fun right out of whatever you watched.
Thats why in the early days of TRS I always sided with Alex because he didn't care to much about the acting not being perfect or the camera job sucking, he just sat watched and never over analyzed any part of the movie. I've noticed he has become more aware of good bad acting, directing...ect.
anyone else feel this way?

Kind of. But if he notices it, then I think a lot of people will notice it. He is also an actor so I could imagine he'd have some experience. I still generally have the same feelings about the movies they review as Alex.

I had to dig this thread out of mothballs for the new season.
Chuck is quickly becoming my favorite show on TV. They do an amazing job of keeping the sideplot (the Buy More cast) as interesting and funny as the 'Chuck the Intersect' main-story. (I particularly like the use of the 'thunderdome' this season.)
They ripped the pilot a new one, but does anyone else think it's about time TRS gave a second look at NBC's best show not enough people are watching?

I really wish they would give the show another chance as well, but it probably doesn't matter much. It's looking like this second season's ratings won't earn them another.

I really hope if they don't get a second season they get to finish this one out. Rather see a show wrap up then get canceled mainstream. Plus I don't think they can keep up the whole Chuck/Sarah thing in turmoil for long. Cheers pulled it off because Sam and Diane hated each other a good portion of the time.

The music on this show has been absolutely inspired this year; from Huey Lewis & the News in the first episode, through the Transformers animated movie (aka, 'the good one') power-ballad "The Touch" along with Rush's Tom Sawyer (familiar to anyone with a copy of Rock Band....or anyone alive during the 80s).
The show is so well-written and just plain fun, I just wish more people were watching it.

Is it not getting good ratings? I'm a big fan, but I'm worried it's not catching on. I'm also worried that the love connection thing won't be enough to sustain the show for very long (which isn't to say that I don't love the chemistry between them - great stuff)!
Also, epic burn to the Zune in the latest episode. Best line this season!

Even as a Zune fan, I have to agree. That was slick.

Ideally for me the finish out the story line and give some sort of conclusion. That's all I could ask to get from this show. I'm hooked on it and would hate to see something like FireFly... unless a movie came about.

I agree with you - I like the love story, but I don't think that they can drag it out more, and I'd like to see it concluded.
The romance angle is my favourite part of the show, but for a switch my wife thinks they should just close that up and start really looking into some intersect intrigue. She thinks they can really make hay out of the fact that one dude has secrets that no one department has - maybe he can start making some interesting connections?

Also, epic burn to the Zune in the latest episode. Best line this season! No, the ratings have been fairly poor. The whole season has been bought, so we'll get that, but I'm not sure we'll see a third. Sadly.

I'm glad they finally addressed how Chuck had up to date information in his head with the sunglasses Bryce gave him. It's a tough concept to sell as close enough to believable to excuse it, so throwing in something small like the intersect updates is a big help.

I just got into this show and I watch it on Hulu. It's hilarious. I hope it's able to miraculously stick around.

And as far as I know, the sunglasses only updated him that one time. They don't regularly update him, that would make the sunglasses an intersect and Chuck useless.

Well there were a few flashes where I thought, okay, that seems like very up-to-date intel. But just doing that glasses scene once kinda lets you assume that they regularly imprint updated intel in his head.
