and it's not a Live CD (http://wubi.sourceforge.net/), I found this and it says it will install Ubuntu like a program on Windows. If you no longer want Ubuntu, uninstall like a normal program. Anyone tried it? I am going to when I get my new laptopl

No, it's a full Ubuntu Install, it's just within your windows directory. You don't run both at the same time like parallels or anything or that sort. You still have to reboot and select it from a boot manager to run it, etc.

See here, I complete misunderstood Sammy's description. I thought it was an Ubuntu shell or some such nonsense. Why, Sammy made it sound like something new. People have been booting Linux and Windows from a shared partition for years. All you need is FAT32 built into the kernel.
However, actually using a dedicated partition with the proper file structure is better.

I would prefer to boot with a live cd of mepis antix. The media handlers just work......

I ran wubi for a while and it worked really well.
It also works with Kubuntu.
