If you look at DigitalPoint.com vB forums, you'll notice that they use a nice little Karma system that allows users to add or subtract form someone's karma. It's a bit like post counts, in that people strive to get better karma. However, it doesn't lead to spam like post count does, and leads to more intelligent posts, etc. Users can subtract from someone else's karma score, but that subtracts one from theirs. It seems like a system that works, so why not implement it here. :)
I know what you're talking about and I currently use forums that have that, but I'd rather not have that implemented here. A lot of unneeded crap is started by people getting angry at others who constantly 'neg rep' them, and rightfully so, people do abuse it.
I think so far so good. People are having fun and enjoying these forums. Adding that karma system would just cause drama and in the end, wouldn't benefit these forums.

I don't think it's really needed or necessary. From my experiences of all the forums I go on that have the karma or reputation system is that no one really uses it, and for those that do, it's rarely used properly. It becomes either a popularity contest, people abuse it, or people don't use it at all. It just seems like something extra that the people running this forum shouldn't be worrying about.
People who make quality posts and contribute to the forum will get noticed with or without a rep system.
Anything you can add to a forum like that, causes problems one way or another.

Eh that might be cool....Never been on a forum like it so maybe there are problems that would arise that I don't know about.

I have had my friends tell me enough horror stories about forums with Karma systems...I am going to have to say no.
I agree with Caseworks last sentence ...

Agreed. I have not posted on any boards that do have the karma system, but one of the first things i thought of was flame wars and other BS like that; not something i'm interested in seeing on a forum i frequent.
And, as others have pointed out, Casework's last sentence says it all.
