Quicktime is obtrusive. I won't install it on my box. It tries to display videos in my browser when I want to download them. It runs in my system tray. I don't like it. I would, however, love to be able to watch Diggnation. I listen to the audio, but it would be cool to see the whole show. Could you guys maybe encode it into something else?

Oh, and the whoel "Quicktime playing in the browser" thing? Thats a setting in the Quicktime control panel. Also, right clicking the "Download Now" will let you save the file to a location on your HDD instead of just playing it. There have been some complaints about that not working lately due to browsers not handling URL redirection correctly - to that I say, get a decent browser. Works great in Opera :)

Quicktime is completely configurable to get rid of the stuff you hate. That being said, the windows implementation isn't very good. I recommend VLC as a replacement.

VLC smoothly decodes the standard def h.264 Quicktime files on my 800mhz laptop. Quicktime itself can't do it.

I completely agree. I use VLC for quicktime files as well as other formats like .ogg and .mkv. VLC plays almost every format.

anyone having any luck getting the hd versions into a more compatible format ? I got the gazette into MPEG but I'm not real please with the quality, which may be my own doing, but diggnation I can't get the sound to sync. Looks great, but that's useless if I can't hear right. I get a full second or 2 delay when streaming through tverisity to my ps3.

VLC works great and basically reads everything. Will play the Quicktime HD format without a problem :) . This one wins :) .

Weird that Quicktime blows on Windows and .WMV files blow on Macs...lol
