Play it with VLC. Or, play the large xvid.

I want a small quicktime for my iPod Nano.

It's true that I might have more luck with an another player and I'll give it a shot. I prefer just using iTunes as it's my 'cast client and it can play the small Quicktimes without issue.

Whatever our need for it we're all looking for the same thing here.

The lack of a small quicktime file is an oversight. I was just suggesting a work around until they correct it.

The large quicktime file works on a 5.5G iPod.
Takes up more space, but thats what an 80GB model is for :)

The large file works on a iPhone!!!! YAYAYAYAYA

Does this mean all the shows will now start working on iPhone? :)

Yes.

Was this accomplished by using the wrong, non-standard, file extension for the large H264 file? No. It was accomplished by changing the encoder to something else. The changed from a "Apple Quicktime" file to an "Apple iTunes Video" file. So calling it a "Large Quicktime" is disingenuous at best.

If this change is going to be permanent (I hope not), then the Webmaster should change all occurrences of the "Large Quicktime" in all download sections were this new m4v file has recently appeared and title it correctly.

The file works great. The size is gratuitous.

For other platforms/slow computers, you can just convert the file using ffmpeg, mediacoder or visual hub. Of course there are many other tools, or specific command line tools.

You can make an automator/applescript/shell script/batch file/whatever to automatically copy files from your iTunes directory and convert them every so often, so that they are in a machine friendly format when you need them. This is really nice for people on slow machines, as they can get their video just right, without having to wait for it.

Sounds like a waste of time to me. VLC can run all the formats but the HD on any computer less than six years old. I have a 700 MHZ pentuim II laptop that plays the large quicktime smoothly with VLC.

Please small quicktime! It works perfectly with the PSP's RSS feature. The PSP can automatically download files from RSS feeds. With small quicktime, there is no need to re-encode the files.

The exact nature of a problem restricting video playback can be complicated. You are right in saying that almost any platform should be able to play large quicktime no problem, but I was assuming it could not. Mind that some people may not get stable playback because of drivers, mis-configuration, lots of junk running, etc. I personally have all new computers, so I don't have this problem. But you should always be able to convert a video file to one that works better on your system, assuming that you have a format that does...

Also, if you happen to have a slow computer, the last thing you would want to do is re-encode on a slow computer. It's like watching paint dry.

Besides, we went through this 2 years ago. The issue was settled and the available formats appeared to work find until recently when a solution was created for a problem that didn't exist.

Please bring back a smaller quicktime/mp4 version - just because the iPhone/iPod are big news in the US doesn't mean the rest of us, especially everywhere else around the world have to suffer

I was perfectly happy with the smaller feed for InDigital which played nicely on my Nokia N95 and now with this new show, none of the feeds are compatible with the podcast player - they're simply too high in resolution.

It would be interesting to know how many loyal Rev3 viewers you've lost by not having lower res feeds.

Yeah, VLC is good for shit like that. I was on a 900MHZ turd for a few weeks when my desktop unexpectedly died on me, VLC ran everything I played on it fine.

So, there's always that option for ya.
