Does anyone else have a friend that's just not into movies like you are, and they start giving you movie advice? Because that just happened to me. I was just told to go watch The Guardian, telling me it was intense and powerful.

So, does anyone else have a friend that recommends the worst movies?

Anyone in my family would easily fall under that category. My sister for example said I should go see the Garfield movie because she thought it was good. They forced me to watch The Day After Tomorrow again saying I would like it. Needless to say I don't talk about movies anywhere near my family.

my mom does this with books. she will hand me a book from her collection and tell me all the cool supernatural/fantasy stuff about it, but leave out the fact that it is thinly disguised erotica written by women who have no idea about the opposite sex.

my girlfriend takes all my movie recommendations and seems to like everything i suggest, which probably means she is "the one."

I'm confused, are you nailing Neo or Jet Li?

When I was 15 my mom was concerned on the life choices that I was making. She decided to give me a book that would in theory make me see the error of my ways. She lent me her copy of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. It had the exact opposite effect on me than it was supposed to. Every so often your mom can inadvertantly give you something life affirming (head out of the gutter thank you).

hey, The One was one of the movies I told her she would like and she did. now that I think about it, she has murdered several alternate versions of herself simply to become a more powerful. soon she will be the most powerful entomologist in the multiverse! (not sure if that's a good thing)

People have different tastes. I always take that into account when listing to critiques. If I've already decided to see a movie, I'll ignore most critiques because I like forming my own opinion. I'll often read critic's reviews and compare them too my own.

Friends often come to me for movie recommendations. I have what Tolkien described as a 'elvish' attitude toward these recommendations.

there is no good reason to tell anyone to watch the Guardian regardless of taste.

My brother does that all the time. He invites me to go see the bad movies in the theater, he invited me to see the Cave, and Agent Cody Banks those are the only two I can think of right now. Oh heres the kicker he's older than me and I'm 21 in a month.

Someone in these forums recommended Mysterious Skin. I feel like I've been molested, and no amount of therapy can stop it. Ooh, Doritos...

My friend hates film critic David Edelstein from NPR. Other than that, most of the worst movie advice comes from the TV.
