Well i been back in full swing around here for a while now and there comes a time when you get involved with something that you evaluate your relationship with it.

I have to say, i think im as stoked as the day i returned and really started taking notice of this growing IPTV company. When i realized this is more then just a few podcasts. I want to say thank you to the fine mods, the fine hosts, the video production and sound crews, the gophers, to the ladies working hard, to everyone there, every single one. Your giving us more then we deserve for the price we pay which for most is free and for even us that support you isnt that much. This is truly a living entity on the net, not a shell or copy, a true, living breathing growing idea. It feels good to be part of that in any way, even if its just watching the shows.

So thank you all.

With that said, i present to you my quick little guide to making Rev3 and other podcasts into a media solution that is tight enough for you to drop your cable providers TV selection.

Im running this setup off a 3500+ amd HP laptop with 1gb ram. No problems.

Miro

http://www.getmiro.com/

Miro im using to auto download the feeds. It has a pretty good configurable interface where i can assign a allowed time for it to keep the files, then auto delete. I have mine set up for 6 days on most and downloading only the newest ones, though you can config each feed to download all or a few other options. Also miro does BT, though i have to admit i find using utorrent to be much better and its a light weight solution. Just dump tot he same folder.

To stream to my ps3 i am using TVersity.

Very easy to setup, i dont feel i need to even go into it. Install, assign directory, shazam.

Now for the fun part. The thing that makes TVersity a viable solution is this method of getting divx to encode through it.

Not hard at all and trust me i have tried all methods that are reasonable. This is the easiest. It looks great and if you wanna see the HD potential check out the spitzer HD hidden universe vidcast. http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/features/hd/index.shtml

I would suggest adding through miro though cause there is one thing this setup wont do is work with .mov. Im still looking on how to fix that. Right now im just outputting through QT pro to mpeg4 via pass through. Even a large file it is quick and looks great.

And finally. VNC

Use this to remote in and control the feeds you want to add or convert or whatever else you need to log in for.

So right now i have a setup that i can truly say i dont need cable any more with. As long as i have internet, my laptop and my ps3, im good. So figured id pass it along. Hope it helps someone.

Thank you again Rev3 being the shinning beacon if you will. For freeing me of my need for cable if i so desire. Good luck to you all.

So I take it you will start legally downloading shows over iTunes as well?

Hmm legally ? Am i doing something you guys dont like by using the feeds in Miro ? I was using them all through itunes on that PC but now that im pumping through ps3 its incompatible. I plan on re-adding for the sake of numbers, but having to convert every show would be a pain. This way its just like a tivo.

Oh and for the record im using itunes for my mac and putting them on my ipod/iphone :)

I would if it wasn't so Apple centric. Buying/renting online is much better then regular TV/Cable but not every show has a digital counterpart. Hopefully more networks will have their stuff on Itunes or a competitior (or both).
