Should Patrick Norton film an episode wearing a kilt? Do you think the the theme song should be changed to "Take On Me" by a-ha? Have an idea for a cool segment or product review? Whatever it may be, feel free to post it here!

How about an episode where Wil Wheaton says some funny stuff about video games. Then, Jessica Corbin laughs her head off at all of Wil's jokes.

Maybe also an episode with guest video of Hahn Choi reviewing something. If Wil and Jessica got into that video it would be good too because everyone always likes those three together. We never really care about what they are reviewing. Just that they are funny and entertaining as a trio.

I think both hosts are suffering from post show dramatic stress syndrome. They need to be more original and not try and meld every show they've been in together. Lose the lame gaming section, go more in depth with your products and Patrick let Jessica talk. Also, what's with the F bomb for no reason Pat? Patrick we all like you already and throwing out the F bomb without any substance to back it up just makes you look like you're trying too hard. If you wanna throw the F bomb around fine but do it when it makes sense.

What's with the bricks and graffiti guys? Not very techie and it just looks wrong. I hope you didn't break the bank with that set. Also, Pat if you're gonna do a hands on review try to plan it out and practice it better otherwise pre-record it and edit it like Jessica did with her tutorial. You guys need to smooth out your reviews to make it flow better. Until you guys work these kinks out you're just gonna have a some what mediocre show...

Here is a suggestion. Fix the audio. I couldnt believe how often I had my mouse on the audio control to constantly be turning it up and down to keep the audio level the same. Especially when Jessica screamed, it woke up everyone in the house.

One more note, I agree with the post above. Lose the gaming reviews. There is already an entire network (g4) that ruined an amazing channel (techtv) by converting every awesome show into a gamming show.

The show has potential:

What I liked: -Tips and tricks I didn't know such as battery segment and filming video.
-Patrick Norton

What needs work: -Length: It seemed dragged out, over 30 minutes to learn a couple things? Add more humor or technology stuffs and get a co-host that doesn't play so dumb that leads to long conversation. Show me what you're talking about, highlight some points and move on.
-Set: It works, but seems dull for a tech show. Also cramped/small space.
-Content: Would love to see extraordinary gadgetry that is expensive or I wouldn't have thought existed. Reviews for products that I can afford as well. Vudu? Did you get paid to talk about that? I Really don't see why you have Netflix for a sponsor then try to talk about a $300 + $4/movie package. If it were a product I can put HD content I downloaded for free I would be more enthused about it.

I like the half-hour length. Gives time to fully explain stuff. Especially if, as You mentioned, upcoming shows will feature DIY segments.
Bravo to Patrick & Jessica! Been a fan since the Tech TV days.
The show is great so far.

I really do have high hopes for this show, it has a lot of potential.

I don't think you should drop the gaming segment, just get somebody else to do it. I don't really see Patrick as a gaming segment host. Maybe Wil could do it.

The last segment, about the portable energy supply, was good but didn't really serve a purpose. Patrick showed he made something cool, but he didn't really show how to do it (he could even just reference it in the show notes so it's not encroaching on Systm's type of show). It might not even be a bad idea to have shown a field test or something.

I also don't like the way the show just rolled right in and started a review right off the bat. They should have more of an intro, like Diggnation or TRS. Also, lose the jackass joke at the beginning. It works with Diggnation because it's more laid back, but it's out of place on a show like this.

The set is kind of awkward; it's too enclosed and looks like Hak.5 had a garage sale. The background should be more tech oriented (since the show is TEKzilla).

Everything else was fine. There were audio problems and other such minor edit flaws that definitely need to get worked out, but nothing that turns me off completely. I would also like to see more segments and a longer show overall, which is good. I really enjoyed the show though, and hope it has a long a prosperous run.

I think this is a first good attempt.

Like
I thought the battery segment was awesome. The Japanese flavor too.

Tired
I've seen enough product reviews. Unless they're really revolutionary I'd skip those segments.

Suggestion
We need more of a geek feel. Keep the wardrobe simple Jess, tech T-shirts are the ticket and a little less bling.

The set needs to be more geeky, not industrial but maybe more like your parents basement where you worked on projects. I like the poker table top work area. Get the mature rating from the gambling and not the language, unless it's you Jess. ;)

I really do have high hopes for this show, it has a lot of potential.

I don't think you should drop the gaming segment, just get somebody else to do it. I don't really see Patrick as a gaming segment host. Maybe Wil could do it.eff that, just give Wil his own show where he can rant about old console games, linux, and how much politicians suck. No joke; I'd watch.

This show is like... Well, it's like dl.tv trying to be hip? So there is game news/reviews/whatever.. product reviews... diy stuff... and tips/tricks? S: I think it's just too scattered all over the place and not really about anything. I liked it enough, certainly enough to watch more and see how it turns out, but I just don't know how I would describe it. PixelPerfect is about Photoshop, inDigital was about product reviews, Infected is about martin and how he is so messed up, Tekzilla is about... uhh, well, game reviews and product reviews and random tips and tricks ;x I don't know, i guess there have been other shows like that (as mentioned, the first ep was very similar to dl.tv ) but the segments were just a little bland and I think that makes it feel so "all over the place" to me.

I wanted to second the audio level problems. I'm assuming that it's something the production crew is already aware of, but it's the only thing that stood out to me as bad.

There were definitely some lulls. It'll probably get better as the hosts work together more and develop a chemistry. The interview was long and boring. The whole show could have been edited tighter. The set did suck, but it was probably temporary. Could have used more camera angle changes; the ones that where there weren't very well timed, and felt like an unnecissarily super-close-up.

And what was up with the incredibly sissy handshake (from a man who wears a kilt, and apparently a purse and a makeup bag)?

Oh, yeah... and the audio: compression would be great.

I thought your show was good not great but good. I liked the segment about the Vudu however it could have been a little more informative. The segment Jessica did was ok but it has been done before a lot. The battery bag segment felt as if it should have been a System show with more info and more uses. Oh I almost forgot about the memory test segment yeah it was that boring.

Ok now on to a few ideas. The show is called Tekzilla so show new and up coming tech stuff thats not out yet. Show new software new hardware no games there are to many show that do that (as in The Totally Rad Show and The 1UP show) so leave it to them.

I feel your show was a good one and can be great you just need to go above the other shows. Don't show whats been done but whats going to be done. You need to over load us with tech if your going to use the name Tekzilla.

Love the music, very good cinematography, but I think that the transitions between pieces need to be smoothed out a bit. It's no deal breaker, but it would help the show move more towards mainstream. It just seems like they're jumping around randomly.

Also, an additional segment for viewer emails and questions is an obvious suggestion.

Ok, here we go....Decide what the show is and what it's about, stick to a few things but not everything. i understand needing segments in this show but there has to be a logical balance here. the battery segment belongs over on system. You have an existing show for that type of thing utilize it. Also i like the memory segment BUT get Jessica out of the Room and bring in someone else who is savvy and can CONTRIBUTE to the segment. Having her hovering around while patrick explains is more of a distraction from the segment than anything. Her camera segment was nice but that segment could have been longer and a stand alone. that segment could have been a review of a low end camera and a high end camera with a tutorial built in. while actually showing footage from both cameras of before the "tips" and after the "tips" of the same shots. thereby showing the viewers what you gain by trying the filming a different way...yes i understand that you did this in your segment but the demonstrations could have gone alot further and we the viewers could have gained more wisdom with a little more visualization of the before and after end products. (also helping you with your viewer submitted segments) All of that with product reviews to boot. (Bonus) Someone else said that the game segment was weak, i have to agree. You have a guest on to talk about it and you don't do any REAL talking about it. It was a standard television blurb interview with no substance. THAT SUCKS!!!! (...halo...coop play...good game...microsoft did a good job...) I can get that review off the back of the box or ANY OTHER MEDIA OUTLET. Don't do that, they are a dime a dozen. If you invite an industry person who is a professional in thier field please let them talk and engage them in conversation with GOOD questions about product X. Get into the meat of the product review, even if it's just a little bit. Also this is for that segment and in general as well... Think about the size and nature of what the product or segment is going to be. Then devote the appropriate amount of time to it. Halo3 is one of if not the biggest game release of the year and the segment was short and not in depth. ie that segment should have been longer and designed better. That format and length of time should have been devoted to a new ds game or an equiptment add on or something else. If person X or product X has a certain stature, devote the appropriate amount of time to it. Scale and scaling are very important. Those are the big ones that i see. Pat and Jess were good, the set was ok but not good or great and the pacing was off overall. Segment pacing was good just not the whole shabang. Sound was ok, filming was better and cuts and graphic inserts we very good as usual. Was that enough for you or do you need more?

I'm always happy to see the tech tv crew getting back together but I do have complaints.

My biggest complaint is Jessica. I like Jess but not as a co host on a tech show. Simply, she's not a geek. I like her for segments and interviews but having her and Pat review an Item is basically just Pat monologuing. Grab Kevin or hell Prager and plop'em down with Pat and the show is instantly better.

The chemistry between Jess and Pat just isn't there either. The conversation felt very artificial at times. I know this isn't a show from the TRS or diggnation mold but I would suggest to let the conversation flow more naturally and get off topic a bit, personally one of my favorite aspects of podcasts is when you see hosts drop their host masks and just be friends bullshitting. I'm sure this will work itself out eventually

I hope the set is temporary, it just doesn't show well on camera.

The vudu review disappointed me. I expected a bit more info on the product. The only bit of info on what's in the box was that it's got a 160gb HD in it *shrug* I expect more from Pat =)

I liked Garnet Lee's segment. I find it hard to believe that Pat's a gamer and gives a remote crap about video games but I still enjoyed the segment =)

I would like to see calls fielded =)

Need more Leo Laporte and kilts.

Lawlpat made me smile but never do it again..... please.

Pat swearing put a smile on my face. Hopefully Pat is just himself, who knows maybe he swears like a sailor when he doesn't have to worry about the corporation firing him, he is a bit of a punk and a grease monkey.

I liked everything else. My list of complaints is perhaps misleading, I would watch this show weekly even with no changes made but I would like to see improvements.

I hope the kinks get worked out, good luck.

1. Lose the set. It caused wicked artifacts like your shadows looked as if they were being CGI'd. Also you could not REALLY see the name of the show on the wall. Bad bad set.

2. Table for the interview on the game, I've seen HS sets that stapled cloth to things better. Either get a real table or get a REAL upholsterer.

3. The information of HOW to create the battery pack was slim if none, just that it COULD be done. Well building a house CAN be done, let's see it happen. If you can't please allocate this to Systm.

4. Drop the game stuff. No one needs to see it. There are many more game shows out there.

5. Must we have another tech show where people must stand on either side of a table? And no the answer is not standing behind a table, nor sitting on either side of a table or behind one. Perhaps you can lose the table and slide one in when you need to pick up and put down stuff?

6. When you get viewer mail, read it at the beginning of the show and not at the end. And perhaps even make the segments BASED on the viewer mail? Pick some out, answer two or three in depth and then maybe 2-5 more that can be rapidily answered.

7. The idea of bringing amateur vids is not going to work. As it will be a feast or famine. In other words you will get one maybe two per week that would be VIEWABLE, LISTENABLE and USABLE and the rest will be crap that makes YouTube seem like it should get an Oscar. This will become a nightmare before you know it. Kill it now.

8. Don't rush. If you need more time take it. Record it, edit it or save it for another show and then add it in when you have less content and more time. 30 minutes is fine and for your downloads and bandwidth I am sure that is good enough. I would rather see a longer show at a lower quality than a show hurried for time sacrficing content and getting HD.

Remind yourself the mantra: Content is King. Don't make the mistake Pixel Corp did with going for look over content and getting snagged for the slowness of production. We LIKE looking at pretty stuff, but we'd rather be engaged more than just see pretty piccies.

9. Drop the LOLPat. If it was just for the first show, fine. We need not a repeat. It wasted content space.

10. Ads are very obstrusive when Jessica is reading them. Either have these folks send you content and play it, or make it yourselves, Tekzilla style and charge them for it.

11. When you do the presentation screen for the pros and cons of the product, please please please don't have them bounce around. Just snap them in either from left to right or fade them in. The idea is NOT to overwhelm what the voice over is saying, but to augment what is said.

12. Keep the bloopers. They were the second best part of the show. The first being Patrick using the f-word.

Pros:
- Vudu product reviews, reminds me of the old ZDTV/TechTV days.
- I liked the free software segment, I've known of the memory test application, but it was cool that you guys showed it off and talked about it a bit.

Mixed:
- The game interview felt a little out of place since I didn't expect you to talk about gaming, but the game was covered pretty well and it was still fairly interesting.

Cons:
- The set felt claustrophobic. I liked the bricks and the graffiti but the angle of the bricks was awkward and it didn't look like you guys had very much room to move around. Reminds me of those cardboard presentation boards you would use in grade school to present your projects.

Overall: A pretty good show, will definitely check out the next episode, good job with the editing.

Wow, I'm really excited about this show. It really reminds me of the old TechTV.

First of all, lose the shitty background. A fake brick wall on a tech show? Use a green screen, or something that looks modern and is more exciting than a plain brick wall.

I do like the new Patrick Norton, he makes the show seem more laid back and fun. Great job Patrick!

It would be cool if you could have a "Dark Tips" section and have Kevin Rose drop in to do it. That would totally rock, I really miss The Screen Savers :(.

All in all, good job on the show! Good luck, I hope the show is successful.

1- back the camera up a bit, looks like your squished together, i want to see more and a more interesting BG, brick? come on....

2- more then 2 people, i want to know you guys are having fun with each other, i love unscripted fun moments, competitions are fun too

3- Geekier!!!

4- basically i guess im looking for the show i felt i lost when Alex, yoshi, kevin, and sarah left the screen savers.

P.S ^^^ return of Dark Tips sounds awesome!!

I thought the audio quality of this show was superior to all of the other content on Revision3. There might have been some level issues, but the fidelity of the audio made this seem so much more professional.

Overall you kept me interested and I will absolutely tune in next time. All shows struggle in finding who they are the first few episodes and turn out to be great.

It takes the first couple of shows to really get comfortable with your content and presentation, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of Tekzilla in the coming weeks!

What I want to know is what kind of tech will this show talk about, is it more consumer based products with reviews, like the Vudu box in EP1? Or can I hear some more hearty 'tech' stuff, such as new bleeding-edge computer hardware or making your PC run more energy-efficiently? Because I'm more interested in the latter of the two; the show loses appeal when I'm seeing things I can get at Best-Buy.

If you talk about more 'hearty' tech stuff, please tell me more about this (Fusion ioDrive) new technology; they claim it runs at 1000x the speed of the average hard drive. Here's an article I found at TGDaily.

Thanks for the read!

To me, the show seemed kind of like a watered down (less content) version of indigital. Don't do that. I know you're working on interactivity and such and that's good.

Add more people to the show. You have almost the entire TSS staff working for you... use them. Use Dan, Sarah, Kevin, Alex, and Martin. You can also use the other hosts of the shows that are in-house (which should be all of them if you canceled indigital because of the in-house problem)... like Heather from Control Alt Chicken... she has a good on-screen personality... David Randolph from Systm... Get Burt Monroy to do photoshop tips.

Basically I was expecting this show to kind of like the TWiT of Rev3. Twit is the flagship show that incorporates a little of everything into one show. They have tech news, windows, mac, iphone, etc... but they have other podcasts on the network that go more in depth. Tekzilla should be the flagship show that incorporates a little bit of the other shows. Like martin could do a "twisted list" type segment or something.... I don't know.... Have Kevin and alex talk BRIEFLY about the teknews of the week...

Anyway, i was expecting a little more content. Make it a little longer so you can do all of this stuff.

What am I asking? Basically just recreate the screen savers. Ordinarily when someone says that I would say something like it's impossible or too hard to get everything together... but you guys have many of the people who actually produced TSS... you have the money, the employees, and the ability to really recreated it... or come as close as possible.... So do it.

Jesse.

PS.... oh and I want a nook. Remember the classic TSS nook? Yeah. Oh and maybe (but not required) a staircase... :)

Basically, this felt like DL.TV without Roger and Robert and with a horrible grade-school set. About the set- way too dark. It's like you guys were standing in front of a giant chimney. :) Hopefully it was temporary. Something brighter would be nice.

I hope Patrick and Jessica develop a better chemistry so time won't be wasted trying to convince the other about their segments. Questions to each other are great, but it seems the mind was closed about the manbag before Patrick had a chance to even talk about it. Since the two hosts have different interests along with a huge gap in tech knowledge, I don't see the reviews flowing as smooth as Patrick and Robert did in DL.TV. The idea to bring in other guests to talk about things such as memtest may result in better conveyance.

In my opinion, nothing would be better than having Sarah Lane and Patrick do the show... With Kevin and Jessica as great guest hosts.

Looking forward to the next show and any positive changes. :)

I loved the new show and I think it was better executed than InDigital. Patrick and Jessica were great. The set was a little Hak.5 but still looked good.I like the time spacing on the show. Everything got covered and fully explained without wasting time.

I would like to learn how to make my computer look as if it's located in another country like the UK. Cellphone and Camera reviews are always great since there's a new one every week.

The battery segment was the best part for me. I would like to see more building projects on the same style.

I like the product reviews. I hope in the future more than just one product a week is covered since there are some many great products coming out every day.

I was less happy with the Halo3 review. It was a great interview but if the video game section is a permanent weekly segment, than the show is now no different than DL.TV. And by the end of Patrick run on that show, the show got bloated with to many small less interesting segments. The nice thing about the vidcasts on the net is I can find other shows that focus on a single topic, especially gaming, that do more than just one game. My hope and reason to dislike of the segment is that Tekzilla doesn't try to be an all in one show that doesn't really cover everything completely. The all-in-one concept only works if the show gets longer and has more weekly shows, which I'm all for.

The "Video 101" segment was great. You should follow it up with "Audio 101" as well.

Consider bringing back the Corbin Report segment. It doesn't matter who you have do it, but give a person a gadget and then have them give a 1st week and 4th week report on it.

Maybe Patrick should stop saying "basically" SO MUCH!

Yeah... "Basically" is a well known taboo word for people talking about technology professionally, as its uses implies that the following statement is a dumbed down summary of the actual explanation, usually implying that the listener is not expected to be qualified to understand the complete/accurate explanation. It can also give the impression that the speaker assumes he knows more about the topic he is talking about than the listener. Usually more "conversational" or "presentational" language is best used over "lecture" language, even if the medium is, in fact, a lecture. It is best left out, as it is rarely required. If its required to clarify or bring warning to the following statement its best to:

from:
IA-64 multiprocessing is basically more efficient than x86-64 methods.
to:
In short, most of the time IA-64 multiprocessing is more efficient than x86-64 methods.
or just:
IA-64 multiprocessing is usually more efficient than x86-64 methods.
or if you really wanted to make clear that there was more to the problem than met the eye, without using basically, just say so:
Without getting too deep into details, IA-64 multiprocessing is usually more efficient than x86-64 methods.

Jessica's should check out the cute fingerless gloves that are fashionable these days in San Francisco.

More good segments like the media player and halo sections. The section on using giant batteries to power your ipod was absurd and tiresome. I can't blame Jessica for looking like she was going to nod off during the battery segment.

Show Suggestion:

The BEST (and easiest) way to stream video and audio from a PC to a TV via a server or 3rd party device with support for the most formats. (ie. DIVX, MOV, etc)

I have been looking forever for something that easily does this. The Xbox 360 does it to an extent but requires software to be installed on the computer to transcode video and doesn't always work properly. What is the best way to do this either via software or a hardware solution?

Just my 2 cents. Would love to see it. Great first show. Keep up the excellent work.

Great show looking forward to more.

Some suggestions
1: I would like to see a mixture of Linux, Mac, Windows stuff.
2: On interactive letting the people vid their questions sounds cool.
3: More Depth on the projects like the battery set up even though it was pretty basic would help the newbs.
4: I enjoyed the out takes.
5: Ditch the gaming unless it's hardware, I think that horse has beat to death.

Can't wait for the studio to be finished to see the greater potential come out.

2: On interactive letting the people vid their questions sounds cool.

Yeah, having live or pre-recorded skype calls or even just a chat room would really add to the community/TSS like feel of this show. For example, if Patrick did the same exact battery segment in response to viewer mail or a question, for an additional 5 seconds of content, it would totally change the psychological feel of the whole segment as being just a segment to being a community segment.

Also, I agree on ditching the gaming segment. People who'd want to hear about gaming already do through other podcasts, and people who don't want to hear about gaming news don't care. So basically, only a very small segment of people who care just enough about gaming to find the segment interesting but not enough so to seek dedicated news would get a kick out of it. Also, the show is only a half hour which is short for something on more than one topic, so there is no need to burn the clock on this.

Great to see Patrick and Jessica back. Couple of thoughts: the set is just not right for the show. Maybe a workbench setting? Audio has to be worked on, but that will come with time. Just listen to some of Diggnation's first few episodes; they're not much better. Loved all the segments except for the gaming segment, and the tech segments could get a little grittier. Otherwise keep up the great work!

New shows are always going to be a little slow. Give them time sort things out.
In the next few shows you should show how to make vista work like a os should
are how to put XP on a box that like a dummy started with vista

Patrick + Sledge Hammer = High Rating :)

It would be nice if the shows were live, but I guess that would take some time. Also if more guest or co-host was there. Maybe it's me but I want TSS to make a comeback or at least evolve to a much better show.

first off if you kept the show the way it is i'd still watch it. i know it was the first show so i understand but i know how much potential there is. this show reminds me of the good ol techtv days and with a name on techzilla i'd focus on all different kinds of tech. the only area i'd say to stay away from is gaming. it not what i was watching for, i didn't mind it but i'd rather watch anything else. one ideas for a show i have is on restoring data specifically restoring deleted partitions on an external hard drive.

keep up the good work, can't wait for the next show!

i liked the show. good start. it'll be fun to see where this goes.

show suggestions:
> it's a shot in the dark, but linux related content segments would be cool
> i like someone else's suggestion of the "audio 101" to go along with jessica's vid 101

set suggestions:

I generally agree with most of the forum members

Cussing not needed and unwanted
less product review time
more detailed explanation of projects,

some ideas for future shows

DIY Battery Backup, PSU (Large case/internal solution)
Good tips and practices for case modding (do's and dont's)
mabie segments on what to do with old hardware, eg.
use old pc to make firewall/packet sniffer or a server
the right way to recycle or right way to donate (agencies)

anyway there is some input
hope it helps

It was a nice first show. I'm sure it will be fine-tuned and streamlined over time.

As for show ideas, how about new/innovative websites? New ones crop up all the time and I'm sure some real gems go under because no one knew about them. Spiralfrog would be a good example to start with.

One of the nice things about InDigital was the number of product reviews crammed into one show. The show length is fine for what you are doing, but the pace could be quicker. As far as the audio complaints I have been reading, it is far better than any show of InDigital ever was.

edit: I just went through the show again and saw a teaser for a website before the commercial. That sort of counts, but I was looking for more of a discussion/review of sites that viewers might find interesting instead of a :15 blurb. But it's a good start.

Personally, I enjoyed it greatly.

While I enjoyed Patrick's F-Bomb at the time, in retrospect, it's probably best saved for a different show. I mean ... let's face it ... this is TSS 2.0. Perhaps it should be more family friendly (just bleep, don't edit). That being said ... I really would like to see a harder edged show featuring Patrick. Maybe even something non-tech-related, like a show on cars or the punk music scene. Patrick seems like a complex individual with interesting ideas that he for the most part keeps to himself. I'd like to see a show that explored that a bit more.

I thought Jessica did a fine job. Her segment on video was great. I was a little disappointed that they didn't expand on that with some DIY tips. Google for DIY steadycam, there are some cool ideas out there. I would have loved to see them bring that segment back to the studio with some DIY goodness by Patrick.

As far as having Jessica read the advertisements ... I liked it. Frankly, I use Firefox with flashblock, adblock, and filterset.g ... I just don't see ads online. I know I'm not alone. Personally, I like the diggnation ad model. If I'm watching DLTV, I just skip the ads. But if the host is actually reading the ad or telling me what they think of a product, I'll keep listening.

I also think it would be good to have a couple of other segments from different people. One of the best things about Tech TV back in the day was that if felt like a family. Various shows co-mingled with different personalities doing spots here and there. Also, and I realize this isn't exactly possible with the "on demand" format, but shows used to bleed together, so at the end of TSS, you would get a short spot with the guy from Fresh Gear (or whatever) talking about what was coming up next. Little banter segments like that made Tech TV feel like more than just the sum of it's parts. Revision 3 is building up a solid pool of talent ... I think it would be good to find a way to make the shows somehow interconnect a bit more.

As for the set ... It just feels too sterile. First off ... get some acoustic dampeners or something to cut down on that echo. It makes it feel much more impersonal. Secondly, the brick wall needs to go. Or ... at the very least, it needs to be moved back several feet and some other elements brought in. The set just felt too static with nothing to break up the monotony. It was also too claustrophobic having the hosts that close to the wall. Especially in the Halo 3 segment. Also notice that the hosts were casting harsh shadows on the wall behind them. Maybe a different lighting set up would be more appropriate ... I felt things were overly dark in general (though the set did contribute to that).

One last suggestion ... consider a live audience. I bet lots of people in the SF area would gladly spend their lunch hour watching a taping of Tekzilla. I know I would. Failing that ... perhaps more interaction with production staff ... the camera man ... stuff like that.

Aside from that, I thought the show was great and has HUGE potential. I was so excited to see Patrick Norton make the move to Rev3. I love Leo as much as anybody, and I always thought that TWiT would be the new replacement for Tech TV, but now ... I'm starting to think that Kevin and Rev 3 are the ones that are truly going to make it happen. That being said though ... I'd love to see TWiT and Rev3 join forces. Then they would truly be unstoppable!

Either way ... I'll keep watching. =)

I’m still so sad InDigital is gone. However, since Tekzilla was introduced at InDigitail’s sunset, I am hoping Tekzilla will turn out be a reasonable facsimile.

Jessica’s great. I appreciate her professional on-air persona and her sensitivity in communicating information to the viewer.

I would have never guessed Jes and Pat had a previous on-screen relationship. The lack of chemistry is under whelming. I feel like Pat dismisses Jess and Jess is trying too hard to compensate by forcing complements on Pat. I can only hope these bugs work themselves out.

I love the featured website bumpers, they’re informative and seem to be content relevant.

I’m not getting the one-on-one interview thing. Why is Jess left out?

Right now I’m unclear as to what this show wants to be when it grows up. Still, there is a load of potential and I can’t wait to see how the show develops. I will definitely be back to watch again.

Thanks for all your efforts!

No. This is Tekzilla 1.0.

Yeah, honestly. I watch "The Screen Savers" for about 4 years. Can anyone tell me how Tekzilla is like or even even trying to be like TSS at all? And its a good thing too. The TSS concept does not make sense outside of a daily live show, and even a live TV show at that. Go back and actually watch it sometime.
Now if you mean that Tekzilla might fill the void in your entertainment life left by G4 totally destroying the The Screen Savers, I'd buy that. But its clear that Tekzilla is nothing like TSS.

I love the way the show is going so-far. My only hope is that as it grows you can find more and more content, and maybe get a bigger crew of co-hosts, to really make it the stand-up tech variety show that the world is missing.

The segments were much better and the reviews were good. Thank you for allowing the director of the education museum and Pat to sit and talk. the guy was very engaging and made the segment much better. i thought this was a much better effort on the second episode, but i am still unsure what to expect when i watch. i know i will probably get product reviews and maybe a tutorial, but despite the fact that i liked the history lesson and tour i had no idea it was coming. It felt kind of strange. still good, just out of place. the martin segment was ok and i like webdrifter but that was a commercial for your program. it was an entirely too looonnng commercial. Yah yah yah webdrifter blah blah, we get it. we have all seen it, move along. we'll watch it when you post it we promise, now get back to the show content. if you keep refining this show i think it will turn out really good. as of right now it's ok. not great yet. i have to say though that i still miss indigital. there was just something about that show that it just hit the mark, across the board. i don't know what it was and i can't put my finger on it but it was just honest about the products and themselves. anyway the second show was a definite improvement over the first.

You know, I came into this forum expecting to read suggestions for show segments. But nope. Everybody here seems to think they're Sumner Redstone. I suppose you guys will figure out the audio/video/set/banter ratio/review style stuff on your own and don't really need much input from the vapid masses out here . . . especially since you get so much of that unsolicited.

OK, I like the show so far. Here are some things I'd love to see you guys do:

- A segment on the reports of aluminum iMac crashing problems. Mine's doing it. I'd love to hear some more news about it.
- A segment on the new space industry. There's a ton of stuff going on in the non-governmental commercial space industry, and much of it is in California. Something about the teams doing the X-Prize lunar challenge, or the lunar lander challenge? Anything on some of the new commercial companies like XSpace, Masten space, Armadillo Aerospace (you know, John Carmack's space company!), Blue Origin (Jeff Bezos space company), Space Adventures (the company that puts people on the international space station via Soyuz launches). Any of these would be great tech stories.
- A segment on the state of AI research. Things have been moving in this area. I'd love to hear an interview with a Berkeley or UCLA professor on what's happening in AI these days.
- Maybe a segment on Green technology, like replacement LED lights, building your own solar powered yard lighting system, installing a home wind turbine, the features of some of those power monitors that show you how much juice an appliance uses over time. Stuff like that.
- What is up with the Segway these days?
- The tech of off-road racing. I know Patrick does this stuff. I'd love to hear about how those vehicles are built, some of the tech and monitoring they use, etc.
- Any info about the amateur robotics hobby world. I know there is a lot of stuff going on, from engineering department contests, to remote controlled fighting robots. For example, I heard about Carnegie Mellon working on an lunar prospector robot. Or a story about wearable power-assistant exo-skeletons made by the Kanagawa Institute.
- Info about any of the newest distributed computing projects that I may want to get my home PC involved in (a la Folding at Home, or SETI at home)
- A rundown of the electric cars that will soon be available for sale
- Maybe an overview of the newest car gadgets that are being sold (camera systems, theater systems, sensors, navigation systems)
- HD content status? How many HD channels on each of the cable and satellite providers? Status of downloadable HD from iTunes, NBC, ABC, Fox, Revision3? Where is SciFi network's HD offering??
- Home automation for the tinkerer: X10? INSTEON modules? That Indigo program for the Mac.
- The tech of reef aquariums. Trust me . . . those guys LOVE to talk about all the tech they're using to monitor and automate their setups. And a lot of them are located in California and would love to show a tech crew their massive setups. (Check out the Reef Aquarium Guide or ReefCentral. I don't have one of these setups, but I admire those who do...)

Anyway. Keep up the good work. I'd love to see one or many of these topics shown and discussed on your show. The photos on your museum visit were a great addition to an already very entertaining and informative interview. Similar 'news magazine' type segments would certainly get *me* to watch every episode.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. Its always fun to see people like Woz go on podcasts and talk about the old days. I'd like to learn more about some old hardware. :)

Also, it would be neat to go over how to use some of the "oldish" hardware in you digital life for useful purposes. For example, Pentium II machines make excellent streaming audio clients a la the airport express. And with xgrid in OSX, any OSX running mac should be game to help you crunch your video files or whatever.(well, assuming its fast enough to really be of any help!) And an old Pentium III style laptop + linux + VLC + a VGA to DVI adapter can be a poor man's AppleTV.

Except the box is big. It'll be cool if we can use P2s and P3s on custom motherboards for a smaller form factor (those old comps are pretty big). It'll still be a cool project but getting it into a smaller package would make it awesome.

On episode 1 you guys reviewed a media server for viewing movies called vodo. I bought something awail back that is much better than that. You should really review it for everyone to go out and get! It is called the D-Link Media Server. I got it at Best Buy for around $200. It uses your own pc as a server, and you can play music, videos, or photos straight to your tv using wifi or ethernet access. If you don't have wifi or the internet that's ok to. You can save whatever you want to a usb stick and plug it right onto the box. It plays nearly all formats of video (that I use anyways) including xvid. And it plays in HD. I use this all the time. I downoad Rev3 shows and watch them directly on my widescreen tv. AWESOME. Please consider spreading the word to help people get these. The only two things I don't like is that it doesn't support Quicktime and that the rewind is a bit slow and can be frustrating if you don't wait long enough. And that is the format you guys use for HD. I wish you had HD mpeg files.!!!!!!

You can always crawl back when it get better. Also, everyone asking for the kilt is funny. Never watched DL.TV (or whatever it's referencing) so it's like, why do you want to see a man in a dress? I have no doubt it's funny but I just don't feel like looking it up and watching the reference.

He got in a kilt once on The Screen Savers and then people always asked him to do it again. It's tradition.

If you don't like to hear suggestions and/or criticism, you might want to get out of the show suggestions thread, or atleast start coming up with suggestions of your own. "Maybe you should stop watching" isn't much of a suggestion.

New suggestion for the show:

Interview people long enough for us to hear about more than one of their inventions :p I've seen the guy's invention being sold at Think Geek (or atleast I hope it's him selling it via thinkgeek. If it's not, someone stole his invention) and I'd like to hear about more things that he's invented.

I guess what it boils down to, is that some segments need to last longer, especially interviews with people that could possibly be interesting if given more time.

I wish Patrick and Jessica would stop acting so ridiculous all the time, because it's not funny, just annoying. This show was supposed to be the answer to everyone who wanted a straight 'screensavers/call-for-help revival', focusing on in depth answers for fixing tech problems, showcasing/explaining new crazy computer mods, etc. But now because it's on Rev3, everyone thinks they get to act like an ass clown and regress into college-level banter on screen and go off onto tangents about their personal lives that are really boring and not amusing.

I'm really not trying to hate on them, but it seems like the corporate entity figure (Tech TV) is what kept shows like The Screensavers on the ball all the time; when left to their own devices, the show hosts lose steam and direction and don't put as much depth into what they're trying to cover in each segment. Let me clarify it further by saying that Patrick is the ONLY one who actually knows anything about all these tech products, and that when we was not on the show, it was completely ridiculous with Sarah and Jessica bickering about an ipod or whatever they were doing. Please get rid of that comic book section too... that's what the Totally Rad Show is for, ok?

I understand some people think that Systm is the end-all "super geek tech" program on Rev3 now, but it's really just only that and doesn't apply to the suburban mid-level geek audience that craves attention.

thank you for the inexpensive headphone segment, great stuff. i will be flying to europe next week (i know short notice for a show segment) but i can never hear the audio from my laptop or ipaq because the plane noise is to loud. i am not quite sure if "noise cancelling" bose 250$ headphones can even solve the problem, what about "inexpensive" headphone amps?3

love the show!

How about doing a small section on network cabling. I know all the old timers know about it, and all the quick kids just go wireless, but it is still a pretty important part and can be really important hurdle when moving up in the computer techy ranks! Just a thought...

This is my favorite show on the rev3 network now. Don't get me wrong, I still love diggnation and TRS, But this show by far is the best tech show on the web (and tv). Keep it up guys, cant wait to see what else comes from Rev3!

Now for an idea for a show? I am working on my own website, and would love to see a segment on self made "hosting severs". And what kinda of upload speed one would need for a high traffic site. Is it really cheaper to just pay a host a monthly fee?

Loving the overall vibe of the new show by and large - think Patrick and Jessica have good chemistry, and really enjoyed Sarah Lane filling in while Patrick was on paternity leave (maybe make her a regular on-air contributor again?). I'm an old TSS fan who came here from Leo's TWiT Network, and I'm digging on Tekzilla more than just about any other Rev 3 show so far.

I'm w/everyone who'd rather not hear the talent swearing "in character" on air. This isn't Diggnation, guys - coming from Patrick and Jessica, it sounds unprofessional rather than "edgy". OTOH, swearing in the blooper reel at the end isn't an issue b/c that's "backstage" - and I think we can all accept that an English major like Patrick Norton would know many fine Elizabethean terms.... ;)

I'm with Taswizard on the DiY power supply - SHOW us how you built it, Patrick! Also show us Jessica building a PC from the ground up w/Patrick supervising - I sometimes teach women how to repair computers, and showing a woman successful at hardware installation would be a GREAT boost.

Many of the other "producer interview" segments - not so great and go on too long. I'm with everyone who says if it's not something we haven't heard much about, don't bother - and don't ask the same handful of softball questions. F'instance, why have the recently fired Executive Editor of GAMESPOT on to noodle with ROCK BAND...and NOT ask him anything about why he lost his job? That's like having asking every Presidential candidate this time out on the show - to ask them their MP3 player picks!

The set is - meh. Not quite as bad as the corrugated metal broom closet DL.TV's shot in, but there's a LOT of room for improvement there. Either that, or just shoot it all on location like JUDGMENT DAY was shot.

With all that said, I'm still enjoying TEKZILLA a great deal and I'm glad it's on. You're getting a lot of constructive feedback which I hope you'll all listen to, b/c it's clear just about everyone here wants to see the show succeed. :)

I don't know if it's already been said, or if this is common thought; but I watch my shows at the end of the week and find it slightly annoying having five daily Tekzilla episodes flood the main page. I would suggest having these shows in the margin, or just somewhere out of the way.

Sorry Jim, Ceo of everything, but I have never cared about your opinion, even before you have gotten this job. BRING BACK JEFF!!! from last week. I LOVE JEFF, tell they day I die. I Value his opinions, and have grown up on him for the last 11 YEARS! Dude is crazy funny and most importantly, HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH! The Whole Gamespot Scandal aside. Jeff is a must have, Hire him son! Ain't no question, he can start his own show and I would re-subscribe to my $50 a year subscription with hesitation just for that, even if Diggnation died! I Love Jeff. Please bring him back!!!!!! I am sorry If I seem desperate, but after the last 2 Hotspot's, which were good, and I will keep listening, but Jeff's the man, I miss you something fierce!!! The show is NOT THA SAME WITHOUT YOU!! You bring that funny, style and flava, plus the funny to the show that is just missing without boy! I hope to see your face soon on the Revision 3 staff Son!! Come on Kevin, you know a good reporter when you see one, he will pay of soooooooooooo much in the long run and is a good guy, please hire him!. Good luck in the future Jeff!, and I still love TEKZILLA! I just can't watch that Jim guy! Sorry man, your just too corporate for me, CEO or not. I still respect you, just don't trust you with video games. Give Jeff his own show man! *It's the next big thing!!!*- Say's Patrick Norton, and me and millions of other loyal watchers, listeners and readers. Please snag this guy Kevin Rose, I swear it will pay off, Im begging you. I promise, me, and probably many others will re-subscribe for at least the next year, and in the future if it continues. I watch Techzilla on a widescreen via the Playststion 3. Like DL.tv could you provide a feed in a PSP compatible format. The tiny daily episodes are no problem to encode, but the big shows are just not practical for my PSP converter program. Inevitably the sound uncouples from video in big files.

Why gaming reviews and stories on TEKZILLA period? Didn't G4TV prove that gamers aren't engaged enough in discussing games to carry more than, say, X-PLAY (and they have to include comedy sketches to keep people watching)?

Admittedly I'm no gamer, but am very interested in technology news and how-tos. I loved THE SCREEN SAVERS and CALL FOR HELP on the old TechTV, still enjoy watching DL.TV, and was delighted to make TEKZILLA my first Rev 3 subscription on iTunes. While there's still room for improvement, I think so long as you have Patrick and Jessica talking tech news and showing how to fix/upgrade/build computers, you have a winner here. :)

As for the Louderback hatas? ::shrug:: I guess it's just cool to hate your boss, and you're Rev 3's boss. I also think you'd be doing the whole network more of a favor doing a separate show, or a regular TEKZILLA segment, promoting other Rev 3 programs.

Just watch TRS to get your gaming reviews. Tekzilla doesn't need another thing thrown into it eh? It's like the show has no identity with all this crap. The segments are too short for reviews, and other segments are too long, for example that Bodyworld segment. Come on now.

Hi,

I've watched all Tekzilla episodes until last week. I have stopped watching the show and I am unsubscribing from the podcast feed.

My main complaint is that some of the information you present on the show is INCORRECT. I often spot mistakes in the info you give, and you even apologized repeatedly for giving incorrect info on several episodes. If I cannot trust the information you give on the show then it is pointless to watch!

I may check back with Tekzilla after a few months. Hopefully by then you will have a nice coherent show.

Good luck guys!
Sam

...

The fact is G4 never tried to make GOOD shows about gaming. There is a reason that X-Play is probably the best show on the network, and it was "stolen" from TechTV and it's crappier now than when it was on TechTV.

As far as show improvements I want?

1. Cut the fake sponsors. Seriously, it rarely adds anything funny, and it only works for Diggnation because they are generally completely off the wall (i.e. Alex and/or Kevin are a bit buzzed when doing it) or the ad Alex/Kevin come up with would be inappropriate for a more formal show like Tekzilla.

2. Put real sponsor ads at the beginning and end of the show, cut out the middle ad stuff. Diggnation IMO does the ads right. Having them in the middle gives a break to the show, and I think middle ads should only be reserved for when you are doing a LIVE show. I understand why DL.TV does it, I don't understand why Tekzilla does though.

3. Stop with the "coming up ..." then an ad and then the segment talked about in "coming up." Doing a complete overview of what this episode has at the beginning of the show would be more useful. But giving me an update on what is coming in about 15 seconds isn't that useful. That said, if you are going to do the coming up, give a very short intro into the segment. i.e. You just told me before the ad that we are going to be talking about laptops. I don't need you to tell me that again.

4. Don't waste time, but also don't cut interesting segments short. IMO, the Bodyworld segment was too long, but honestly could have been that I just didn't care that much. But also, some of your interviews with a few people had felt cut short. Also with this, get people that actually know what they are talking about. No offense to the people in the segments, but the Guitar Hero/Rock Band segment a while back felt to me like the two girls didn't understand. It's what I would except from someone who just picked up the game a few hours ago. To me, it felt like another review that could be summed up as "Hey look, Guitar Hero!" or "Hey, Rock Band is different than Guitar Hero." There just wasn't much substance. Also, the Jim "reviewing" the consoles. Was stupid. Look, the consoles "reviewed" have been out for more than a year. Anyone watching Tekzilla already knows. And the one that hasn't been out a year, you didn't have... Seriously? The one console (PS3) that people might not have been beaten over the head with information about, you don't have.

To sum up my above 4 suggestions. Tekzilla IMO just doesn't understand the audience that IS watching.

From there I stumbled on this awesome app called Family.Show
Its a free (as in beer) Genealogy app. This is a type of software that doesn't get nearly enough attention. Tekzilla should check it out and show it off as a software pick.

My girlfriend is Japanese and I'm Australian. We both have a lot of DVDs from our own regions. Japan being 2 and Australia being 4. We watch Japanese DVDs on her MacBook and Australian DVDs on my PowerBook.

Is there a way to work around the Region coding, or are we stuck with this forever.

Don't know if this is the right place or not - but since I can answer your question, it works for me! :D

What you need is called a "region-free" or "all-region" player - or a player that can be hacked to be region-free. Thankfully, a lot of cheaper players can be hacked in this way. That's b/c those players are often all-region to begin with so they can be sold anywhere in the world, and locked in to a specific region by local distributors - usually by using a numeric code entered via the remote. Thankfully, http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks has a list of many players from around the world that can be hacked back to region-free - though read the entries thoroughly and be sure you can return the player you choose, as some hacks may only work with certain firmware versions of the DVD players.

A segment on region-free DVD players and recorders might be something people would be interested in - and I think Leo and Patrick did a few of them back on THE SCREEN SAVERS.

Hey Laith
I was under the impression that most DVD players they sell in Oz are region free or pretty easy to make region free. Our cheap ones are both region free.
But there are websites for sure that have the codes to make them region free.

My one button backup external hard drive backs up documents and settings in XP but I want to know how to get free incremental backup software that only saves the new stuff AND saves my email (outlook express) and firefox settings and that I can then restore from the external harddrive. I backed up my ENTIRE "C" drive onto my external drive and now I can't get the info back. I watch people tell me how to back up "it's easy".. but how do I get it back when my "C" drive fails.

I do a lot of solo hiking and mountain biking in places where there is no cell signal and always wondered "what if" I need help or get injured. No longer. I just picked up a SPOT Messenger personal satellite tracker (http://www.findmespot.com). An accomplished 62 year old hiker got lost two weeks ago (http://www.sbsun.com/usc/ci_7963904) in the woods near my home town just before a major winter storm hit. Even though he used his cell phone to communicate with authorities the first two days, he had no idea where he was. Unfortunately his battery ran down and Search And Rescue never found him. This tech gadget could have saved his life. Mine works great and gives me peace of mind. Also, it is cheaper than a full blown Personal Locater Beacon (PLB) like the ACR MicroFix (http://www.acrelectronics.com/microfix/microfix.htm) (which can only summon authorities while the SPOT Messenger can also let family/friends know you are okay). I'd love to see your review of the SPOT Messenger and hear your take on it.

A tech area I wouldn't mind seeing touched on is the area of Information Security. I am not advocating a rival show to Steve Gibson's podcast "Security Now" but I think this space would give Tekzilla an additional avenue of topics to draw from. The topics could be covered from a few vantage points to keep the content engaging for the Tekzilla audience (from what I read in the forums, is an audience representing the full spectrum of tech sophistication).

I realize that a lot of the Information Security topics can be dry but I have confidence that Patrick can add a bit of his magic to the story and make the coverage engaging and interesting.

Did I lay it on a little thick at the end? Pandering to the host can't hurt... can it?

more of a technical/production suggestion...

Since the cameras are mounted on such nice tripods that can roll around the studio.. i think it would give the show a little more lively feel if it moved a little bit more during longer talking segments..

kind of like hits video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jng7AmPGu_0)

Now i'm definitely NOT in tv/film industry so there may be a great reason why its annoying to do that, i just find most tv shows tend to always have a moving camera so it doesn't feel so dead.

my biggest gripe with tekzilla is the noob-mail.
actually it's not even noob mail it's "i don't know if this exists.... let's email tekzilla instead of searching newegg, google, etc"

the email from ep17 about bluetooth webcam would have been ten times better had he found some and emailed asking for an opinion on quality or for compatibility info, instead of going out and doing the dirty work for the viewer, it's nice of them, but honestly just not that exciting. i'm not so much annoyed with the decision to use the emails, but the lazy people who can't use google. I guess those might be the only emails coming in though, which is a shame if that's the case

all the more reason to re-sort show descriptions and uploads to iTunes.

When you go to podcasts, say, from pros like the BBC - everything is there, neat and orderly, no duplications.

Then you go to Revision3 - and maybe 9 shows and 2 formats are listed as 40-50 podcasts. Because of duplications.

Second. Patrick, please do a show on bluetooth helmets. I ride a bike, and the selection for bluetooth helmets sucks, I want to be able to listen to music, while I ride. The bluetooth add on devices are only single sided, and the full blown helmets are either too expensive or aren't the style I like.

With the huge selection of bluetooth head phones available I think the only way to get what I want is to hack a bluetooth headset into one of my helmets. I've done this with headphones in the past, but if I have to switch devices I have to stop and unplug.

Help! Thanks in advance

Don't get mad at me, but I was wondering if there'll be non-Daily RSS feeds available. I love watching the regular-sized Tekzilla on weekend mornings, but I don't care much for the Tekzilla Daily podcasts.

Also, get Chuck Siu to co-host. He's dreamy.

Suggestions:

- I've said it before and I'll say it again -- feature more episodes with Jeff Cannata and Brendan White.

- Less parenthetical jokes please

- Feature a rotating set of segments (network security, linux hacks, downloads, etc). Don't have a specific pattern -- keep segments rotating so each episode has something new.

- Less Q&A from viewers

- I'm not sure if this would fall under a new show suggestion or not -- get more detailed in discussions... assume that the people watching the show are familiar with technology.

Guys,

You really need to look at splitting the normal & daily feeds up. My iTunes has about 30 episodes all unwatched. Its it just clogging things up as i dont need the daily feeds.

Please please please save my sanity !!

I would love to see a review of Nero 8 Ultra.

After dumping PowerDVD, Nero is my player of choice for HiDef discs. The suite includes so many programs, besides the HiDef player, that I have found it indispensable. Plus it is $20.00 cheaper than PowerDVD.
Stream to my Playstation 3 and Xbox 360
Edit AVCHD from my Sony Cam and burn to Blu-Ray
Convert all my music to MP3
Convert just about any video for my Ipod

And here is the big one (for me):
Hooked up my Verizon Motorola STB (FiOS), by a 1394 connection, to my PC. Now I can record all of my TV shows, including HD content using Nero Vision.

Not a fan-boy.....just glad I finally got my money's worth out of a product.

Peace Out

I still dont get why they dont just make it an option to include the daily shows in your feed.. Seriously, how much effort would it take to write a php script that accepts a "daily" get variable... ...... I don't know how the rev-3 backend works, but i have written many scripts like that, and they are NOT difficult to write. In an ideal world, the feed would be:
revision3.com/tekzilla/feed.php?q=large-quicktime&daily=[0/1/2]
Where 0 means no daily, 1 means both daily and weekly, 2 means only daily..

Then you could have a nice checkbox that lets users choose what kind of feed they want. Would pacify everyone..

I've searched this thread and it doesn't seem like anyone has directly asked for this.

Why not a show devoted to media center PCs and all the fun hardware software that goes with them. I know the show has touched on some of the hardware and software that is in this specific side of computing, but i think a show that put that all together would be great for 2 reasons. One would be purely my own enthusiam for media center PCs and two, I think it would be great to make it known to a larger public of how useful and practical this use for a computer is.

Also, I'd love a segment on HDCP

Not a media PC, but media devices other than the Apple TV. I know that Belkin, Linksys and D-Link make them and I just heard about the Neuros OSD.

I'll re-iterate the call for a review of over-the-air set top boxes, both HD & SD, too.

Hey guys,
I just want to know what to what should I look for when choosing a good quality wireless router?
I'm a student and I like to play LAN games with my friends, the only problem is that port-forwarding has NOT worked in the past. It's configured correctly and passes a port-forward test, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. I've heard of some 'gaming' routers out there, do they really make a difference?

I wasn't going to say anything then I saw this comment and I disagree, Roger is fine on camera, I was surprised there isn't more of him.

I recently installed a WHS, I would like to set up a pc on the network that can record HD content off my satellite receiver and save it (in HD) onto the WHS for network sharing.

Also, I had an old Linux NAS that I built with spare parts, an old P2 750 MHz with 768 ram and an odd selection of Hard disks. I had various computers backing up with Smart Sync to the NAS including a desktop and wireless laptop. About a year ago I was browsing the NAS and found my .jpg's were distorted, some had copied to my laptop. I deleted the offending .jpgs and removed the NAS from the network. I upgraded to a WHS in January and a new Lenovo laptop runnin Vista Home Premium. I recently found my jpg's distored the same way on the Lenovo. I am wondering if I have some kind of virus, some of my .pdf's are also distorted (the first page loads, then crashes the reader).

Hi everybody, been watching and liking the show for a while now. Theres just one thing that bugs me... and alot too.

The focus is off in 2 thirds of the show!!!! Except when it's a wide shot, but that's probably just because theres a bigger focus area when in wide.

It's not that hard to do! Simply zoom in on the person/persons eyes before taping, adjust the focus. And you're done! Theres nothing more to it!

The bricks are minor. I work in a public access studio and it's better than the brick painted curtain that somebody uses here. The format change is my main point. By the way, nice job with the hosting!

The "Quicktime" feeds should be renamed H.264, because Zune Player (the software player) plays h.264 just fine...plus it implies quicktime is required. It confused me for a while, I was getting WMV, while I rather much prefer h.264.

I respectfully disagree about the bricks, but I would love to get out of the studio once in a while!

i agree the set is fine. And realistically in the scheme of things it needs to be interesting without being exciting or distracting, which it seems to do quite well. So quit ya bitching! :p

I respectfully disagree about the bricks,

I think an original Banksy on the brick wall would spruce it up nicely.

Or, maybe a contest to have your forum name tagged up on the wall.

imo (in my opinion) you guys should really cut out the viewer questions. You've got all week and the entire internet to come up with 5 minutes of material and you have to answer the most obscure overly verbose and complicated questions you can find. Talk about a viewer snooze. Does anyone produce the show? I totally zone out when the viewer questions come on... which seems to be 1/2 the show... and that interview with the camera mom was way too long... it reminded me of those "JEFF SEGMENTS" on Command-N.

I've been a huge fan since Screen Savers. I love Patrick and it's fantastic you guys got Bearonica Velmont on the show. She's great! I love her charisma (so quit givin' her crap, Pat). She's going to take the show to the next level. Pat is great but loosen up a little. John Dvorak does a much better curmudgeon on CrankyGeeks. Pat you're not an old man so if Veronica starts dancing, dance along... it's going to be okay. Loosen up. You're the best IPTV host out there. The world is yours and people will watch if you get away from those overlong viewer questions. The entire internet is filled with forums of idiots weird questions... why not find better content then lame viewer questions? Cut the entire viewer bull-shirt. I don't want to work for you. I want to watch the show. I don't want to make content for you.

There's an entire internet full of great information and potential stories and how-tos... why do you bog the show down with those "way too long" viewer questions? At least edit them down to two sentences. I'm falling asleep.

I fell asleep reading this.........

Here is a suggestion. Fix the audio. I couldnt believe how often I had my mouse on the audio control to constantly be turning it up and down to keep the audio level the same. Especially when Jessica screamed, it woke up everyone in the house.

You are so right, the intro very fucking loud, and when they talk about the sponsors.
I have to be ready to turn it down and is not just Tekzilla, I think is every show.
COME ON GUYS !!!

Didn't David Randolf teach you guys how to edit the right way?

Hey guys i like your show very much. I have a show suggestion as I need help putting together a myth box. I am not worried about the hardware. It is the software and the setting all the right settings for my hardware. If you can put some thing together that would be great. I know systm have done this before but the software is a little outdated, so I am looking for a updated walkthrough.
Thanks Wayne.

An idea I have, why not have an episode dedicated to Mac software alternatives? I know there's a post somewhere on the board, but why not discuss what ones you like and suggest people check out? I'm buying a Mac Mini this summer, and would like an idea of what's out there.

I know it's probably too much to ask (due to issues with legal and shipping) but could you allow non-US viewers into contests (like the Zune one in episode 32)?

Because now the give-away part is just another commercial to me (in the otherwise great show that has only become better with Veronica in it :-))

Great shownotes for episodes 29 and 31 -- but what happened to 30??

Veronica, thanks for keeping the pace moving in episode 29. That was great! I got plenty of info and less of the host-banter. In episode 30 Patrick's penchance for fluff-talk and silliness started to make it drag again. Keep it moving -- I like humor Patrick, but make your joke and move along. Don't respond to it too much Veronica, it only encourages him. :D

How about a show dedicated to a digital Mythbox, since we have until Feb. '09 to convert? I am currently working on a mixed analog/digital telly Mythbuntu box and would love any hints and tips that would come out of such a show.

I have an idea more reminicent of What Patrick and Dave used to do. I have a WiFi modem from a local cable company here in Canada that provide wireless broadband. I no longer use the service because it's not fast enough to watch Tekzilla(kidding). I was wondering if there are any hacks for this and would be willing to sacrifice my own unit (which Rogers made me buy) for the show. I gather they can get my email from my account info. Email me please and I'll send the unit to you to do something with.

I would like to see a series of "How To" segments on building a Myth TV box.

I currently own a Series 1 TiVo, but its slowly dying. I am looking to find a replacement to the system. Myth Tv seems to have the best options for all that I would like to do with the system, but I have several questions about what hardware, and experiences with other services. Some of the specific quesions I would like these segments to answer would be the following.

- How powerful of a system would I need for HD recording of multiple streams (ie: 3 tuner cards)? I would build my first myth box for standard deff, but would look for upgradeability to HD for later down the road.

- Do standard def tuner cards handle Digital Cable channels (like The Science Channel, History International and any thing in the 200's + on my cable box) I want to avoid having the Myth Box control a cable box to get all my channels.

- What are the best tuner cards to get?

- How well supported are the Home Theater Cases like the Antec Fusion Cases? (will all the built ins like IR, LCD, Volume Knob work with MythTv)

- How can I make the case as quite a possible?

- What IR would work the best with my Harmony 850 remote?

- Are there any built in solutions for doing Location Free playing via MythTv?

- Are there any bit-torrent clients for MythTv?

- How well does the auto removal of commercials work with MythTv?

- How/where Do I get tv listings for MythTv, some charge, others are free, but many disappear or are not accurate, which source should I use?

There is a data base in our school library called books 24x7 which has tons of tech-related FULL TEXT books available for reading online. There are programming guides, issue-based books, etc. A geek's bookshelf wet dream. You should look into it.
