So what are your current PC specs, and do you use your PC for any PC Gaming apps. If you have multiple rigs try and keep the specs to your 3 most used PCs.

for me, it's the main desktop:
3.73GhZ P4 EE
forgot what kind of motherboard
3GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7950 GX2
4-500GB HD's
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
dual monitors- 30" Apple HD cinema display, 24" Dell widescreen LCD
EDIT: i do occasionally play some HL2, FarCry, CS:S, Halo, etc. but it's rare...i like to have a power system to do more than just play games...i find having a nice system for that reason very stupid.
the crappy Dell laptop that goes everywhere with me:
Dell Inspiron 1000
2.2GhZ Celeron
512MB RAM (limited to that, i'd go to 1GB if i could)
Integrated SiS 64MB graphics
30GB HD
DVD/CDRW
14.1" screen
the MacBook Pro:
2.16GhZ Core Duo
1.5GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1600 graphics
120GB HD
DVD-Burner (superdrive)
17" screen
finally, the devices that i almost always have on me: Treo 650 (GSM), Treo 700p (CDMA), Motorola V551 and a HP iPaq hx2495

simply becasue 3 is overkill enough and i didn't want to max out my mobo's RAM limit...yet...in Windows even, i've really NEVER been using more than 1-1.5GB of RAM...even when doing hardcore video editing/rendering/encoding

I use it to encode and edit my podcasts and sometimes I use it for playing fear and other pc games. I shoot 2 of the podcasts on a sony f950 which is full 1080p digital and i need all the power to encode and make it available on itunes.

I would say that you don't... I would think you'd need power for audio or video, database work, image and polygon rendinering and finally Gaming... If you're not doing any of those I would think you wouldn't need a fast machine. I'm sure someone will think of another app that I've left out, but I think that's it.

Audio is handled fine. Video I encode and watch on my dvd player (yes, I kick the dome on my coutch.) might take all day but Im at work so whatever. Might upgrade to the new mini in the comming months. but I just dont see a need for the power.
20" iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 450GB HDD
- gaming (WoW, Civ4, Doom, SecondLife etc in OSX, HL2 & mods in WinXP)
- graphics (Gimp/Blender), playing music
Mac Mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo, 512MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 75GB HDD
- connected to the plasma TV, serves up video mostly
15" Powerbook G4 1.67GHz, 1GB DDR SDRAM, 93GB
- my main machine at both work and home
- writing (fiction, perl and sh), browsing, chatting
I've also got a slew of machines not in use: G4 quicksilver, a P4 gaming PC that's too gutted to run, an old iBook, and assorted mac and pc parts.
None of this accounts for machines at work, of course.
