Hey everyone
Maybe this isnt the appropriate place for a rant, but screw it. I was physced about entering the Blackbird wikia contest for that ****ing sexy, powerful computer, however the contest is only open to US citizens!!! If the shows your promoting these competitions on have an international audience, maybe design the promotions to appeal to a larger group of individuals who are within your target market...... Aussies love computers too!!
Edit: Also i wasnt having a go at the Diggnation guys, love your show and i realise you have no influence on it, i just thought Diggers would be quite proactive about their concerns and support the cause.
P.S. No we dont ride Kangaroos in Australia and not all of us talk like Crocadile Dundee!

I have to agree with you, .. this isn't the right place to rant ;). You might have more luck going to the wikia site itself.
Also I have to agree on the limitation for US citizens. European people, like myself, also appreciate the power of the Blackbird and even hunger for it with drooling-yaw-dropping faces. Hopefully they will have a shot with other (overseas) regions aswell!

I wouldn't think it's a power supply issue since most of the one I've seen have 110/220 VAC switches someplace. Maybe it's the cost of shipping?

Even the cost of shipping wouldnt be prohibitively high for a large company like HP. Oh yeh and most of the comps ive seen have a switch on the back so they can be used with both 120 and 240 volt power.

I am an Aussie. I entered :p
Competition is limited to US RESIDENTS (technically my current status is "Non Resident Alien" soon to be "Advanced Parole Non Resident Alien" I hope). They need to do this for tax reasons as much as anything else. Sucks, but blame the US government that puts these restriction on competitions (they want their taxes) rather than folks giving the stuff away.
And for the record - I have seen UK competitions that are open only to UK residents or member of the EU.
... and my accent is somewhere between Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe.

Just guessing, but maybe it can't be shipped outside the USA due to HomeLand Security restrictions?
I went over to the HP site. On the Blackbird 002 page it says, "AVAILABLE ONLY IN NORTH AMERICA". Just below that it reads, "This is a high dollar value international transaction". So I'm guessing it's okay to ship to Canada.

I stopped reading right here. Never let them know that you're about to rant.

By the power i didn't aim for the power supply, only all the great Ghz, Gbytes and giga cooling. :)
I do not think the power supply itself would be the problem either.
What i really am hoping for is that they good guys at HP will also launch a give away in other regions with no restrictions to country (ow dear, Holland is so small).

I was in the QLD area a couple months ago and everyone I met did. :)Yep. Especially in QLD, once you get beyond the urban strip from the Sunshine Coast (too many tourists), past Brisbane and down to Surfers (more tourists) and out into the rest of the state, they DO sound like Crocodile Dundee.
