It's our 100th episode and one of the exciting about doing a live a show is that anything can happen, including the audio running a bit hot. So please accept our apologies when you listen as the recording quality is not what we would have liked. But the show was a lot of fun and we hope that comes through.

We discuss Conor's Pick of the Week for September 28, 2007:

This was a great show guys. Thanks for hosting all of us. We had a great time. I'm releasing a special edition of my own podcast tonight based on something in this excellent 100th episodes. I wish you many more.

Can't wait to hear the reaction to this one. It was a great time and I was proud to be a part of it.

Unbeknownst to the hosts, I had an audio recorder in my pocket for the after party with a mic running up to the carnation in my lapel. Stay tuned for Fuzzy Typewriter later tonight to find out what happened to the drifter Conor picked up on the highway the other night.

I've got to say, for a live recording, quality didn't really suffer. There were a few times when the room got loud, where you could tell, but other than that (which is basically unavoidable in a group setting) I thought it was great, I was al ittle worried when I read Josh's comment. Aside from the audio, I loved how interactive everything seemed, and the fun environment you guys always bring to this. I look forward to many more. Quality podcasting at it's best.

I edited the podcast and I totally agree with you - unfortunately what got released was the best we could do - please accept my personal apology and know that we figured out what the issue was and the next live show (hopefully) should go without a hitch...

Great job guys. Congrats
Thanks for reading my question, I was totally bummed I couldn't get down there. This was the conversation that prevented me.

Me- "I'm totally psyched, I'm heading down to NY to see the iFanboys in action."
Girlfriend- "When is this?"
Me- " The 28th why?"
GF- " You already agreed to pick me up at Logan airport that night"
Me- " I did? Are you sure?"
GF- "Yes I'm sure I'm coming home from France!"
Me- "Oh...Oh crap...... Did you pick up those Tin-Tin books I asked for?"

Really? That would have been a pretty cool keepsake. Yeah. If I remember correctly she bought them from a used bookstore while in Spain. A couple of them were the digest sized books and few were the magazine-style books. Some were in Spanish.

Sadly, lost to the ether when my mom moved out of our old house.

So, iFanboy. I have a story to tell. Last year my grandpa was inducted into the auctioneers hall of fame, after an extremely lengthy career. At the end of this ceremony they held, of all things, an auction. An array of useless things were sold, but the open bar and giddy atmosphere kept people bidding. One item up for grabs was $50 worth of advertising in the Fort Qu'Appele newspaper. My mother, my aunt, and I, bid recklessly against eachother, until eventually giving up at around $100. I won. I have never before heard of or read this paper, no have I heard of or been to the town it is named for. What was I to do with this space? Well, recently I found out.

What did I do you ask? If you pick up a copy of the Fort Quappele news in the next few weeks you will see an ad reading "Congratulations to Ron, Josh, and Conor on 100 Fantastic Episodes of iFanboy". Seriously guys. Congrats. Hopefully they send me a complimentary copy (It's from a different province all together).

Edit: The thread din't get updated on the front, guh, I'm really hating forum problems. Hopefully this gets noticed anyways.

That's awesome, man. Very cool.

If anybody's wondering, I used my certificate to buy a Snoopy wristband and the first volumes of Alan Moore's Top Ten and Tom Strong. I wandered the aisles desperately trying to remember what books I've been looking to get. Then I saw these two and realized both Josh and Tom Katers had recommended them recently.

I told Josh what I was buying, and he replied "He usually hates all that I love."

I will never live Goodfellas down. I almost always agree with Josh on the show.

Tom Strong is very pulp and not at all too serious about itself. I think you would enjoy that.

I'm just jealous of his enthusiasm. It was just kind of funny how Conor LOVED the new JLA and Teen Titans and you and Ron were like "meh." Conor is REALLY loving the DCU right now. I only wish I could muster up that much enthusiasm for anything the Big Two were putting out in terms of superhero comics. I thought JLA and Teen Titans were "meh" as well. I need to rediscover my joy!

I can certainly relate to that. I wish I could get excited more. I have found that going back and re-reading something you loved often reminds you how much fun it used to be. Especially if you don't remember much of the details. It's almost like reading it again for the first time.

The last time I was pleasantly surprised by a comic was when I read The Umbrella Academy. I think you'd like that, Josh. It seems much more up your alley than Ron's.

One of the problems with waiting for the trade is that you lose that week-to-week excitement and then you start thinking you can live without comics! I've got Scalped, Criminal, American Virgin, Walking Dead, and a Fables trade waiting for me to read so I should have no trouble getting back into the flow.

I really wish JLA and X-Men were doing something more exciting with their books right now because those two are ones that have the potential to get me going again. I really enjoyed the Jemas era of Marvel because they were really trying new things, even though, more often than not, it didn't work. Now, Marvel is so event-driven that I find their books impenetrable, except for Cap, Daredevil, and Astonishing. I will be getting Iron Fist in trade, too. I think DC is better book-for-book, but they cross-over way too much for my tastes too.

I'm such a whiner!

That happened to me with fight scenes, they wee boring me so I re-read some of the best fights in DKR and I found myself enjoying them a lot once more

Solution to everyones problems? Drop shit. I made an online pull list the other day and realized the big two were almsot completely missing with an exception of a few minis, Detective Comics, and Jonah Hex. I didn't realize how boring everything had gotten lately. So many bigs have lost their flare in favor of trying to tie every book together. Events are just non-stop.

I think I probably have 5 titles on my pull list. This frees up more money for trades, but when you're not buying comics every week, you tend to lose enthusiasm. It's a risky gambit!

I hardly remember posting that. I think I meant to say "Whenever Conor's spoken highly of those DC books, they're good ones." I get defensive about this topic because I get the sense that DC is looked at as a fetishist label, a collection of nostalgia heavy books with tired old icons. Somehow lesser than Marvel overall because it is not so concerned with realism. No one complains about a POW being a Marvel book unless a.) it's an X title, or b.) it's just not the book that they would choose. But never simply because it's a Marvel book. And I think that people do complain sometimes when the pick has a DC logo. Sometimes.

Hmm I wonder about that, if that's so it's too bad.

It seems week after week I'm picking up significantly more DC books than Marvel, whether that's just shipping delays or quality issues, I don't know.

I should probably try Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk though, the new She-Hulk team intrigues. I don't know why I'm all of a sudden interested in Ms. Marvel, but Frank Cho might have something to do with it.

In having conversations around the shoppe there does seem to be the preception that DC is the line for nostalgic comic fans. Which I obviously take issue with being somewhat against nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia.

I love the iconic, timeless and the mythic elements of the DCU. I don't have any particular attachement to some illusionary golden era of comics as that aforementioned line of thinking posits.
