If my kid looked like that I would dress him as a toilet also.

It looks like a joke, something for people to send around to get traffic on the site.

I thought you meant people that actually hated their children. So I did a google image search of "child abuse". It's sad, but this picture is just HILARIOUS!

Much of that was how my father treated me as a kid and somethings much worse that are not even listed.

It's funny because it illustrates how idiotic people must be not to know that these are abusive situations.
I recently read about some guy who's 50 who's overseeing his mother's trust fund and his stewardship of the fund was taken away. He didn't understand why.... his mother was eating cereal for lunch and dinner, sleeping on a couch in a tattered house coat that's unwashed. the trustfund is in the neighbourhood of 80 million dollars.... the guy didn't think anything was wrong with what he was doing. Ridiculous!

...but yours also, as a father I guess I'm of the mind that I need to laugh at this crap for fear of getting mad. We live in a horrible horrible world.

I thought my little picture was funny because it looks like it was drawn by a spacially challenged autistic child. Man, I've opened up a whole can of worms...

wow. some people do hate their children... that poster is totally lame in the fact that people wouldnt automatically know that those things are abuse... but no one mentions keeping knowledge of someone being abused a secret, as abuse... even more lame.

I have a daughter, and I can't understand why people would use this device.
Parents are so damn lazy to watch what their children are doing.

I think using that leash thing is more about laziness than anything else. Frankly, I don't see the problem with just holding your child's hand. The leash is a little gratuitous.

In any case, I did use that leash thing while I was canoing with my 15-month old daughter. You don't want to strap the child to the canoe, but yet you don't want the child climbing overboard. I connected the strap to her PFD so I could keep her from moving around in the boat too much. As it turns out, I really didn't need it. She got the idea pretty quickly that roaming around in a canoe was a bad idea. Not to mention, an infant PFD is restraining enough on its own.

I might... *might*... use this in a very crowded situation that you can't avoid surging crowds, like airports or carnivals or something... if I were really, really paranoid that someone might scoop up my child and run off with them. Maybe.

I can't see using this, say, at the park or going to the mall.

Although some of those poor women with six kids under the age of 7 probably see them as a godsend. How the hell do you go grocery shopping with a gaggle of sugar-hyper kids like that? The mind reels...

at carnivals and large crowds, we did the "train" where one parent led, all kids in the middle, and one parent at the end. never failed us. and theres four kids....

I acutally had something like this for my daughter, but it was just a strap around her wrist. For the life of me, I can't remember why I had one, Alexis has always been well behaved...maybe it was on clearance or something.

Anyway, I tried it on and went to her grandparents house where she immediately started acting like her wrist was hurting. She went up to grandfather all sad faced, pointed at it. Next thing I know it was in the garbage.

That little brother of yours was originally from a nice Nebraska Family visiting Orange County for the first time.

If you need a leash to keep track of your children in public, perhaps you've had a few too many children. Seems simple enough. It's a bit too "after the fact" to use it as a warning sign, no? heh. The only times I've ever seen this "in the wild" has been single child... no professional dogwalker looking gaggles of kids n' leashes.

Let go of your child's hand to grab a box off a top shelf and that's all it takes. Or sometimes someone will have a small child and a baby and keeping a hold of a hand at all times is a challenge with not wanting to risk dropping the baby. Granted, this is an exceptionally unattractive one, but better safe that sorry.

Same here, but when I read things like that poster, it doesn't make me feel sympathy. It just makes me hate those touchy feeling "school counselor" types and their romper-room posters and their "I'm okay - You're okay" crap all the more. And not just because it's ridiculous to put "not listening to a child" in the same category as "put cigars out in your eyeballs".

Damn! Seamus uses a screen shark! How do the forums feel on Jaws?

Do they still make/use JAWS? I remember back when I worked for Netscape Communications in the late 90s and we tried to get Netscape to work as well as we could with screen readers; specifically JAWS. It sucked. I hope that stuff has improved since.

As proven by the tens of thousands of unleashed children that are lost each year while mom is reaching for the shelf with the Slo-Gin . . .
Slo-Gin is always on the bottom shelf... with all of the other alcoholic beverages that no on over the age of 21 drinks
