Has anybody played this game? Unexploded Cow is a strategy card game that is super easy to learn. I played it for the first time last night and it was the most fun I have had in a long time.

"Europe. Summer. 1997.
"You and your friends have discovered two problems with a common solution: Mad Cows in England and Unexploded Bombs in France.
"You've decided to bring these two powderkegs together just to see what happens. And you wouldn't say "no" to a little money on the side.
"So round up your herd, march them through France, and set them loose behind the Cordon Rouge. If you're lucky you'll come home rich before Greenpeace gets hold of you."
Definitely check this game out if you haven't!
Anybody know of any other fun little underground games that are worth checking out?

This company Cheapass Games makes tons of games like Unexploded Cow... They leave out all the extras... like dice and so forth to make it cheaper... they figure most people have these items already... anyway... they make a few others.. Kill Dr Lucky is really good.. so it Give me the Brain and Witch Trial ... and I heard that Secret Tijiana Deathmatch is also really fun. I have dozens of games like this at home... they are too fun to resist!

I haven't heard of these games, but me and a small group of friends used to play TONS of random ass games few people have heard of. The one we played the most was Puerto Rico, a board game where you basically grow plantations and get slaves (although they call the slaves "workers" or something else).
Also, we played more well-known games, like Scene-It, Apples to Apples, and the occasional Trivia Pursuit.
But yeah, I've seen tons of random board games at my comic shop, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

My friends and I enjoy playing Munchkin. It's a funny twist on D&D type games. It's a card game, but you don't have to buy cards all the time like Magic, all the cards you need all come in the one box. Basically, it's based around the idea that you and your buddies are adventurers going into a dungeon, and while you're in there, you encounter monsters and treasure and as you kill them you "level up". The only problem is, the first person to level 10 wins. So you end up backstabbing and helping the monsters beat down your friends so you can steal their treasure and such! It's really really fun. There are some example cards on the site if you want to see some.

There are lots of other variations to the game, as you can see on the site, but I've only ever played the original. Anyone else play?

This doesn't sounds like real problem. It really harkens back to the golden age of light Role-playing board/card games like Paranoia, Illuminati, and Diplomacy.

I've played and own all the Munchkins... there is a kung fu munchkin (Munchkin Fu), Superheros (Super Munchkin) , and Goth Muchkin (Munchkin Bites) and so forth.... they made them for each of the role playing genres out there. Steve Jackson Games is a great source for fun and wacky games... he also did a very popular series of Games called O.G.R.E. and one called Car Wars.... (exactly what it sounds like)... and of course the big set of games from Steve Jackson are called Chez Geek. The whole point of chex geek is to get the largest amount of "slacker points" You get these through a variety of ways, not the least of which is playing video games, reading comics, and having "nookie". All players are roomates in the same house and sach player starts out with a random job (all geek related)... the whole point is to get as comfortable as possible... working the least as you can... They made a lot of versions of this game as well.... but it's really fun. :)
I also recommend a game called Lunch Money from Atlas games... you are a couple of school girls beating eachother up for your ... lunch money ... and a game called Gloom. Gloom is a game where each of the players owns a "family" and the point of the game is to make the individuals in your family as miserable as possible and then kill them to get the "gloomiest" family out there... the opponent can do things to brighten the lives of the family members and save thier lives... Both of those games are produced buy a company called Atlas Games.
Oops... I just wrote a lot.... There are a ton more games ... but I should probably stop here :)

Munchkin sounds awesome. I'm gonna ask my roommates if they'd play before I decide to order it, though.

Has anyone heard of a game using blank index cards where people draw/write in their own point system?
I'll look for a link.

wow, i wake up and a thread i created a month ago resurfaces with a ton of new comments.
i have spent the last couple weeks learning some old school card games that aren't very popular... Canasta and Cribbage. i have gotten very good at both. the point systems are hard to teach to others, but my girlfriend likes them both and we play a few games of each every weekend. if you like card games and you are a good strategist then give them a try.

I'm more into board games than card games, but I love Munchkin. Munchkin is how I got around the fact that nobody wanted to play D&D with me.
I was so into the idea of Dungeons and Dragons, and roleplaying in general, and I had all the handbooks and some GURPs books as well. I read them all and I loved coming up with characters and adventures, but the only thing I didn't have were people who were nerdy enough to play with.
But my sister, who is by no means a geek, did enjoy playing Settlers of Catan and Kahuna with me (mostly because it turns out I suck at thee games, so she can easily beat me). So I picked up Munchkin after I read about it being like D&D with cards (I don't know if that is entirely true), and we played it so much one summer that we lost interest after a while. It was super fun, but was just too easy. So I tried to get her to play proper D&D, and pretty soon we went back to playing Munchkin. Now I'm going to get some of the other Munchkin games for us.

They usually sell the counters and dice, only you have to buy them separately. Or buy them from a gaming sotre or website at the same time as the games. It is better in the longterm, because you can use the same counters for all the games, or buying them separately once, them a lot of cheaper games, is cool.

Because we can't all afford Wiis or PS3s, so we take it back, old school.

Yeah.... That and board games and card games are one of the things that I know something about. I haven't played very much canasta but I've been playing cribbage since I could count... My family loves that game.... :) I love Settlers of Catan and that entire line as well. There is also a game called Formula De that is really fun that invovles racing cars and dice... simple yet so many possiblilities!

I can't wait for the Cthulhu themed Munchkin game to come out! Right now I just have the set of original munchkin and the expansions for it. I'm kinda interested in the space version with aliens and such.
