This came up on my iPod tonight, and it got me to thinking...

Has there ever been a piece of music composed for a character that is as completely demonstrative of everything that makes that character who they are, as this piece of music is for Superman? This composition, to me, sums up everything that Superman is in a way that words never can. In this marriage of character and song, perfect artistic harmony exists between the point of inspiration and the result of execution, and I can think of no other hero that has been graced with such a pitch-perfect musical theme.

(Other characters in different mediums, perhaps, have had this honor; Don Quixote de la Mancha and "The Impossible Dream (The Quest)" come to mind.)

i really liked the Batman theme.

Marvel on the other hand has some pretty shitty superhero theme songs, both the xmen and spider-man themes have been less than memorable (the xmen being the better of the two)

That's the second one that comes to mind for me. Wait... movie or Animated Series? Because both are actually pretty good.

Superman's theme is probably the best, but I'd say that Indiana Jones' theme is a close second.

A little different than what we're talking about, but I love Superman by The Crash Test Dummies. I thought it was really good, and true to the character.

Bravo on that. Darth Vader and the Imperial March? Are all the best themes John Williams? Are they all marches?
