View Full Version : Are the TRS guys gay?

No, they're not and seriously, why does it matter if they are or not?
Right, now that's out of the way, the rest of the forum might be interested by some of the comments on the Digg entry for last week's episode that was the motivation for my comment above.

Well Alex and Dan are confirmed to have a girl friend and Jeff always talks about wanting to have one, so it seems to me that the only people that would think they are gay would be people that do not watch the show (read ignorant people :)).

Digg users continue to get more and more stupid. They are beginning to have more and more in common with youtube commenters *shudder*
That being said, You are completely right Wes, they aren't gay, but who cares if they are?

I honestly don't see the gay thing. They act like normal dudes to me. What, just because they can express how a movie makes them FEEL makes them gay? I really think that a person that thinks this has some personal issues with homosexuality that they need to work out for themselves.
Oh and yeah....why would we care if they were?
And I agree about the digg comments seeming more and more like youtubers.

I think seeing public displays of affection between heterosexual men is quite refreshing. Imagine the homo-phobic knee jerk reaction that other podcasts hosts could have issued. Indeed, this display would have been even better if there wasn't a even a thread on the forums about it. But, in this world, such a thing is thread worthy.

Man I'm glad I come hear to fill time between calls instead of digg. That's just some stupid stuff. Like everyone else above said who cares if they are (although we know they aren't) but what does that have to do with the price of eggs in china?
even if the guys are named Gary and the "r" is silent I would still watch the show it would just say it was "Fabulous" instead of totally rad.

As you say, your statement is pretty f*ed up.
Their sexuality has absolutely no bearing on any aspect of the podcast. Saying that you would stop watching a podcast, that you otherwise enjoyed, on that basis alone is frighteningly closed-minded.

They all have, or have had beautiful girlfriends that anyone would be lucky to have. The ppl that are confused about this, and couldn't tell, were confused about hetero and homosexuality in the first place. I wonder if they'd be this concerned and accusing if it were Sarah Lane, Jessica Corbin and Morgan Webb. .. .. kinda wish I hadn't thought of that now.
NOT THAT IT MATTERS

Wow..... affectionate guy friends. Must be gay friends!! Seriously, it all goes back to he who protests too much...... All I have to say is that I feel fortunate to have great close friends that I can hug and show genuine companionship. I think everyone would be in happier place if they'd drop the uber Machoism and allow themselves to be openly expressive of their emotions.
The TRS guys are fortunate to have as close a relationship as they do.
edit *changed masochism to machoism, quite different.....

I know this is a stupid subject, I overwhelmingly dissaprove of the homophobia evident in the those Digg posts, I'm bi, and many of my friends and exes are gay/bi as well. That all being said I have tried to introduce TRS to a few people (4 in total) that I know enjoy shows in this genre but hadn't even heard of Rev3 before. All four of them wound up asking me if the hosts were gay (one of them, a gay male, within minutes of the show starting). All were just curious to know which led me to finding this old post just to see if anyone else had picked up that vibe. Just wanted to throw in my two cents about some non-Diggtrolls who's gaydars were activated by the guys. FWIW my friend Jason is now in love with Dan and watches the show every week. Still he refuses to believe that Jeff is not at least bi.
Does it matter in the least if any of them are gay/bi, not to me at all. But some folks are just innocently curious.

The best quote in that entire Digg comment thread is this oneTime to grow up kids. Not trying to act like a tough guy at all times does not equal gay. You have to wonder why some people have to try so hard to "prove" they aren't gay. Those of us who know we aren't gay simply don't have sex with dudes; all the affectations, ridiculous behavior, and calling "gay" at everything that doesn't conform to these things really does less for you than you may think. Get a fucking clue douche bags.
Can I lock this thread now?

The people who say the guys definitely aren't gay are as ridiculous as the ones who think they are. Point is, what's ridiculous is the speculation at all, whether you think one thing about it or another.
Like so many have said before me: It's not really important, is it?

Well, I think it is safe to assume that 3 of the guys are straight. 2 speak regularly of their long term girlfriends and the other made a plea for single girls to contact him early in the TRS life span. Only one has not made any references on the podcast.
Where it might be seen as important would be by straight women, gay men or bi individuals who think they are hot. And even then, since it would be a crush/fantasy situation, that isn't even that important.
Where I do think it is important is simply that you really don't see the warmth they have for each other on TV without the characters being gay. You do have some exceptions, such as on Scrubs, but over all, male friends always seem to have a distance or competition between them, even when related. So the fact that people ask, and more importantly the answer being no, does do some good. The warmth is the reason why I love that Anakin loves the show. I want him to see healthy, non-competitive male relationships that don't have the people as gay, weak or losers. I wouldn't care if they were gay, but it does help in the role model aspect. Frankly, he has plenty of warm, gay role models in the family and extended family, but straight males being warm towards each other and not related, that is a bit more rare.
But I also live in the Mid West, so that could be part of the problem.

The more I think about it, the more I understand that the Digg comment was not at all referencing the sexual preference of the guys. But, exactly how freely they express their affection for each other.
That is, I doubt the commenter even realized the sexual inference theat comment contained. This is typical of the juvenile internet commenter that often uses terms like "gay" or "retarded" as pejorative.
In this case, the commenter was using the term "gay" to comment on how the guys don't conform to the Puritan ideal that a man must act with stoicism. nevertheless, the comment lacks the eloquence to make is point in more precise manner.

Are they left handed? Red headed but dye or shave? Prefer brunettes to blondes? Eat their dessert with the salad fork? Brush their bottom teeth first? Or their top teeth? Do they pull their pants on left leg first or right? Pick their nose in the car with their index finger or their pinky? What else you need to know?

I would say yes. My best friend is my office-mate from grad school who is a woman. You can be attracted to someone sexually and not have a sexual relationship for all sorts of availability issues. The little-guy in your pants has no memory and no conscience and shouldn't be consulted in long-term friendship matters.
