So. A while back the mods said they were thinking about lifting the filtering? Will we get to write /read the same words that the Rev3 show hosts say out loud and uncensored on the shows?

Haha, valid point indeed.

It looks like the filter is staying for the time being. 95% (empirical analysis - number complete pulled out my ***) of post don't contain profanity, so it only really affects the 5% of posts that contain ****, *****, or *** ... and we all know what you mean without it having to be spelt out.

But what's the point?
I mean, I hardly use profanity, especially online... you probably won't find a single post of mine with a cuss word in it on these boards to this point. But why have a filter on these boards? I realize that it's generally to protect the "image" of the board, especially in the case of having young viewers, potential sponsors, etc etc, but that can't be the case. If someone is a fan of really any of the shows that Revision 3 puts out, then they obviously don't mind, or can ignore, all the profanity.
Again, I'm not arguing against it, I'd just like to understand the reasoning behind it.

So, if you don't swear, why does it bother you so much?
I don't care if its on or off, but the decision to leave it turned on (dfault settings) was made when the servers were being set up by the admins. Changing this setting isn't a particularly high priority at the moment.
Seeing **** (asterisks) in posts doesn't bother me. If I do see them, I know exactly what the intent was - and it has the same effect as seeing the text spelt out.
BTW - the *** in my previous post were put in by me, and not the filter.

I agree with you, but where would you draw the line when it came to overly vulgar profanity, and it would be a mission to enforce it.

Yeah right, that's what they all say potty-mouth! :p

I don't have to be a male sex offender to consider the idea of state-ordered castrastion repugnant. Why can't a non-swearer have an opinion about profanity filters?
Frankly, I'm a swearing type, but I couldn't give a shit whether you have the filter on or not. However, you should realize that it makes you look slightly hypocritical to bleep your forums and go full-tilt on your shows.
Not to mention parents who might think the content on the shows is okay for little Johnny if it's edited/sanitized here.
Just a thought.

Well, of course there will always be rules and guidelines. Just like posting can be considered excessive(spamming), so can excessive amounts of profainity. Just because something is allowed doesn't mean users have the right to take it to an extreme.

Exactly. Just because I don't swear doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on the matter. And also, I said I wasn't arguing it... I just wanted to understand the reasoning. If asking for an explanation is out of line because the matter doesn't directly effect me, then so be it.
And if the argument is, we all know what you mean when you type ****(in context), then what possible point is there in censoring it? What point is there to me spelling out s-e-x, when we all would know what I'm talking about anyway? The idea seems a bit redudant... all it does is make it stick out like a sore thumb.

that's a great, simple and clear point. Case closed.
