View Full Version : Why doesn't "Supernatural" get the attention from geeks like "Heroes" or "Lost"

In my opinion Supernatural in the best show on TV right now "except The Shield of course". I think it is better then Heroes and Lost. It seems like a show geeks would love but I never see the fanfare that those other shows get. If you haven't seen Supernatural it is pretty much a cross between The X files and Buffy. It has its monster of the week and a great over all story arc. Is Supernatural problem bad publicity and people just never watched it or is it something else?

Well, it had a few strikes against it starting out. For one thing, it's on the WB (or whatever they are calling the WB now. CW?) so it's immediately not as readily available as lost or heroes. The second strike against it, is that it stars the guy noone liked from smallville (Lana's boyfriend for about a minute) and the guy from a show that most "Geeks" used to loathe (Gilmore Girls).

From what I've seen, it's certainly better than something like Moonlight (which is horrible, and in the same genre) but it doesn't have the creation budget, or the marketing budget, to ever have a chance against shows such as Heroes or Lost. If it weren't for CSI and The Office in the same general timeslot (I watch one and Tivo the other, which I then watch immediately after) I'd probably atleast give it a chance.

I like Supernatural. I have the first season on DVD but just haven't got around to watching them all yet. It struck me as a Rock and Roll X-Files. That's certainly a good thing.

I wouldn't call it the best show on TV, but it's certainly up there with the best (I would say it's better than either Heroes or Lost). It's funny, action-y, drama-y, and the music is usually great. The two main actors are really excellent, so don't let anything else you've seen them in stop you from enjoying a great show. Anybody who likes Buffy or X Files should be watching this show. In Canada, it seems to be airing on Space on Tuesdays. It does have an ongoing story though, so it's worth starting at the beginning.

Alex has mentioned liking this show at least twice on Diggnation before.

Supernatural is an awesome show and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I watched most of the first season and had to stop. I found myself not really caring for any of the character, and in general the show just didn't "stick". Each episode didn't leave me thinking "I need to watch the next", or "That was a really good episode". I got left with a feeling of "Meh." So, that's why I don't watch it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

What's wrong with Gilmore Girls?

Just wanted to say I love the show. I've been watching since the first episode.

I'd say the earlier comment "like a rock'n'roll X-Files" is pretty accurate. I like especially the pacing of the seasons. It's very comic book like how they mix some random encounters with an overall story arc, and very well done I think.

Plus the chemistry between the two stars is very good. They are funny and very believable as brothers.

So did you not watch The Matrix because Laurence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis? Actors don't write what they say so why would you not watch a show because a Actor was in something you didn't like? You must not watch anything because every actor has been in a bad role.

That point is mute. He was the shit as cowboy curtis. That IS the reason why I watched the matrix.

I'm completely uninterested in Supernatural. It's got ok ideas that aren't executed all that deftly.

I tried watching it when it came out, for some reason I just don't think I personally like horror shows. The occasional movie is fine but when it becomes a reoccurring thing I just generally don't want to watch it. The CW is kind of lame now too in my opinion.

Damn, there's a lot of hate and apathy for Supernatural.

Put me in the apathy column.

I never started watching it because the commercials all seemed more like Dawson's Creek meets Charmed than X-Files meets Buffy. Sometimes I am content with my snap judgments. heh

Dawson's Creek meets Charmed would be far on the other side of the Scifi/Fantasy genre that Supernatural is. I guess the ads really sell the show wrong if that what you thought it was. If you have never seen the show it is about two brothers (who's mother was burned alive by a demon when they were young) hunt Demons, Vampires, Ghosts and pretty much any thing evil. Their goal in the first season is to hunt down and kill the yellow eye demon that killed their mother. And in a earlier post someone though the special effects would be bad but in my opinion they are just as good as any new Horror movie.

my guess is that guys don't want to admit to watching a show that is so obviously marketed towards girls age 12-24 with its hot, dirty half naked WB male stars... just a guess. I personally gave up on the show when they killed off Jefferey Dean Morgan... guy can't stay alive on a show, geez!!

Supernatural is my favorite show on TV right now. It's the show that made me come back to TV after I stopped watching a couple of years ago. It's the one show I have to watch every week.

You know, alot of shows on other networks are made by warner brothers and sold to the other network. Most of NBC's biggest hits, are WB shows.

What does the network matter? If a show is good, then it's good. Who cares what channel you have to set your TV to?

All right, All right! I'm open to the possibility that the CW might have one or two good shows. They're just buried under like 20 feet of crap like America' Next Top Model and the like.

That may be true, but I think it also goes for every other network. I had to watch Heroes every week last season, but I hate Deal or No Deal, so I waited until it was over before I could even turn my channel to NBC.

I originally ignored the show. I saw the previews and figured it was just another typical CW show marketed at teenage girls. Then During season 2 I watched an episode due to the complete lack of anything better to do that night, and was amazed (and pissed that I had been missing such a cool show). So I went back and watched all the season 1 eps and caught up with the show. It is now one of my favorites. I was a huge Buffy/Angel fan, and imo this is the closest thing on TV to those.

I love the fact you guys get stuff like Deal or No Deal.

We got that show first, and the only people who watch it are middle aged mothers whilst doing the laundry. I love that it got popular enough to go to the US. And we don't get hot chicks with signs, just a load of unemployed hopefuls with a box. XD

p.s. We only play for £250,000. You guys get £1,000,000. Lucky sods. Though with the exchange rate right now...
