what a great movie. I just got back from seeing it and I was really impressed by its light hearted fun, dark and heavy, deepness. To me its like pushing daisies/ big fish with the wall and the beatles music catalog all put in a blender. From the classic Lucy reference to the sexy sadie and jude and Hendrix references it just tied in so much from the 60-70's from that revolutionary time in american history that for me personally it really touched me. It really connects with today cause of what's going on in this time frame, its kinda like history repeating.
I think this film sadly will fly under the radar of most people cause, its got that pushing daisies kinda weirdness that it seems not be loved by most. But i think its great. If you liked the beatles, if you liked the 60's you will like this movie. Its a litte strange to some im sure, but its on my list to get on dvd.
I think the guys will like its, I'm sure jeff and dan will, alex might not, but if I'm betting I'm gonna say yes. I hope they review it.
So did anyone else see it?

I got to see it two Saturdays ago with some friends and we all agreed that it was a really well made film. We all liked the different take on Beatles songs and how it was visually beautiful. Though I will admit the Mr. Kite moment was a very trippy scene.

I really want to go, especially because I've never been exposed to the Beatles.

I don't think we're gonna have a chance to talk about it on the show but I LOVED this movie!
I was shocked at how much I loved this movie DESPITE it's uncomplicated underachieving story. The visuals and music were so powerful I was moved even though that main ingredient that is typically the most important thing was gone. Interesting.

I agree with you Dan in that it didn't really have a full developed story, but somehow it was still enjoyable. Hell my friends and I started to sing along to some of the songs when they came up. I guess Hey Jude has that effect over me and others.

Well i would ask you to consider that it might have been the point to be uncomplicated. I mean lets face it, all the stuff that went on, with the drugs and the new perspectives in human conciousness and just so much of it was like in battlefield earth where that human was put in the information machine. I walked away with the feeling that the point of much of the story was to sum up and quantify the main mythos of the center of that time. In that regard i think it did it quite well. I have to admit, there was a few moments that i went .. omg i never thought of it like that .. in this movie. Im to young for this stuff, but i definetly went through a hippy phase and have a appreciate for the beatles and others from that era and like i said, so much of it is reflected in the times of today.
anyway, i have to just say, this is the first musical, next to the original sweeny todd that i could sit through and the first musical i ever loved every single song and where the music was a treat and addition to the story, not a hinderence. Im not a fan of musicals, but this was good.
Anyway, let me know what you think about the quantification of the mythos of the era idea.

I was in the theatre with just 2 other couples and they were singing lol. Its the beatles man, if you dont like at least ONE beatles song your not human in my bok. Its just impossible with the arc of life experience they had.
I saw this film on Monday with a few friends and I found it pretty enjoyable. It was unlike any musical I had ever seen and the LSD trip with Bono was insane. The jumping pin head things are still kind of weirding me out. I agree that the plot was underdeveloped especially the JoJo (Hendrix) character.

I really want to see this movie... I bought the soundtrack and hate it (sorry, I'd just rather hear the Beatles sing their songs... with a couple tracks that I actually really loved) but I'm sure the visuals will make up for that. But yeah, everytime I've tried to listen to the soundtrack I give up and start listening to Love or Sgt. Pepper's...

Hmmm, I'm glad you guys are posting your opinions because I've been really curious what people would think of this film. Last weekend, my friend & I were on our way to see it when he casually mentioned it was a musical. This made me halt in my tracks and go back home to look it up and see if it was, indeed, a musical. We both really wanted to see it, but I absolutely hate musicals. There is no explanation for my aversion to musicals, it just is. So, from that aspect I'm still not sure I want to see this movie (at least not be trapped in a theater seeing it).

My friends are all huge theatre buffs, so I get taken to every single musical possible. And this is the first that I've been actually excited about, save perhaps the Producers.
I've probably seen at least fifteen musicals in theaters, and never before has an entire theatre of complete strangers broken out in song during the musical more than once. People sang along to I've Just Seen A Face, Girl, Strawberry Fields Forever, Hey Jude, Come Together, Revoluton, and of course All You Need Is Love. It was more than just a great movie, it was a great experience.
I honestly haven't felt that kind of unity in a theatre since Star Wars Episode III came out.

could you imagine being in a band that sparks something like this? the movie was fantastic, the message seems relevent today as it did when the movie takes place.

I'd love to hear what Paul and Ringo think about the outcome of this film. I'm sure they like it, since I've yet to hear either of them dislike anything they've allowed their music to be used in. (the LOVE album, iTunes store, etc)

for the record i hate musicals too. But loved this. Maybe its cause its the beatles and i enjoy the beatles and there was a time or 2 where i wish they didnt sing, but over all it was enjoyable and only minded the singing like 2 times for like 60 seconds before i got sucked back into the story.
