I pay for health insurance every month like you're practically forced to. I went to get an eye exam so I can see the damn monitor at work without getting a headache. I spent an hour sitting there while they jawed on the phone trying to find out how they could get paid from my insurance to cover me. After calling myraid phone numbers and talking to who knows how many health-uncare customer service boneheads, they told me "too bad."
At least they tried.
Now I'm on the phone with some knucklenuts who doesn't know what's going on either. All for an eye exam. Imagine if I was actually hurt. It feels like this system is set up with hoops to jump through.
Mother ****ing healthcare.

that sucks! you can always do it how I did it in college... I didn't have health care at all so I would just pretend that nothing was wrong :)

One upside is that if you have AAA membership, you can often get discounts at places like LensCrafters for the frames/prescription. You are SOL on the exam, but at least the glasses don't hurt the wallet quite so bad.

that really sucks... if your insurance isnt doing anything, you might want to try and get a nonglare monitor... its worked for a bunch of people i know who get migraines from staring at computer monitors all day.

I fixed the problem. I gouged my eyes out with a fountain pen. Now a work associate is helping me mail them to Blue Cross, and stuffing gauze in my eyes.

If you can dish the dough out, Lasik eye surgery is a mere $1500 per eye.

Atomusk and I were talking about eyesight 2 nights ago, and then a bunch of us were talking about u.s health care last night. Move to Canada, we'll take care of you.

Mexico will give you can eye exam for practically nothing. Granted your glasses may end up being the bottom of two tequila glass bottles fastened together.
