Lately I've been reading Cable & Deadpool,Ultimate X-men, and sporadically following WWH. I really like the concept of the Ultimate line because its perfect for people like me (15, relatively new to comics.) I'm interested in DC, but have no idea where to start. The only thing i could confidently say is that Batman Begins ruled. I've glanced at the Allstar line, and I think im interested. Any comments/warnings/sagelike advice?

All Star Batman & Robin is hella awful. Really, really bad. On the flip side of things, All-Star Superman is one of the best continuing series around.

Of the two, All Star Superman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Star_Superman) is the way to go.

You might look into Robin, Teen Titans, and the greatest series of all time...Justice Society of America.

The only hesitation I have in recommending Justice Society Of America to someone new to DC, is that the book has been pretty history dependent lately. What with the Lightning Saga and now Kingdom Come Superman showing up.

Still an excellent series (indeed one of the best) for anyone wanting to get into DC.

I think that first hardcover is a decent option. I had no idea who any of those people were, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

How about the upcoming Batman and the Outsiders?

That's what I was thinking of, Paper. The guy buys the first JSA trade, catches up and is left smack dab in the middle of the Lightning Saga and KC Superman a few issues after.

I still recommend JSA but one may need to visit the wiki when they run into that stretch.

edit: McDuffie's current run on JLA is great if you are at all familiar with the animated Justice League Unlimited cartoon. Even if you are not, McDuffie is re-establishing the JLA members in a really fun way.

Definitely Robin and Teen Titans - they are the most similar to Ultimate Spider-man and Ultimate X-Men in the DCU.

I'll third the Robin and Teen Titans recommendations as well.

You could probably jump onto those books right now and be reasonably fine.

JLA/JSA are great ones to just pick up. (I'm just like you and just started here and I'm loving them)

All Star Sup is amazing and great b/c its out of continuity so you can kind of jump on in.

Good luck!

Instead of All-Star Batman, trying Batman proper or Detective Comics (which is especially good right now). You might even like Batman Confidential.

The thing with All-Star Batman is that it is incredibly late - only 5 or so issues in like 2 1/2 years. Also, it makes Batman appear overly sadistic. It's one weird book, man. Not novice friendly.

It's sort of like the big brother team to the JLA.

Throw in all the people who got de aged or reincarnated (I'm lookin at you Hawkman)
And still 3 IS alot more than the JLA who are all perpetually 30

If you like Batman Begins then you owe it to0 yourself to pick up Batman: Year One

It's my favorite Batman story and Begins was based heavily on it

I always liked The Dark Knight Returns more, because of the way it just explodes at you. But both are must reads for the average Bat-fan

Yes.
Kidding, it wasn't that bad, but it definitly finds a place among "average Batman stories. Although I may be comparing it unfairly to Loeb's Long Halloween

Although I admit, when he works with Tim Sale he's a completly different writer

You didn't like Spider-man Blue? I LOVE that book... It's the only thing that makes me forget "Sins Past"... Which just NEEDS to get retconned...

The most important thing to understand which I don't think has been addressed here is that DC's All Star line is not comparable to Marvel's Ultimate line. Everyone thought it might be when it was first announced, but it's not. It's not more accessible rebooted characters, it's high profile creators getting to do whatever they want to the big DC characters. Think Marvel's Icon line but with superheroes.

Yeah, All-Star Superman is good but it is kinda dense and weird. It follows its own continuity, but Morrison moves quickly through a LOT of Superman history, juggling and mincing it up as he sees fit. It's a great book if you already have a decent knowledge of Superman stories. if not, you may get lost. Or you may just dig all the cool weirdness. But be forewarned.

All-Star Batman has really poor scripting imo, but then I don't think scripting is Miller's strong suit anyway. But if you want badass action and pretty sweet art, this isn't a bad title to look at. And now there are 7 issues in the bag, so it's not a bad time either.

I don't recommend the recent JLA #1-12. If you're interested in the JLA, I'd start with the last reboot of the series, by Morrison and Porter. You may be able to find it in trades.

Or if you like Ultimates, try Millar or Hitch's run on The Authority.

Good luck, and welcome!

Never to early to start. If I had been handed Preacher or Sandman earlier, I'd be a better man for it today... or slightly more ****ed in the head...

... nah, that's not really possible.

I was just looking at it from what I would have been ready for at 15. I can't speak for Sandman since I haven't read it, but I read Preacher in 30's and I'm still not old enough for parts of that series.

I agree with the Invincible recommend though, and want to toss in Runaways if it hasn't already come up.

I've only read a few trades, but wait, isn't there some graphic and inappropriate stuff? Didn't the Doll's House revolve around the serial killers convention? I think it had more graphic stuff than your usual mainstream comics.

And what is not graphic about a kid getting his nipple pierced with a burning fork? (Don't recall the exact issue, but the one where the school kid dies and meets Death) Eso! That gives me the willies just thinking about it! ;)

Nothing in comparison to the nature of Preacher, or, in my opinion, worse than the goings-on in a book even like Identity Crisis.
