I was just checking out episode 27 and I gotta say...man, Alex complained A LOT! Using the Six-Axis is not really that hard and it was good to see that Dan realized how it was actually kind of groundbreaking and that it actually brought you deeper into the experience. And oh yeah, Alex, you were fighting FLYING FOX and I just hope it wasn't the first time you fight him (you fight him twice in the game) cause' if you were stuck on that.....well.....lets' just say MUCH SKILL IS LACKED!

What is the definition of gamer? Alex has mentioned he likes and sometimes prefers PC gaming. It's definitely a very different gaming environment. Not only because of the types of games but because of the different control schemes.

I've never played any new console games so I cannot comment on the specific issue with the 6-axis control, but I suspect this has something to do with Alex's PC gaming experience.

Alex seems to be more of an RPG fan as well as a PC gamer...I remember on an episode Alex mentioning his Oblivion points/achievements were pretty impressive...But I have read a lot of reviews that the six axis controller isn't responsive...X-play being the first and foremost...But I look at it this way, the first FPS on the Wii was Red Steel and it was pretty rough, but I have heard good things with Metroid 3...I'm sure the same will be said about the PS3...I just think it's just a matter of time before a developer puts something out that uses the 6 axis controller really well, or it just might be up to Sony to put something out to show what it can really do...

Oh please, most people agree that the use of the sixaxis is tacked on for most games. It seems you have no idea what a "true" gamer is. Mostly because there's no such thing. I enjoy the use of the motion sensing in TP yet many people hate it and just refer to it as tack on waggle controls. Am I a "true" gamer? Just because you get what the devs were trying to do doesn't mean they did it right. Groundbreaking my ass. I love Dan as much as the next guy but you have issues and should stop with the sucking. Big words considering it's just one game in one stagnating genre.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have used the term "True Gamer". What I meant to say is "Good Critic". Those controls ARE easy and yet Alex had a hard time. I don't get it......

Sounds to me like someone is so desperate to have the money he spent on a PS3 validated that he overreacts the instant anyone says something negative about the only halfway decent, yet still not particularly great, game on the system.

That's a better term. Also, it doesn't matter if the controls are "easy". Moving the Wiimote in TP is easy yet people still hate it and wish they could just press a button.

Questioning someone's hardcore skillz and title as a gamer over this still reeks over over-reaction.

This is what I wanted to say but I couldn't find the words. I'm slightly surprised he didn't say Nintendo fanboy.

Trying to dismiss Alex's compliants because he's not a "true" gamer is pretty lame.

However, Alex is an admitted XBOX fanboy.

Did you read my change to the title. I never meant to say "True Gamer"..what I meant to say was "Bad Critic". AND, as you said it was coming from an XBox fanboy. I'm a GAMER....as in I enjoy playing games regardless of genre. Just so people know that I'm not a Sony fanboy even though it can seem that way becasue I often think their consoles are much superior in design and function.

I don't want to get into a console argument. I think we're pretty much on the same page. Although, I think your last point brings up some contentious issues.

The PS3 is certainly a more technically capable design. I suspect that we haven't seen its true potential exploited. Only now are we beginning to see games that are properly utilizing the hardware. I think that by Christmas 2008, we will being to see a real disparity between XBOX 360 and PS3 games as the developers start to max-out the potential of each platform.

That being said, "superiority" is in the eye of the beholder.

One could conclude that the Nintendo Wii has a"superior" design because has a better balance of innovation and affordability for family gamers.

One could say that the XBOX 360 has a "superior" function because it has a better online articulation.

I think the the PS3 was released about 18-months too early. Sony rushed the PS3 to market. The PS2 still had life to it. They sold more PS2s during Christmas of 2006 than XBOX 360s or Wiis. But, I think Sony figured that the hardware was solid and needed a sure-fire hit to reclaim a percieved loss of momentum to XBOX 360 and to help with the expected HD media format war. Afterall, Sony's marketing of new devices over the last few years has been a dismal failure. Neverthess, it would have been nice to let developers jam on the PS3 behind closed doors and come out with some startlingly great launch titles and to get this "home" thing up and running. Letting the HD-TV install base grow a little would also have been good for selling the console as a HD-media player.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not ready to take the plunge on a PS3. This Christmas, the family gets a Wii (if I can find one). Next Christmas... a PS3. By Christmas 2009, the XBOX 360 will be played out.

What makes Alex a bad critic? The fact that he can't get their control scheme and Dan could? That's quite an odd argument really, as said before here, Alex has deep roots into PC Gaming. There are also people out there besides him that aren't so great at using the Sixaxis or the Wii's motion control, for those people Alex's experience may be insightful into whether or not they will be able to use the non-standard control scheme as well as say Dan did. There are quite a few people who play games and enjoy them, even if they're not necessarily very good at them.

I don't see how this makes him a bad critic (or bad gamer as you previously said at one point).

Edit: Bah, Ninja'd by Mashercsf, I think each of the consoles have their own pro's and con's and the full potential has yet to be reached by any of them. I'll be most likely getting a Wii when Brawl pops up because of how many hours I spent in front of my TV with the previous 2 iterations of the series.

Your questioning him being a "true gamer" based on his comments about the sixaxis? Dude, the SixAxis in Heavenly Sword sucked. I agree totally that sixaxis is a tacked on gimmick made to try and compete with the Wii. Plus... I gotta agree with DarthEnder on this one.
