Grid Wars 2 - similar to Geometry Wars for pc/mac

There was a digg story (http://www.digg.com/playable_web_games/Grid_Wars_2_A_deeper_version_of_Geometry_Wars_for_ Windows_and_Mac) today about Grid Wars 2, which is a pc/mac game similar to Geometry Wars. Apparently it's old news, but I've never heard of it.

I don't know how it compares to Geometry Wars since I haven't played it, but Grid Wars is pretty fun. You can use keyboard, mouse, gamepad, or keyboard + mouse to control it.

I LOVE that game.

If you want to be able to set your own high scores instead of the 2 million it has when you start, open the highscore dat file in notepad and erase its contents.

It's pretty much an exact duplicate of geometry wars, except the latter has a wider 16:9 grid, doesn't have the floating powerups, and the baddies act a little different; Visualluy it's the same. I didn't really like this one though after putting so much time into geo wars, because with geo wars you can't ever out run your gun so as long as it's facing forward you can run straight into the middle of most shit and come out alive. This physics on gridwars just didn't seem as polished.

Yeah, that game's awesome. I don't have a 360, so I haven't played Geometry wars, but I'm definitely getting that whenever I do get a 360. Btw, anyone with a 360 can you tell me how the arcade works? Do you have to pay for individual games, or can you spend those points you gain by playing games? I know I could look this up, but this is easier.

Something cool about Grid Wars is that you can make it use your own custom graphics and sound effects. (they go in the "user" subdirectories inside "gfx" and "sounds", then you select them from the config menu)

It comes with some alternate graphics already (ex. millennium falcon ship). I replaced the pinwheel enemy graphic with a sausage one :)

Grid Wars has 34 different resolutions and many of them are widescreen. Just make sure you set both the Screen Size and Playfield Size to the same value. If the Playfield Size is bigger than the Screen Size the screen scrolls as you move.
