Didn't we have this topic in the other forum?
Ok, my username is a variation of a nickname from high school. I had this weird dream about Iggy Pop. Now mind you, I'm not an Iggy Pop fan, so I have no idea why I was dreaming about him.
The dream was Iggy, walking down my street in Detroit (well, he is from here). He comes up to me and asks if I would like some of his new cupcakes. They look like those Hostess cupcakes in a little plastic container and they were called, Iggy Pop's Cupcakes. I thought that was hilarious dream so I told it to my friends the next day while passing notes and signed my name Iggy Pop's Cupcake. The legend is born.
Of course, everytime I've registered a username Iggy is taken..so I added "star".
The avatar is my Yahoo representation. Glasses, 'fro, black woman.

i originally registered with my usual sn which is sickgrrl723. but after i never received a confirmation message from revision, i re-registered (i was tired of lurking) as slwmtnsilhouette (slow motion silhouette) which is a lyric from a song ("what it feels like" - lola ray). i got impatient when the new revision wouldnt log me in under that sn (it still wont), so i made this one (slowmtnsilhouette).

As far back as like, 3rd grade, I used to draw crappy comics about a cow who bombed McDonaldseses. Sometime later that band Green Jelly released the song "Obey the Cowgod." My friends started calling me and my comic Cowgod, but in typical rebellious youth fashion, I decided to be all edgy and changed the C to a K.
My avatar is a picture of me forcing a smile in front of the Eureka Dunes, in Eureka Valley, Death Valley National Park, California. It was hot as ****. The desert almost took me.
Mine is from a homebrew game that I played on the dreamcast called Beats of Rage and my avatar is from ,probably, the best superheroe comicbook in the universe.

when I was about 14 turning 15 my mom didn't appreciate how I was living my life. She knew I was an avid reader so she bought me a book she felt would shock me back to normal. She game me a copy of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road". I was completely amazed, at what a great work it was. It had the opposite effect than it was supposed to. I immediatly went out and picked up all the Beat Generation Books and materials I could lay my hands on. I then read Satori in Paris which was the book end to "On The Road" when he'd become this sadenend middle aged guy convinced he was going to suck all the marrow out of the life that he had. I've been in awe of him since I read that book, so I took the a name that applied to the feeling that I got, and that was part of the name of the second book that I'd read.
satori, literally translated, means kick in the eye, but it means epiphany, or more simply 'the awakening'. I don't capitalize it because I'm not so big headed as to think that I am the embodiment of an awakening... more that I experience these awakenings many times and I love being in the position of always learning.
my avatar is flat eric from mr. oize commercials... I only saw the videos long before I knew it was commercial... I just think it's a riot if you can find the rest of the videos... some muppet dancing to hard electronica... SWEET!

I got my username from a guy I worked with in NYC. I was wearing a shirt that said Paul Saves in blue and red, I just thought it was clever because back then I was like "If Jesus can do it, why can't I?". Anyway, when he saw it he asked who Paul was, and I said me, then he got all profound and said, "Damn man, You're right. You do save, we all do. The saviour isn't just in Jesus. It's in all of us! The Government's trying make us think we're just Social Security Numbers. Damn man, you're right the saviour is within all of us... Do you want a coffee?"
Well I think it's profound. After that, it just stuck to me.
I recently just changed my avatar, at first it was this picture my cousin took in the city of a tag that said "Don't Be Shy" and a heart. Now it's a picture of me laying on top of my best friend while she's reading DMZ.

I was invited by some friends to act as the "token user" for a software acceptance testing exercise in Unversity. My job was to be the complete n00b and ask the dumb questions to strengthen their app.
Since I was a software engineer, I had insight into what was happening in the apps, and the prof knew me, so in all docs for the subject I was referred to as TokenUser. It came out in the end who I was, but the name stuck.
Avatars? I like gargoyles. Technically I guess my avatar isn't a gargoyle, its a grotesque - since it is decorative, and not functional as a downspout.
My avatar changes from time to time - different colour, messages, etc., but all based around the same image. Since I am a mod, I added a sherrif's badge to the avatar.
On my gargoyle fascination - one of the best things I have done in a long time was climb to the top of Notre Dame Cathedral (Paris, not Indiana). Besides the view from the top out over Paris being magnificent, getting up close to the gargoyles (and grotesques) had me grinning like a school girl :D

r3v is short for r3v3r3nd which is the 1337 version of Reverend. I picked up the nick "Reverend" shortly after being a ordained as minister in the Universal Life Church online. (And yes, for those I've chatted with regarding the topic, I'm an atheist. I'm just all ironic and stuff.)
The avatar is me, as rendered by a cartoony avatar generator. I don't really have an eyepatch, but I didn't like the glasses I had to choose from... and it makes me more pirate-y. Arr, mother****er.

I've have recently been on this lucha libre fascination. For those of you that do not know, Lucha Libre is a phrase used in almost every Spanish country which could mean professional wrestling or freestyle wrestling. A Lucha Libre perfomer is known as a luchador, the plural of which is luchadores.
So my friend and I were coming up with luchador names, Los Ojos de Muerte is what I came up with. It means The Eyes of Death, i thought it was pretty catchy.

10-18-2006, 09:22 PM
Well on a long night of drinking my buddies were like we should do a movie because they just saw Napolean Dynamite and thought we could do movies no prob. Then it evolved to an internet show, even though none of them have an internet connection. And the premise was a hick version of punk'd there were many suggestions but muled stuck. And it use to be MuleD because caps on either end is cooler. The show never happened but "You've just been muled" sounds cool.
Avatar = Steer Skull because I'm a country boy through and through and I think that conveys that.

10-18-2006, 10:06 PM
About 7 years ago in high school, me and this kid were trying to respond to on some forum, tried about 10 names and they were all taken. So he comes up with Avcabob and says he uses it when he can't find anything else because no one ever thinks of it. I've used it for everything since then, and have never come across another avcabob anywhere on the internet. So if you see it anywhere else, it's probably me.
Avatar - another friend sent it to me to which I responded with Mr. Biggles!! (it's name). I have no idea where he got it from and I've only come across it maybe twice so far.

Back when everyone was starting to get on the internet, or getting AOL (which so isn't the same thing) I got really tired of people having names like "john2456" or "jane1984" or some variation of their name with a bunch of numbers. So I thought up a bunch of random words thrown together without having to use numbers. Satan's Magic Hat just seemed to phonetically sound a lot better than the other ones (like my AIM screen name, arctic cancer). Since then I've gotten harassed by people taking offense to it because they think I must be satanic or wiccan or some other bullshit. "I'm American. Our names don't mean shit."
And my avatar is a long story. When I joined the original forums, I had Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski as my avatar. Then everyone started changing their avatars and I figured I'd roll with the punches, and changed it to RoboCop. After that it was RoboCop till we switched over. Then I figured I should get a new avatar for a new forums. So I used Jonah Hex. No one knew who the **** that was (great comic, btw) so I changed it to The Badger. He's another comic book character no one's heard of, but back in the old forums I brought him up all the time.

I've been on the internet for close to 20 years now... I started with old text-based MUDs that are like D&D for chat rooms. Used Tilandra everywhere then... have no idea how I came up with that. It sounded exotic or something, I guess... and no one else had it.
Then I started online gaming... Unreal Tournament, etc. The name Tilandra didn't sound "tough" enough for those games, so I was trying to think of something that fit... die, die, die... okay, add a LA to the end to make it sound like a girl's name. I'm sure *some* people think it means I want L.A. to die, but that's not the case. Started pronouncing it "Dee-AY-luh" in my head, like it was spanish or something. :p Been using that for a few years now, but I still revert to Tilandra sometimes when five letters is too short. Pfffft.

Oh yeah - mulesing is gross, but the consequences of not doing it are even worse. PETA have a campaign that has been targetting the Australian wool/sheep industry - and hurting. I wish they would focus on a different subject ... they are clueless about how bad the fly strike problem is in sheep, and would be all over themselves saying "why can't you do something about that to stop the sheep from sufferering?" if the saw a sheep hit with fly strike - to which the farmers would reply ... "you stopped us from practicing mulesing ... what is your great suggestion now?". I am not anti cruelty to animals, but I am pro cruelty to stupid assholes.

superdeformed

When I was 17 or 18 I got an XBand modem for my SNES. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBAND) I needed a screen name so I grabbed an Anime Catalog. You remember, before you could buy this shit with ease online, you had to mail order forms and checks. Thankfully, XBand and later the internet lead me to tape trading.
Oh wait a minute, what was I typing about? Anyway, I needed a user name. So I flipped though an Anime catalog, an AnimEigo catalog to be exact, and spotted "Superdeformed Double Feature". I thought it was a cool name and used it for everything since then. However, if Superdeformed is taken I will use guyhatesyou (my name, hating you) or Ataru (Main character of the Anime Urusei Yatsura).
My current Avatar is my taking a swig of a small bottle of Mickey's Malt Liquor at a pizza place giving my friend the look of death. My first avatar on this forum was battlepods from Macross (aka Robotech) shooting dice, my second was Cobra commander, and my 3rd was Tanaka (a character based loosely after Studio Gianax founder Okada Toshio) from Otaku no Video.
PS: Soundwave was a Microcassette Recorder, Autobot Blaster was a boombox. Sheesh, I thought you people were geeks. :D

But do your thing, start that tattoo thread.
Before you know it I'll be the special person for not having any body art.

my friend in high school used to come up with stupid names like Poopy McSquirts and Whitey McBumlove, JimmyJones was one of them. I think its also the name of a serial killer but i just found that out recently. My av is me puking on the side of a highway after getting sh!tfaced in the car on our way to go whitewater rafting.
Now that I blew that mystery, nobody will like it anymore. Of course, who reads these threads in their entirety besides ME?I read the ones I care about in their entirety. I skip other threads.
At any rate, I didn't know where it came from but now I like it even more. :

Well my old name because I finally got around to changing it was delacommon with a pic of the band refused.
Delacommon was a combo of the rap group de la soul and the rapper common since I guess some time in middle school i guess that was all I listen to.
the new name which is A brighter side to the abyss is just a name that I came up with for my blog and it's kinda stuck.
The picture is from some photo I found online.
it's delacommon!!! hey!!! (anyway, my friends are starting a Refused cover band called "****ing Dead"...cause Refused is ****ing dead.)

Name is short form of Harvey Lopez which was the name of my band in high school. Don't ask where the name came from, it just sounded fun.
My avatar is the evil doctor from Bugs Bunny cartoons. I don't know why, but I always liked the character. I was going to switch to the evil monkey from Family Guy, but it looks like someone beat me to it.

My screen name is the first one I created in 198X when I had my first QuantumLink account. I've used it off and on over the years. My name's not Calvin. I'm not a slug. I did, at tht time, like Calvin and Hobbes, because it was new (geez, I liked Bloom County too). I also liked to draw pictures of slugs and write poems about slugs, etc. I had a difficult childhood.
The current avatar is the Tolstorp Runestone, the image of which I have tattooed on my right shoulder (in case the coroner calls any of you for an ID).

My uncle used to work for a place that specialized in making real estate programs. It was called Wyld Fyre or something like that and it was based out of northern California. I got to work there for two weeks and thought that was the coolest, so I started replacing all of my "i"s with "y"s.
And I was into star wars at the time so I thought, why not make a silly name based on all of this. Thus, darksydeavenger was born. Not exactly sure where the avenger part comes from though. Probably picked it because it sounded cool.
The avatar is me, in South Park.

I chose my screen name year in December when I began my quest to change my life (it's a great story but belongs in a different section). The numbers were added because I was in between the ages of 47 and 48 at the time. And Brian in my favorite cast member of Family Guy (hearing him sing an ode to the wonderfulness of booze is enough to make you reach for the bottle yourself).
I don't think this explains Darksy Deavenger at all. Isn't your last name Deavenger? Didn't the kids in school call you Darksy because of the circles under your eyes? The Darksy part is right. But the whole name is "Darksy De Avenger". Because he's, you know, de avenger. It's like his title or something.

My user name goes back to the early days of 8600 baud modems and dialing into IRC chat rooms. Wanting something that was masculine yet not my real name. Was in a huge Casablanca phase, watching it 3-4 times a week, saw the box on my desk and it was a given.
As for my avatar, it's Rob Gordon from High Fidelity, my all-time favorite character in a movie. I would trade my day-to-day life for his straight up. On every other board I use the J!NX skull with glasses, because I'm normally the biggest nerd on that board, but here it just doesn't seem right.
backhandbandit
10-25-2006, 04:59 PM
Well, my user name is an homage to my earliest LAN party days for Halo (1st).
It came from the cliché "he was beaten like he stole somthing". I switched things around by saying "he was back-handed like a bandit". Soon after, the gamertag and alter-ego "BackhandBandit" was born.
My avatar is an homage to too much free time with MS Paint.
