I was over at my aunts’ house the other day and my little cousin was watching Nickelodeon. I sat and watched it with her for a few minutes, and my god what the hell happened to it?

A network that graced me with one my all time favorite shows The Adventures of Pete and Pete is now this....this MTV for 10 year olds.

I guess I've just not watched it in a while, A pillar of my youth has fallen.

....A little late huh?

People have been asking what happened to Nickelodeon since the late 90's.

For sure. And don't even let your child under 13 watch The N. Seriously, I'm sitting there with my 8-year old daughter and there's a commercial for the latest Degrassi where it was insinuated that this guy couldn't perform for his girlfriend. WTH?

All you have are these show where preteens are worried about getting a boyfriend or reruns of Full House and The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire. No new Double Dares, Amanda Shows, Legends of the Hidden Temple (though can see some of the gameshows on the Nick G&S Network).

I was flipping through the channels in a hotel not too long ago and saw that they were playing huge blocks of Rosanne and some other sitcom instead of childrens programming at like 9pm-6am followed by Spongebob and some cartoons I've never heard of before. My question is when did Nickelodeon become Nick At Night... or better yet when did it become G4? Whatever, I think we should just blame Keenan and Kel and move on with our lives.

i loved nickelodeon growing up. are you afraid of the dark, hey dude, salute your shorts, pete and pete were instant classics and it hurts to see a generation growing up with no original content on that network.

it's not just Nick though...it's all programming for kids. what did happen? i kind of blame Cartoon Network.

rememeber when saturday morning cartoons were an event? remember on abc's TGIF how they would have a fall preview of all the new saturday morning cartoons? seeing alvin and the chipmunks at night felt wierd and kinda magical. Cartoon Network gave us cartoons 24/7.

The sucsess of Saved By the Bell turned nbc's saturday morning cartoon slot into bad live action shows. We had California Dreaming, the show about the girl on the boy's basketball team, and who knows what else.

Fox's stuff turned to crap real fast.

It's just sad how in 10 years there will be 2 guys with a podcast waxing nostolgia over old reruns of our old shows . Our kids deserve better meories than that.

Yeah, I'm surprised they can get away with that shit. All my younger cousins watch Degrassi, and they talk like they can relate. "Yeah people get preggers all the time Paul" then I tell them they're still in the 6th grade. It's ****ing ridiculous.

Doesnt everyone know that Degrassi isnt really for kids anyway? The guy was in a wheelchair by the way.

Nickelodeon isn't all bad there's still some decent stuff on there once and a while. If I happen to see it when flippin channels, I'll watch Drake & Josh or the show with Britney Spear's younger sister, Zoey 101. I know I have no reason to watch them whatsoever, yet I enjoy them none the less.

The only semi-current kids show I secretly loved was Even Stevens on Disney. I haven't seen that in a long time though.

But back in the day Punky Brewster was probably my favorite live-action show other than the Nick originals that practically raised me like Cable Guy.

we don't get Nickelodeon in Canada (that I Know of), but what the hell happened to Degrassi, that's really really sad. It was a government sponsored show that dealt with issues that no one else could. Not saying this may not be an issue for a couple of kids... but I think at this point they're simply reaching.

Yes! My favorite was the Mr. T cartoon, classic.

I forgot about Drake and Josh, that's a good one. Not that I would be watching it without my kid, but you learn to grow fond of some of the programming.

Oh, about Degrassi...the guy was in a wheelchair? Ok. I know that stuff is too heavy for a 3rd grader, so I've banned The N from mine unless I'm there and something more appropriate is on.

i dont watch tv that often anymore besides primetime... i do watch some stuff on nick - drake and josh, fairly oddparents, spongebob... noggin\the-n is a different station and they sometimes play the original degrassi (what satori's talking about) where spike, snake, joey where the main cast... the regular degrassi program thats airing right now is degrassi-the next generation (what iggy's talking about) with jimmy (the kid in the wheelchair), emma (spike's daughter)...

the only other kids cartoons i watch are billy & mandy and foster's home for imaginary friends...

What was that show called where the girl could liquify herself into a metal blob.......

Are you afraid of the dark?, Doug, Rocco's Modern Life, You Can't Say that on Television, and Clarissa Explains it all were my favorite shows on Nick.

I didn't get cable until I was a senior in high school.

I don't think I've ever laid eyes on Nickelodeon.

I was a junior in high school and I think I stayed home for a week when we first got cable.

I watched Nickelodeon for like days straight (and Mtv as well).

It is a shame...I have so many great memories watching Doug, Rockos Modern Life, Are you afraid of the dark, I cant even remember some now...But yeah, used to love those shows.

The greatest thing about Doug was that it literally only had 7 episodes that I would watch over and over and over. I didn't watch the new Doug that had him with longer sleeves on his white undershirt.

Firstly, Nick has always shown OLD reruns durring night. Hence it being called Nick at Night. I remember when I was about 6 and after the last show something in black and white would come on. So that's not new.

But now, the only good shows are Drake and Josh, which I love, Fairly Oddparents. But they don't hold up to the older shows as well. Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains it all and Kablam!! are some of my favorite shows of all time. And does anyone remember the name of the show were you were put into video games? I remeber that being the coolest when I was a kid. Probably wouldn't really work now though :(

Avatar is an awesome show. And I'm the world's biggest hater of Amerime.

I think every child should grow up watching Ren and Stimpy.

As for the rest of Nick? It was always hit or miss. Pinwheel mother****ers!http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/images/catalog/thumb/ZZZ003544-A-PI.gif

I'll second the nod for Avatar - it's a fantastic show (with this coming from an ex-anime fan who got utterly burned out and disgusted with the whole of the medium). Awesome stuff.

You just need to watch the right stuff and typically not what is popular since most anime fans have horrible taste.

yeah...how the players would tell which way to move "Mikey" on the board. then they would play games where they are "in the game", but it was just them hitting air while the graphics were on the screen.
