I wanted to ask a question about last nights Jericho ... and couldn't find a thread here. That surprised me a little.
No love for post-apocalyptic dramas??
Anyway ... I was kinda tired when I watched last night.
Jake has special skills, so does the black guy from out of town. I am curious why Jake's passport came up when the black guy searched the restricted passport list? Why would he search there first ... wouldn't a DoD database be a better first choice?? Anyone else notice Jake wears dog tags (evident in last weeks episode when he got out of the shower). Also, he was in San Diego ... I am not sure if there is a prison down there, but there definately is a major naval and marine base down there.

Well I've never had a passport but would a felon show up on a passport list, ecspecially if he just got out and was on parole? I just don't see him in military, you can buy dog tags. But military could explain how he changed from what his dad said he left a punk but came back an upstanding guy. Maybe military then got booted or thrown in jail?
The two big mysteries to me are Jake's past and is the black guy good or bad? Oh ya and who the **** nuked us...

If he was military and AWOL - he might appear on a watch list.
Also, he might be on a watch ist because he is special ops ... it was unclear why he was on the list from the brief screenshot we saw.
Hell ... *I* am on a watch list (which is an issue - I am going for a green card, and travel over US borders regularly) ... because my name is the same as someone elses that is on the list.

Ya I'm gonna watch it again cause I was doin other stuff so I missed some stuff. Special Ops?? hmmm that would be possible but haven't seen him through down any fighting skills though.

Hmmm one less mod .. *reaches for the phone* :) kidding. I think Jericho is taking some hints from Lost don't reveal too much to keep people interested and it's working on me I'm liking it.

I just assumed with so much crazy shit going on, that the passport database was all he was able to access.
And I really don't know why I watch this show, i'ts not that great and nothing really happens, yet here I am every week. Maybe it's just do to slow wednesdays on tv.

Special Ops?? hmmm that would be possible but haven't seen him through down any fighting skills though.I have a buddy in Australia (technically, I guess he is in Iraq/Afghanistan at the moment). But he is a sapper - an explosives and demolition expert - using his engineering skil to pull thing apart rather than put them together. He is special ops (Special Air Service Regiment - SAS, like the US Army Rangers) but is a specialist - and says he is lousy with the combat roles (he could kick our butts though), but really enjoys blowing the crap out of things.
As for me crossing borders ... not a big issue. As soon as they ask me where I was born its not a big deal. Its just the name that gets flagged, but it gets cleared up pretty fast.

Haha the more I talk about the shows I watch the more I wonder if I have any taste at all. My top 3 shows, most people are like that show isn't good. Not that it affects what I'm gonna watch I like it and F*ck everybody else. Just thought I'd mention it.
Maybe he could only get into the passport DB because it's all he can access. As in he only has permission to see that DB. Air Line Marshal? I think he's a good guy who just did what everybody else would do and saved his family when he found out something back was coming.

I wonder to myself I watch this show aswell, some of the outlandish stuff that happens just makes me cringe that im actually watching it but something just keeps me coming back. Im not sure what Jake has been doing the past few years but I just asumed it was some sort Navy guy from the beginning with the San Diego connection but then last night I started to think that Jake and the black guy (name escapes me) are both some type of underground goverment type Culper Ring group but just dont know each other or maybe they were both pool guys?
That super powers crack was a little forced in the show as well.

Jericho was kinda sucking... up until last night's episode. I'm starting to have hope for it again.
Last night as I was watching, I had the oddest notion that Jake is the other member of the black guy's group that went rogue.
My theory is that the black guy is a member of some government contingency plan to have military people in out-of the way places, hidden in non-likely targets for nuclear strikes. Like one-horse towns like Jericho.
The more I think about Jake being in the military, the more it makes sense... the tags, the needing to get back to San Diego the next day. All this oddball survival knowlege/intuition. My guess is that he was part of the contingency plan, they wouldn't let him come back for his grandfather's funeral, so he said "Screw you guys" and went AWOL from wherever he was supposed to be. Like some one-horse town near SD.
Unlike LOST, it looks like we might get answers soon, so it's fun to speculate in the meantime.

Ya I can see Robert, black guy - looked it up on imdb cause I couldn't remember either, as in something secret and govermental, but I don't think I'd like it if Jake was. I like it more that he was the town ****up and now he keep saving the day. Military would be aight but not secret government.

My wife can't get into the show, so it is one that I watch when she falls asleep on the counch later at night. She couldn't get into Firefly either until I bought the box set, and watched the DVDs - then she was all "wtf? they cancelled this??". One of these days she is going to ask me to fill her in on the backplot.
Surprisingly she is loving Heroes.

I'm glad this thread is here... I find that people don't want to discuss Star Trek, Stargate, or many of the lower budget shows. I tried watching Jericho, and wasn't thrilled with it... but if there's discussion on it, maybe I'll give it another chance.

I like the touch that the power was restored (by who??) ... makes filming less of an issue.
There are holes in the plot you could drive a Hummer through, but I suspect it will get a lot darker before too long. Like Heroes, they are building the characters.
I am waiting for the religious wackos and a paramilitary force to invade the town and hold it hostage.

I was confused by the rockets (nukes?) overhead at the end of episode five. I thought mutually assured destruction meant that our nukes were already in the air before yours even hit us? Which suggests that perhaps it took the government days to figure out who hit us in the first place.
Might not of been a missile attack. Maybe it was a few nukes sittin in trucks in different cities. Possibly?? But I'm with you on the missles not quite sure what's up with that. Because if it was truck bombs it probably wasn't a country, just them dam terrorists.
I haven't noticed a lot of holes (I assumed they had gotten the power going on between episodes or something), but I haven't watched every episode intently, either. I'm usually watching it in one window while working on other things.
Whatever happened to them sending people out in every direction to see if there was life in other towns? As best I could remember, they set out on foot... the son of the mayor ran into the crashed plane... and then they came back...?
The power came on in the most recent ep. Right when the gov't did a reverse 911 and told everybody to stay put and remain calm. Before that a couple places had generators. EDIT: I just realized just cause the power came on right when the gov't called doesn't mean the gov't turned the juice back on. I think that's what token is saying.
Jake, the mayor's son, came back but I don't think we know about any of the rest of them. I think they said something about them being gone for the past 3 days so they still haven't come back.

There was blood in the truck and a smashed passenger window. I can't remember the characters name, but he was feeling guilt over the death of the guy in the mine that was going hysterical - question is ... murder or suicide?? Eitherway, I don't think he will be coming back.

Oh ya I remeber that now. Wasn't he saying something on the radio when they first headed out about I'm sorry, I'm sorry. The town didn't receive it but the other guy that went out and was at the mine heard it and there was a gunshot. Still don't mean suicide but I'm thinking so, ecspecially since he left a note for that gal in town.
So that leaves 2 others that went out. And haven't returned yet.

I am just happy that TV viewers have matured from the 80/90's 1 hour story capsule prime time shows, gotten past reality TV, and can now sit through storylines that evolve over weeks instead of minutes. Makes me wonder if Babylon 5 would make it on a regular network now - it was before its time for the big 5.
I think 24 has got a lot to do with that - another season I am deperately waiting to return. Hope Jack likes chinese food.

There is still a serious lack of good sci-fi on television, though. But at least the days of West Wing are over and maybe we can get some fresh air into things?I have nothing against West Wing, or ER, or any other long running prime time soap. I also enjoy CSI:* (all of them - though CSI:Miami this season is pissing me off ... someone get a new post production tool to edit the show this season?? Stop it - its CBS not MTV), Grey Anatomy, and stuff like Shark. I'll even watch L&O reruns.
BUT - I really enjoy the epic storyline. The one with the well thought out plot, where there are no (or few) plot inconsistencies. B5 was scripted from day 1 as a 5 year series, and worked fro a bible that provided back history on all the characters.
24 is a limited, one season storyline, but again, it has a plot that needs to hook together from week to week to work.
Heroes and Jericho are (I hope) the same. I know they were each signed up for limited seasons ... but I hope writers have a clearly defined beginning/ middle/end so that the plot lines flow, and have a purpose. Just like in B5 when B4 jumped back in time - that wasn't an accident, it was clearly needed later in the series. Ditto Hiro jumping back ... that will be important later I am sure.

Prime-time TV is over run with crime proceedurals, relality shows, contemperary character dramas or sitcoms. There's very little room Sci-fi.

Well, from my time growing up in Minnesota, I know of at least one in Iowa and possibly one in South Dakota. The reason they put it there is a) helping out farmers by buying up their unused farmland instead of paying them NOT to plant crops (and yes, they do that) b) it's usually rural farmland that doesn't normally have a lot of traffic, and nothing around for miles. Ideal situations for building/maintaining something in secret.

Our farm that's in Nebraska has a missle silo about 2 miles away. They took the missle away so it's just a silo now but during the cold war we had one.

But who the hell would have something that can generate enough of an EMP to take out the missles from Wyoming and knock out Jericho. It's gotta be a country.

Well it seemed like a few characters changed. Jake went from level headed to a hot head. But his mom could of been killed. And Bob lost some mystery for me. But I was more happy that we found some stuff out.
Jake was involved with bad guys and a kid ended up dead, then he left town. They were gonna rob somebody.
Bob has a secret gov't laptop that's EMP proof. He was gone for four years from his family. He had some group photo like a graduating class from the CIA??

The computer Robert has is a Panasonic ToughBook (http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelList?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&catGroupId=32001), and the 29/30 models are rated to MIL-STD-810F. This basically means they are sealed against dust, water, and can be run over by a tank. It doesn't mean they are radiation/EMP shielded.
Unless the case is a grounded Faraday Cage, I am guessing its not EMP proof, but, as I said, this is SciFi - anything is possible :)

True it's SCI-FI but there's gotta be some way to EMP proof stuff. Like the electronics on Air Force One I'm sure are EMP proof. I'm almost posotive I remember hearing on Discovery or The History Channel that Air Force One is protected against EMP so if they can do it there they could probably do it to a lap top as well.

I'm almost posotive I remember hearing on Discovery or The History Channel that Air Force One is protected against EMP so if they can do it there they could probably do it to a lap top as well.I read somewhere that aircraft are natural faraday cages, and fairly immune to static blasts (ie lightning strikes). Taking that a step further it would be possible to ruggedise an aircraft body against all but a direct EMP blast. BUT during the cold war, when paranoia was at its height, the US Govt had planes decked out in retro electronics - vaccuum tubes and relays, since electrical circuits are not susceptible to an EMP, but ELECTONIC ones are (chips basically). If the folk in Jericho could fins an old car or tractor (early 70's?) with no electronic ignition, etc., then they should start up OK.
Also, my understanding of EMP is that it only effects devices with a current running through it - so most cars would still work anyway. Anyone able to correct me on that??

We're not sure which side Robert, the black guy, is on. Is he a gov't guy who had inside info and ran away to save his tail? A secret gov't guy who was ordered out to help after the attack? The whole mid season break thing is why 24 doesn't start until January - so it can have a complete run right through to the end of the ratings season.

I totally wanted Ajax to say to Jake " You turning ****ot on me?". The dream sequences were pretty stupid and it didnt help that her fiance was the guy Buffy took on a date to the graveyard, and I dont know about the supplies im sure someone will eat them but are they for real or just poison or something. Hawkins is such a badass and hes really good at hiding his British accent.

"Never Kill a Boy on the First Date" I agree... his playing that role totally took me out of the episode. But hey, I guess that young actor fella has to eat.

The actor is british so I think it makes it very possible that hes MI5.

That would be a twist the Brits attacked us. Payback for us kicking them out 230 years ago.

So this bugged me the whole way through. It's Thanksgiving and yet the corn is so green. I should be ****ing brown. Hell it should be picked by Thanksgiving.
So who killed the store owner? My money is on the second in command of the looters.

Yeah I think it was the guy whos getting mad at Jonah for not doing anything about the Generator, but Jonah will get blamed and end up having all the groups after him.

Fall Finale last night and some shit went down. I couldnt beleive that the people elected Grey mayor I just didnt think that would happen but maybe its because hes so unlikeable as a character which probably explains his political aspirations. Emily's character has really grown since the beginning when I felt she was just a secondary one dimiensional character. I think there is more to the Grey and Jonah situation not sure what but it seemed like Grey has more against Jonah then just thinking he killed Gracie. Im still not sure what Bob is but shits gonna go down when his people come to town, hopefully they are more of a threat than what Ravenwood turned out to be. At the end of the ep when all those people showed up I immediately thought they were zombies but then they were carrying luggage and I knew that Richard was going to be one of them they also reminded me of The 4400. The return wasnt really much of a cliffhanger but the kid killing Mitchell was awesome. Also what the hell's up with the deaf girl picking up the high school kid?

She's pissed at her bro for nailing the IRS chick and I think she has a crush on the kid who takes over the store, but the popular *****, i mean girl, is sniffing around him so the deaf girl is doing some rebelling. I just have a bad feeling it's gonna end with her getting raped if they go that dark.
I doubt Jonah will be exhiled for long, and totally love Mitch getting shot, I thought it was gonna be Jonah but the store kid is better.

Anyone besides me see a subtle allegory between the mayoral election and any US presidental elections? I thought there was a lot of subtext there.

So not sure if anybody else knew but on wikipedia they break down the morse code that plays during the title shot and it does have some interesting things there.
This is what they say.
Pilot - “JERICHO PILOT”
Fallout - “JERICHO FALLO”
Four Horseman - “JERICHO THREE”
Walls of Jericho - “HE KNOWS ROB”
Federal Response - “THERE IS A FIRE”
9:02 - “THE EMP HITS”
Long Live the Mayor - “PRAY FOR NYC”
Rogue River - “ROB NOT FBI”
Crossroads - “AOV SURPRISE”
Red Flag - “IT BEGINS WITH”
Vox Populi - “6 AND ENDS WITH”
Most aren't too big but I'm not sure what AOV Surprise means. That was the ep where they were gonna blow the bridge. And the last two It begins with 6 and ends with. Seem kind of ominous.

Yeah, we'll probably have to wait till the new year and a new episode to finish that sentence.
Good find... I didn't realize they changed from episode to episode.

That was the one with the radiation survivor that knew Rob and was part of the group or whatever.
I was hoping somebody knew that the AOV stood for.
