It's Halloween and Kevin and Alex have gotten into the spirit of things. Listen as Alex *****es about flying up to SF to do the show and Kevin brags about his apartment. Convincing costumes to say the least. Unfortunately it sounds like it was a calm Halloween for everyone.

This week, they're drinking beer from the Diggnation Beer Club, thanks to our partner, the Clubs of America and you can join in on the fun by going to Diggnationbeerclub.com (http://www.diggnationbeerclub.com/) and register and get the beers that Kevin and Alex drink every week! Once you sign up, you'll receive 12 bottles of beer a month to enjoy while watching Diggnation. Go sign up today! You must be 21 or older and a resident of the U.S.

Looking for some ideas for your next birthday cake? How about a cake like this? (http://global-dream.blogspot.com/2007/10/would-you-eat-this-cake.html) Would you eat it? Kevin would, because at the end of the day, it's just a cake. But for Alex, his initial reaction is that it's a bit too disgusting. Kevin points out that in some cultures, monkey brains are a delicacy. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Would_you_eat_this_cake_PiC)

Trent Reznor and Saul Williams are mourning the demise of OiNK (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2007/10/trent_reznor_and_saul_williams.html). Saul Williams is a hip hop artist who's being produced by Trent Reznor and is going to be releasing his next album completely digital, like Radiohead just did, for which Kevin totally overpaid because he didn't notice the exchange rates between dollars and British pounds. Alex has a candid question for everyone, "Is it okay to not pay for an album and download it, even if you enjoy it?" Kevin doesn't think so, he thinks that if after listening to an album and you enjoy it, donating is a great way to pay back for your enjoyment. He'd even pay more than the normal price because he enjoys it. Kevin actually prefers the approach Trent Reznor took with his last record, by streaming it online for free and then allowing you to go buy the record if you like it after listening online. Trent Reznor, by the way, paid $5,000 for the Radiohead album to help support the idea. Reznor had an account at OiNK, which was a file sharing website that was shut down, because it was a great source for music in all formats. Reznor also give his thoughts on iTunes and Amazon's MP3 service. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/tech_news/Trent_Reznor_and_Saul_Williams_Discuss_Their_New_C ollaboration_Mourn_OiNK)

Trent Reznor: do you watch Diggnation? E-mail us at diggnationfans@gmail.com and use the subject line: "I am Trent Reznor" thanks.
In the spirit of Halloween, we give you the 8 Halloween costumes sure to piss people off (http://www.doubleviking.com/bullet-points-8-halloween-costumes-sure-to-piss-everyone-off-6894-p.html). Some of these are pretty obviously disturbing, like Bin Laden and Anna Nicole Smith with vomit on her chest. Kevin and Alex disagree about Borat costumes though, that's still funny. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/offbeat_news/8_Halloween_Costumes_Sure_To_Piss_Everyone_Off)

The news of the Google Cell Phone is starting to come out (http://www.techconsumer.com/2007/10/29/google-unveiling-gphone-plans-in-two-weeks-wants-to-change-the-cellphone-industry/) and Kevin has some thoughts about that the scenarios for the phone and how Google may be integrated into the cell phone world. Does any discussion of cellphones not evolve into talking about the iPhone? Of course not. Alex and Kevin talk about how they've hacked their iPhones and the challenges of hacking after the latest update. But back to the Google Phone, it doesn't sound like its anything extraordinary, other than the rumor that it will be distributed for free. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Unveiling_Gphone_Plan_In_2_Weeks_Wants_to_C hange_Cellphone_Industry)

Have a Nintendo Wii? Well the news broke that friends codes are here to stay and there are no plans for a hard drive (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=22282). This drives Alex nuts because he can't believe gamers like the friends codes, but Kevin points out that this came from the Nintendo internal PR, and probably doesn't reflect the opinions of real gamers. Kevin guesses that in a few months, he wouldn't be surprised if friends codes are gone. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Nintendo_Friend_codes_are_here_to_stay_and_no_hard _drive_planned)

Now THIS is HD! (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/military-sim-almost-brings-halo-3-to-reality/military-vr-simulator-is-closest-thing-ever-to-real+life-halo-3-315435.php) A military simulator uses High Definition screens to immerse a you in a virtual reality. Kevin says, "this is the best VRIi thing I've ever seen!" Digg This Story (http://digg.com/tech_deals/WOW_Now_this_is_HD_TV)

Just in time for Halloween, science gives us 5 reasons how a Zombie apocalypse can happen! (http://www.cracked.com/article_15643_5-scientific-reasons-zombie-apocalypse-could-actually-happen.html) Scientific examples of ways humans can turn into Zombies, like brain parasites and neurotoxins. All of these possible afflictions freak Kevin out. Digg This Story (http://digg.com/general_sciences/5_Scientific_Reasons_a_Zombie_Apocalypse_Could_Act ually_Happen)

I was thinking that the Rev3 logo had too much coffee and couldn't sit still!

Great Ep otherwise!

I was the guy (Say what you will) in the photo at the end of the show. I have to set the record straight, that was not a soda, it was the high life my friends. Come on, you can't carve pumpkins sober!

Thanks to the diggnation crew for selecting those photos, it really gave us a thrill.

The guy used to have PC's on tour so he could play Doom.

I feel stupid, it took me until about 4:30 or so (just before Alex mentioned his mac didn't do what he expected) to realize they swapped their laptops lol.

Anyone else take a bit to click?

As for the friend codes, you are supposed to have friends beforehand. It's fine for playing your RL friends but it's not for making friends in-game. Also, Live like service is big in the west, not so much in the east. I doubt the HDD thing since they did license drivers for it IIRC.

Good episode though.

Really love the show but 661mb for the large Xvid? Is it that hard to properly encode a video of two guys sitting on a couch?

Really love the show but 661mb for the large Xvid? Is it that hard to properly encode a video of two guys sitting on a couch?Yea, that's it. A company founded on ideas of internet video has no idea how to encode something. It's to bad they don't have you working for them to show them how to do it correctly. If you're to poor to buy a hard drive to hold your precious 661 megs of space, or, your internet connection is to slow for you to wait the 5 minutes to download it, either use a player like KMPlayer so you can watch it while it's downloading, or use the flash player at a lower quality and smaller file size.

Until then, do us a favor and quit bit?hing when there are other options that might more meet your needs.

A company founded on ideas of internet video

Look, I'm just saying:

QT Large: 373mb
WMV Large: 321mb
XVID Large: 661mb

So it's double the bitrate of the WMV? Heh, it's 50mb bigger than the HD version. You really don't think that's a *little* excessive? Kind of like your response? Heee!

Then stream the episodes if the file size is too big...

Anyway. Good ep. When I saw prager sitting there with them...it really seems like it was a 3piece diggnation just without him mic'd or filmed...weird to think that we are seeing other "hosts" that aren't being included. After all, they ARE apart of like every conversation and topic discussed, aren't they? (the extra people I mean)

Sorry about the bouncing revision3 logo/bug. I was a bit confused when I read about it happening. I finally figured out that it happened because both Glenn and Mauricio split the editing job of this episode and each of 'em had the bug placed at a different spot -- so between segments that each of them did, the logo moved and we never noticed until now.

Sorry about that -- we won't be making a habit out of it ;)

I totally didn't notice it...shows how much I pay attention I guess.

Or maybe I was distracted by that insane blonde wig...I saw Kevin trying to swoop the bangs on it to the right a few times like his haircut. I laughed.

There seems to be a lot of negative comments on this thread so far, mainly negative infact.

I just wanted to say, ignore it all. I'd hate for the guys to look at this and end up thinking "well why bother doing the show?"

You do a splendid job, and these people are just nerds with nothing better to complain about.

"He must really be a geek."

The guy used to have PC's on tour so he could play Doom.

It wasn't called nine inch nail gun in Quake for nothing.

Apparently kevin and alex had no idea that trent is a self taught man. He left his record label and started his own, then he started recording albums himself, releasing them himself, started his own touring company, shoots, edits and releases his own dvd's.

Are you sure that's the reason? I know the master tape is edited down to the episode, but this episode's video (for the most part a continuous stream, with the occasional lower banner added) had the bug not only jumping, but transitioning, and transitioning is an intentional behavior.

Did anyone else feel unsettled about the swapping of seats before filming this episode? I expect Alex and Kevin to be seated in their familiar positions. You guys are freaking out this obsessive compulsive fan.
