View Full Version : No, on second thought, let's not anticipate 11/5/07's comics. 'Tis a silly idea.

The Shipping List (http://ifanboy.com/shipping.html)

This looks to be a quality, light week.

I personally can't wait for Criminal #10 because it's my favorite comic today. And New Avengers: The Illuminati #5 because I want to know who's a Skrull

it's funny yuou say it's a light week. This is my classically overloaded week, but I've dropped some titals over the months so it's gotten more reasonable. I dying to sink my teeth into some more Exterminators.

I did the same, my rule of thumb is that if I'm not absolutely psyched to read a book, I drop it

And Iron Fist. This is a big week for me, too.

I'm really looking forward to just about every issue big time too.

The most anticipation is for almost final Y and the Final Starlord issues.

If there's one book I want the strike to help, it's Astonishing, I honestly forgot about that awesome cliffhanger until you mentioned it

I have been so down on the X-Men for so long. I picked up Messiah Complex because I liked the cover and I was very impressed by it. It felt like one of those old-school X-Men crossovers, before everything got too convoluted. Gave me this good feeling inside like when I picked up "Fall of the Mutants" or "Inferno".

I've been thinking about picking up Ms. Marvel. If it came out a different week, I probably would have by now. I don't think it's gonna happen this time, though, I've been buying a lot of trades lately and hopefully that will be continuing with Essential Spider-Man Vol 3 tomorrow, if the shop has it.

This is the quickest I've ever plowed through Essentials and edging out Thor as the most enjoyment I've gotten out of them, as well.

The Order and The Initiative are tied for "book I buy because I'm going to love it any minute." The engine is just about to turn over...! One more hard turn of the key...!

I have a nice ten-book week. The first heavy week in a while. My Y the Last Men have been piling up for months; shoulda switched to the trade ages ago, but too late now. Astonishing X-Men? Illuminati? Hoo-effing-rah!

(Actually, I'm pretty sure the events of Illuminati #5 take place after, like, Mighty Avengers #9, but apparently Marvel decided it doesn't matter. We've all thrown up our hands re: continuity and chronology in this, the era of the late book.)

I was about to say "I never read the X-Men, but I'm strangely excited by "Messiah Complex") but then I realized that I own every issue of "Astonishing", I read Peter David's "X-Factor", I've been on and off of "Ultimate X-Men" this whole time, and I loved Brubaker's recent "Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire" arc.

ALTHOUGH I'm still not a regular reader of the two flagship books because the legacy left behind by Chris Claremont is too damn confusing and I left "New X-Men" when they gave the kids uniforms.

Long story short? Got the MC one-shot; didn't feel confused once; I am on board for "Messiah CompleX".

I will see your 18 comics and raise you to 27.

Sweet Lord! I have 6, I think, but I rarely let myself go past 10. I'll put stuff back to stay at 10 or lower. (Although I may use this lighter week to get a trade.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Robin
Supergirl (maybe)
Astonishing X-Men
New Avengers: Illuminati
Uncanny X-Men (MC can't be any worse than "One More Day")

I'll tell you, the Marvel pyramid of delays (Mighty Avengers, One More Day) plus my utter aversion to anything DC does with the multiverse has really lightened up my stack these past several weeks. Anyone have any good non-traditional suggestions that I could try from this week's list? I was thinking of "Iron Fist". What else is good this week that isn't on my list?

I already love both of 'em. What's about either isn't working for you? I didn't think I had a ready answer for that, but as I think about it I realize both have the same answer: both are books that seem to have 27 main characters, none of whom I know anything about and all of whom barely get enough panels per book for me to learn anything or care about them. If I retain a name from issue to issue, I chalk it up in the win column.

Can I post my entire list?

It would be easier to say that COUNTDOWN and THE ORDER are what I am least interested in. However I expect The Order to take off any issue now. And Countdown impressed the hell out of me last week so I am curious to see if it continues. Everything else I can't wait to tear through (STEVE NILES STRANGE CASES, ANNIHILATION CONQUEST, ANNIHILATION CONQUEST STAR LORD, ASTONISHING X-MEN, CRIMINAL, IMMORTAL IRON FIST, NEW AVENGERS ILLUMINATI).

Yeah, I was actually disappointed by the first issue after seeing it was POW, but I've enjoyed each issue a little bit more. I still don't love it but I'm definitely enjoying it enough to keep picking it up.

Did anyone read those Mystic Arcana books? Were they any good? I ended up passing on them, but I was hoping the thing would develop as an Annihilation-like event for Marvel's Fantasy based characters? However I haven't seen much talk about them.

The cast for Initiative is a bit large and three fourths of it is all new characters, so I guess that makes sense. On the other hand, The Order is a normal sized group, but effectively 100% new characters (everyone but "Pepper" Potts; oh, *and* they scrapped a bunch of people in the first issue...heh ;), so I can see how that'd be a bit difficult. Being monthly rather than every other month would help, too, I'd expect.

I guess I should just be happy you're buying 'em and you're optimistic. :) I hope it revvs up for ya!

They're...ok. Definitely one of those mini-series that I'm glad I'm buying in issues as opposed to a trade.

While it seems like it'll have ripples in the magic-using community in the MU, I don't think it'll be as big (or as big a deal) as Annihilation.

I'll let'cha know more after tomorrow, when the final issue comes out. :)

Hmmm, I'm on the light side this week.

Should I anticipate the surfer book? I guess so, I love my Surfer.

Realistically though it's the X-men books. Both of them. I'm desperate to enjoy some mutant fun. I hope it pays off.

Couple of questions:

New team on FF this month? Should I hop on?

That Unfunnies book (from Millar) is that just a reprint of the first two books in anticipation of the release (finally!) of the last two?

I am looking forward to it, but... it's weird... I was sure the events of Illuminati #5 were dependent on the outcome of World War Hulk and Mighty Avengers #9 or something. I mean, I can surmise that the Hulk does not kill the Marvel Universe and start a new world order, and I also know intellectually that eventually Jessica Drew has to show up somewhere with that Skrull, but I'm sort of surprised that they would throw up their hands and steamroll along.
