Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up King and Parliament.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

A penny loaf to feed the Pope
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A ****ot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah hoorah!

So here's to a kick ass movie that I really feel is underrated.

V for Vendetta is fawking fantastic!

I watched it again tonight (since it was Nov. 5th and all) and was struck by how well it was done. The domino scene is just phenomenal...

and the way the message that was being portrayed about Margaret Thatcher in the comic translated so well into a parable about the current state of the world is simply astounding.

So, I want to talk about V.

What do you all think about the movie?
The ideas suggested by it?
Guy Fawkes?
Why the movie didn't do very well?
Do you think revenge, with good cause, can be more honorable or worthwhile than love?

Criticisms are welcome as well.

edit: Fun fact; the reason that we use the term "guy" to refer to dudes is because of Guy Fawkes and British children saying "penny for the Guy" so they can buy fireworks on Guy Fawkes day.

Hi, meet V's reinvarnation. V for Vendetta is better as a graphic novel. Read that again, instead of watching the movie.

It's also painfully obvious you didn't understand the movie. V wasn't getting revenge; the vendetta was a distraction for the law while V overthrew the government.

I have... I didn't read it first though.

Much like 300, I ended up reading the comic after seeing the movie.

Revenge may be the wrong word, the point I was trying to bring up was that V chose to fulfill his mission (to take over the government/take revenge on the people that wronged him) as opposed to staying with the woman who loved him.

Ouch, that would make the novel boring...

Novel > Movie

The movie cuts out everything and replaces it with slo-mo knife throwing.

Never saw it or read it. I only know the poem because of;

"Remember, remember, the 5th of December,
The patch day treason and plot.
I see no reason, for MS and Cleavin',
Since Tseric wants us to spec Prot."

For you Warcraft players.
Heh. :)

The best parts were cut from or never even considered for the movie; the biological warfare as the precedent, the racial intolerance, not to mention the Vicious Cabaret. I was so disappointed that it was not included.

Alan Moore is turning in his disheveled hermit-esque alcove.

I've come to realize that the wonderful works of Alan Moore could never be adapted into a film as good as the original novel.

I read the Graphic Novel before I saw the film and I loved the film. I'm not sure of the point of simply translating the book panel for panel to film. I know Sin city and 300 were pretty much done in this fashion and were great films, but the style and content of the originals lent themselves to a stylized recreation. If the graphic novel is so good that the film could only ever be AS GOOD as the original novel, then i think it's a legitimate question to ask why should it be done at all? I enjoyed the film.

Saw the movie first. It was a good movie. It doesn't compare to the graphic novel though. The novel outclasses the movie to such a degree that it's pretty sad actually. The movie cut out so much it's ridiculous and it also added a (yet another) swipe at America for the Iraq war. Seriously, get over. We don't need to hear about it everywhere. Especially on a story that has absolutely nothing to do about America. I still like the movie but to me it's just an action flick with a little bit of thought (just a little).

Yea, I know what you mean. I still wish the movie was a better adaptation of the novel. The detail and "side stories" were awesome and made it more engrossing. It also showed how much of a ****ing genius V is.
