Dragging this one over from the old GD thread.

Sigh. I just can't content myself with an avatar. I give it a day before Composite Superman pops back up. We'll give Heaven's Butcher a shot for now though.
I know what you mean. I can get bored pretty quickly with using the same one for to long, yet I want to be recognizable and memorable.
I've just decided to keep me and change everything else.
The new Fear Agent one will probably hang around for a few more days.

I'm having trouble juggling work and school this week. This is where everything sort of unraveled for me. I'm getting lazy in my free time, catching up on projects the morning that they're due (which translated into my skipping a class this morning and hoping I don't lose too many points by turning in the project on Friday) and other assorted nonsense that really isn't like me. I'm pretty burnt out on college at this point, and for the first time ever I'm really just trying to pass some classes, where I'd usually be fighting to maintain an A. I'm just tired more than anything else.

No comics for me today. I'll have to catch up next week.

What year are you? I really hit a wall my sophomore year. I stopped going to class... and my grades improved. My impression of academia only went downhill from there.

I'm the dreaded "super senior." I was ill in freshman year, and ended up having to drop some classes. So, I needed an extra quarter to wrap things up.

The problem is that, through co-op and then taking the summer quarter off this year (they weren't offering the classes I needed) I got a taste of life after college, working and making money and being able to pay for things and not having to write papers at 2AM. And now I'm working and sort of able to pay for things, and also doing papers at 3AM.

Ah the Super Senior, I did my time there as well Paper. Very tough staying focused on school.

I remember toughing out the last 2 months of school was brutal for me, then the last month was ridiculous. oh and the last 2 weeks I was like "what am I still doing here?"

Now I just want to go back.

Lost job of dreams and still stuck looking for a replacement. Check
Childhood hero kills family, then self. Check
Grandma suffers several severe strokes leaving her completely crazy and in my care. Check
Long time relationship comes crashing down. Check

The bright side is that there's no where left to go but up, I guess.

My favorite story of the day:

Cow Falls Off Cliff and Hits Van

Charles and Linda Everson were driving back to their hotel when their minivan was struck by a falling object — a 600-pound cow. The Eversons were unhurt but the cow, which had fallen off a cliff, had to be euthanized.

The year-old cow fell about 200 feet from the cliff and landed on the hood of the couple's minivan, causing heavy damage.

A Chelan County fire chief, Arnold Baker, said the couple missed being killed by a matter of inches in the accident Sunday on a highway near Manson.

The Eversons, visiting the area from their home in Westland, Mich., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

Everson, 49, said he didn't see the cow falling and didn't know what happened until afterward.

He said he kept repeating: "I don't believe this. I don't believe this."

The professionals call it "S.A.D." - seasonal affective disorder. So guys, you see, it's really not your fault. Get some more lamps and cheer up!Haha, I've always thought that was silly. I was having a totally serious discussion with a friend about depression, and of course we got to talking about treating it. I told her what medication I was on for my depression and she laughed and said "Pills are useless. My doctor gave me a lamp that produces natural light in the winter. If you'd like, you can borrow my lamp."

Speaking of strange, potentially fake, illnesses, someone came in and bought a book on Aspergers at work the other day. "Raising Your Teen With Aspergers" or something to that affect. I thought it was hilarious. My cheeks were red from holding in the fleet of comments like "Yeah, that was a pretty big breakthrough on MySpace".

Edit: I should note that Aspergers is just as real as Clinical Depression. People just have a tendency to believe they have both because they don't like people, or get sad sometimes.

I can't believe the negativity this week guys! Come on. At least you aren't this "dude"....

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/11/steven-dell-dude-sm.jpg

Dude, you're getting a drink: Dell dude now a waiter
Oh, how the mighty have fallen: Ben Curtis, famous just a few years ago as "Steven the Dell Dude," is now a waiter / bartender at Tequila Flats in New York. Although the Steven ads were hugely popular and generated tons of buzz (and revenue) for Dell, the company eventually dropped the campaign after Ben got arrested for buying pot in 2003 -- shocking no one who actually watched the commercials, but apparently not the message Dell wanted to send the parents fronting the cash for all those machines. Although he's down to slinging drinks, Ben's taking it in stride, saying "There were times when I made boatloads of money as an actor, but here I can be myself." That doesn't mean he's given up the dream just yet: he's hoping to score big with his band, Whale, which he says has "the green light," but has "decided to take a little time off to record our EP and package ourselves properly." Hm, seems like a perfect opportunity to get back together with Dell, actually -- it could use some new music after getting caught using GarageBand's built-in loops in that XPS One teaser.

My understanding is the Argos HAVE to make a bid otherwise the huge ROgers corp will have control over the Leafs, Raptors, and an NFL team. That would surely spell the end of the CFL. It's kindof a preemptive defence against a sports monopoly rather than the Argos management actually WANTING an NFL team.

That CFL is so weird, but at least attendance is rising. Who knows what an NFL team in TOronto would do to it. Realistically I don't think we get a team, this seems to come up every couple of years. I'd expect to see the Bills in LA first.

So we've all heard how Da Vinci painted the Last Supper as a clue to the feminine nature behind Jesus, right?
Well apparently, it's more then that. It's really a bit of sheet music.

Italian musician uncovers hidden music in Da Vinci's 'Last Supper'
...
Pala, a 45-year-old musician who lives near the southern Italian city of Lecce, began studying Leonardo's painting in 2003, after hearing on a news program that researchers believed the artist and inventor had hidden a musical composition in the work.

"Afterward, I didn't hear anything more about it," he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "As a musician, I wanted to dig deeper."

In a book released Friday in Italy, Pala explains how he took elements of the painting that have symbolic value in Christian theology and interpreted them as musical clues.

Pala first saw that by drawing the five lines of a musical staff across the painting, the loaves of bread on the table as well as the hands of Jesus and the Apostles could each represent a musical note.

This fit the relation in Christian symbolism between the bread, representing the body of Christ, and the hands, which are used to bless the food, he said. But the notes made no sense musically until Pala realized that the score had to be read from right to left, following Leonardo's particular writing style.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/11/09/italy.davincicode.ap/index.html

I can't wait to boot up Guitar Hero 4, and have Da Vinci's painting scroll across the screen! On a side note, I took a marker to God creates Adam by Michelangelo and it's really Van Halen's Hot for Teacher.

Da Vinci was such a rascal.

Can we talk about how awesome the new iPod Touch commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIttOsrKdBE&watch_response) is? I love the story behind it too. Offering a kid who assembled it and put it on YouTube an opportunity to reshoot in HD and air it as a national commercial. Just badass.

Speaking of the Touch, mine isn't quite getting the attention I thought it would. I can see why you don't use your iPhone as a music player, Blair. It's all in the touch screen. I love to play around with it, but when I'm out and about, I like having the ability to leave the thing in my pocket and toggle through songs. You can't really do that with a touch screen. So my trusty granny smith apple green nano is still my primary ipod.

I'm also having trouble with wifi. I just can't find hotspots. I'm debating the idea of a subscription service. Thoughts?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only guy that has that problem with the "World's greatest iPod".
My biggest complaint though is the lack of being able to manually manage my music. Why oh why must I SYNC?? That goes against everything Apple was known for with the original iPod.

The worst part is, my iPod video has never worked since I dropped it into my sink a few weeks back. I've been using the iPhone, but I'm constantly jonesing for an iPod.

Either way she freakin booked it lightning speed. I'm keeping my eye out for her, but I'm not holding my breath. I forgot the big thing with the Touch (or iPhone). Volume control. If you're wandering through the city on a cold day, going in and out of buildings and going from quiet streets to loud intersections, do you really want to have to take the ipod out of your pocket and adjust the volume? It's not really easy to do it without looking at the screen.

The solution, I think, is to find a really good pair of bluetooth headphones with volume and track controls on one ear piece. Just so you have that option.

Awesome, they apparently released a software update for the Touch enabling the "add event" ability for the calendar. Sucks that they even crippled it in the first place, but I'm glad they rectified the situation.

Well I'm a fan of the Summerboard app. but that does the themes, that you aren't a fan of.

Books- an eBook reader.
NES- a Nintendo emulator that is really nicely done
iRadio- lets you listen to internet radio through your phone.
iApp a day- A developer sets up a new goofy app each day. Nothing useful. Just goofy little things that are fun to mess with for a few minutes.
VoiceNotes - Let's you record little audio notes. (Don't understand why this wasn't on there before!)
Sketches- Let you use your phone as a note pad that you draw right on. To clear off the picture you shake the phone like an Etch- a-Sketch.
Mobile RSS- RSS reader for the phone
MobileCast- Let's you download podcasts right to your phone/touch.

There are a few more, but those are the ones that I can come up with off the top of my head.

Oh, you can always get iWoman. It keeps track of your cycle.

We served about 50 pounds of chicken, 4 extra large lasagna, a large turkey pot full of potatoes, 6 or 7 side dishes, desserts and a cake to about 50 women. There was NO FOOD left over. I'm was flabbergasted and in awe at the same time.

Oh and Bert, I miss him too.My sister got it for christmas one year. I was a little old, but I watched it despite that. Basically Elmo wishes for Christmas all the time, and he gets his wish. But after a while people get sick of recieving gifts all the time, because everyones run out of ideas. They basically skip the "stop buying gifts" solution, and Santa flies around the Earth super fast, turning back time (sound familiar?) to before elmo made the wish. Then Santa goes on vacation for a while.
