Simple message for Jim Louderback (sp?). When gamers asked Wizards of the Coast (who do D&D, etc.) why electronic versions of their books don't cost less than regular books, the answer was this (paraphrased):
"If we started selling e-versions of those books for less the retailers would send the printed ones back to us."
Why??? Because in this instance eBooks would be competing with the paper format, which would squeeze the retailers. (Gamers are into computers, many would love to have these books in PDF format in order to get more space in our living quarters).
So, instead of risking the alienation of their partners, WotC (at least) doesn't lower prices on e-books except as part of a special sale of some sort.
Just a thought.
