His become a bit of a so called geek icon and changed alot since then, his a writer and well respected in the open source community, which is why he is probally on board for this though thats just my speculation.
Do yourself a favour and don't go the whole 'oh its star trek guy'. He has a lot of potential to be a great host on here and he came off pretty well in the first episode. :)
Might be worth a look at his blog, though its being reworked at the moment theres a temp one up at http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/

He was in Star Trek: The Next Generation?!?!
Too bad Kirk is a better captain than Picard or I would totally digg him as a host.

Then think of him as Gordie from Stand By Me, possibly his best role ever.

I don't think I can imagine him as anyone else since he served under Captain Picard. Allowing a Klingon to work the bridge of a Federation vessel? Blasphemy!

I don't think an Ensign Crusher had any control over who worked for the Federation :-D

Someone obviously never saw Python or Toy Soldiers.

Ensign Crusher served below Captain Picard of the USS Enterprise which had control over the personell on his ship.

And yet again people are chatting about Will's early acting career. I don't think he particularly likes this period in his life in hindsight. He played an awfull character on that show that made the heirs in my neck stand up straight. Having to live with that afterwards must not be very nice, being confronted with a role you played as a kid mustn't be wonderfull either. Anyways it probably payed for his college education.

Actually, Picard let Wesley be on top...I had a couple of gay geek friends in Oz, and Wesley was their poster boy. Literally. He was the most popular ST:TNG character in the gay community. Could it be the young boy in tight unitards in fruity colours??
No wonder Wil desperately tries to distance himself from that character.

He should just embrace it. Anyone who tries to avoid gay mystique is bound to just look uncool.

You didn't realize that? He was Gordie, the one rejected by his father after his brother died. Following the death of my dad, I felt a certain connection to this character. Until you're told you should have been the one to die, and then are completely rejected for it...
For Wil's filmography being so short, he's had incredible, memorable roles alongside some huge Hollywood names.

Wow... I think people shouldn't judge other people based on the characters they play...
Either way, while Wil, at one point, tried to distance himself from Star Trek, he has since embraced his role and moved past that part of his life.
He is an accomplished author, a blogger, and a column writer. He is a geek. He no longer sees himself as the kid from Star Trek. Why? Because he is so much more.
Seriously, check out his blog (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com). You might learn a thing or two.

In Picard's defence, he's the only Star Trek captain I'd sleep with.
Well, maybe Janeway. She's pretty manly.

He's also the guy who called out G4 for being a shitty company who does nothing but steal the souls of young children.
If someone can find that they should post it too.

I loved TNG when I was a kid, and even though many people didn't like Wesley, I was around the age where I could really identify with the character. I mean, that was me! Holy crap! I'm a kid and I'm on the starship Enterprise in outer space! Wheee!
A few months back I stumbled upon his outstanding blog (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/), and ever since I've been reading it every single day. It's one of the few blogs that I never get bored with. It's inspired me to write much more frequently on my own blog (http://brianbassettblog.blogspot.com). I have to say that he truly has a fantastic perspective on his own life and on life in general for someone his age. He's really got a lot figured out, and he seems to be a geniunely happy person.
We geeks can learn a great deal from him. Read (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/) his (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/) blog (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/).
And buy his books. I'm reading Just a Geek (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/059600768X/wilwheatodotn-20) over Christmas break.
(Aside: By the way Wil, I hope my check is in the mail.)
As for his hosting on inDigital:
"Like Castlevania needs to be any harder." LOL
As for his role as Wesley Crusher:
Read his reviews of TNG episodes (http://www.tvsquad.com/bloggers/wil-wheaton) at TV Squad. They're hysterical.
