I have an idea for a new type of website but am reluctant to share the idea because I'm kinda thinking seriously about this. How would I go about finding someone who could either partner or just do the website building? Anybody know? Plus, I'm not entirely sure how the whole process goes of getting a .com name and getting things going. I posted this on Pownce as well cause' I'm looking for advice down every avenue.

i have had an idea since 2000 and have talked to a number of people about it
i have notebooks full of notes of ever evolving details
you need a very clear plan of exactly what you want to accomplish
what is being done already that is related or possibly duplicates your idea
you have to accept the fact that someone somewhere may already be doing what you wish to do
you need to know how much money you will need before you can go after venture capital
if you can put together a great team you can get the money you need (now is a good time for vc monies)
it is not so easy to even know what you need
you need website developers
you need content
you need financial people
you need legal people
you need executive and adminstrative staff
ideally before you present your plan (do not call it an idea because you cannot own an idea but you can copyright a specific detailed plan) you would get a non disclosure agreement but unless you already have a track record it is very difficult to get a non disclosure agreement from anyone in a position to help you
a one page executive summary is a good starting point
a good lawyer is a good start for your team
nothing ventured nothing gained

the domain name is the easiest part
you can purchase any domain name that no one else has registered
i own a number of domain names for future use
you can even purchase a domain name of your own name if no one else has already done so
but you need to nail down all the possible variations you might end up using
,com
.org
.net
.us
.biz
etc.
ps you also need marketing people
when i saw an ad for a pink zune in vogue and w magazines with the copy 'synch pink' (an obscure reference to an audrey hepburn/fred astaire movie about a fashion campaign think pink) i laughed because i had thought of that crossover marketing ploy long ago
a friend said to me 'but you didn't tell them' and i told her 'there was no point in telling them because they have no reason to know that they should listen to me'
that is what makes it hard
i have the email for approaching microsoft with a plan - it was not easy to get
somehow you have to bridge that gap and currently the mode of the moment is for google and microsoft to throw BILLIONS at those like facebook and youtube that have somehow made a presence for themselves even though there might be better ideas with more potential out there
but as i posted once before
'it is always the idea that starts the money never the money that starts the idea'
and there is also this
'there is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come'
it is all about timing
