A thread to promote the good guys.

My almost adult daughter was going to buy a trade collection in hardback for about thirty dollars. The guys at the desk told her it was also available in softcover for $12 less. My daughter of limited funds immediately said she'd rather take the softcover. Now that's nice. They stood to make less money gave the customer the choice. There's more.

Turns out they were out of the softcover so they'd have to order it. My daughter was in no hurry so she said sure. Should've arrived a week later. But it didn't. No sweat. We went back last night, Diamond had left it off again... so they insisted on selling her the hardcover at the softcover price and in addition, since I was doing the actual paying, they gave us my pro discount. They just felt like they should go the extra mile since it had been two weeks from the promised time.

So I'll continue to hit my other store to network with my animation pals, I'll only pick up a token comic or two. All my trade buys and major purchases will be through The COMICS FACTORY (http://www.comicsfactory.com/)in Pasadena, CA. If you're anywhere near, stop in, buy a comic or trade and tell 'em Tad Stones sent you .

Do you have a store that went that extra mile for you?

That is awesome, Tad. Next time I'm in the Pasadena area, I'll check it out.

Alas, I don't have any "wow, they did this for me!" stories...I guess the closest would be Earth-2 right here in Sherman Oaks. Really nice guys. I'm always in there with my son, and when they have events and stuff, they always make sure my son (who is 7 now) gets a sketch from the artist or whatever.

I don't have many wow stories past "We don't take debit, but I can give you directions to the nearest bank." Diresctions? Gee whiz. It's next door. He's a nice guy, just doesn't do the whole extra mile. He's really anti-social and is usually just reading until you actually approach the till. Once you get to know him I hear there are perks galore. He ordered in a fully working batman utility belt for a friend, and gave it to him at cost. That's about $60 off.

Well...my regular store (good ol' The Secret Headquarters (http://www.thesecretheadquarters.com) in Silverlake) did give me a free copy of New Excalibur 17 one time.

Alternatively, last year Golden Apple (http://www.goldenapplecomics.com/) in Hollywood let me return Checkmate #1 (hated it) and Ms. Marvel #1 and put those towards buying the Ms. Marvel hardcover instead. That was pretty nice of them.

*shrug*

Maybe I'm treated better by my bar Liquid Kitty (http://thekitty.com). I get really strong drinks there and occasional buybacks...

:)

Does anyone's store bag and board their comics for them when you have a pull list? I'd never heard of a store doing this until ACBG mentioned hers did.

My store bags all my comics - no boards though. It's a great bonus.

There are a few stores in the LA area that bag and board 'em, even if you don't have a pull list.

I don't bag or board my books, so it's a bit random for me. I'll go into a different store, pick up a few odds and ends, and then suddenly I have, like 3 comics with bags and boards, while the rest of my stack just lies around naked.

Half the time I just remove the bag and board and forget about them.

Somewhere, I probably just made a fanboy cry. ;)

My eyes are soaked with tears. I'm cryin' my heart out for your poor little naked comics. :D:eek:

All my 4,700+ comics are bagged. Many are boarded (a project I am working on). And all our kept in long boxes.

My issues are kept naked and not in the greatest condition in random areas of my house, outside of boxes. But my trades are neatly on a shelf, and most of them are bagged. Is that weird?

Where do I start?

Well the most recent is the Halloween mini-books which I ordered and he gave them to me at practically cost. They were a really fun thing to give out, and a decent price.

Also, this past summer he gave me multiple passes for the advance screening of Spider-man 3 and Fantastic Four 2 (both of which I enjoyed thoroughly thank you).

Plus he had a promotion thing where if you pre-order Nova you get put in a drawing for Annihilation HC vol. 1 and 2 plus you get Nova for $2 a pop for the first 12 issues. Well, I won, but he ran out of copies of Annihilation Vol. 1, so he gave me a copy of HC vol. 3 PLUS he gave me the TPB of book 1 when it came out.

I just got home from the comic store(did get paid until this morning) and as I was checking out the owner said, "You weren't here for the sale last week. since you're a regular, I'll give you the deal today. All trades are 20% off the American price and back issues are 50% off." An hour and $172 later, I am at home. I hate a good deal.

Sounds like quite a deal indeed. What did you get?

I picked up stuff I've never read like Jenkins Inhumans trade, the two Young Avengers trades, Marvels(I've never read it), a She-Hulk Trade, and then I bought some replacements for trades my ex swiped(Note to Self: Try to avoid getting someone your dating into comics).

Back issue wise, I filled some holes in my Hulk collection, mostly Mcfarlane/David era stuff I couldn't afford regularly.
