Depends on the area. I suggest he start looking now. Also, preorders help since they will have shipments for the holidays.

One thing, if you are in a store ASK them if they have any. (OK, if they have a sign saying "NO Wii's" you might want to forget it.) I got mine by asking at a CompUSA. I was there buying ink and I asked someone and they checked and they had one, I got it. The clerk said that they don't even put them on display. They get maybe five at a time and those who ask are the ones who get them.

You can find them, you just have to look.

it really depends on your area. i live in a small town about 100 miles from kansas city and i see wii's every day at the store. but drive an hour or so to KC and you cant find them anywhere. not sure what it is like where you are. but defiantly ask the clerks if you don't see them on display.

it's crazy, actually. I got mine on release day, and I can't believe people are still just hunting to get these machines. I remember how jealous all my friends were when I got it--but some are still feeling that now as they can't find one. so strange.

They are easy to come by in Australia. It sounds like nintendo needs to sort out its supply issues.

The shortage is mainly in NE and Japan. Mainly NE since they redirected many Wiis to NE from other areas. Although it's not exactly a global shortage ATM, many areas are still sold out.

Try Gamestops, preferably on Wednesdays, after noon or so. Oh, and don't tell anyone I told you that...

Toys'R'Us ... everytime I walk in (not often, but I have been twice in the last 6 weeks), they have had stock.

Also, don't forget online - Amazon has stock (and no taxes - which might balance out shipping costs).
