Well folks with a new Grendel series on the horizon, and an extensive 7 part interview with Matt Wagner at newsarama I wanted to start a thread.

Grendel has long been one of my favorite titles and Devil's Legacy was probably the first "adult" comic I ever read back in the day.

Sadly I missed Matt's appearance at the Toronto Comicon celebrating the 25 years of Grendel, but I wish I'd been there.

Here's something that's interesting, this is from the intro to the God and the Devil story arc:


"The first Great American Empire slid into its decline over the twenty-first century and concluded with the twenty-second. Bloated with the extended middle class, rampant debauchery, military indulgence and standardized communication that mark all imperial old age, the actual dying of America began… The already powerful mega-corporations then had precedent to declare themselves as following "policies" outside the law in an every-increasing number of cases. Soon, the federal government would be no more than an archaic ritual that the megacorp's eventually wiped out."

That just about makes me cry every time I read it. I didn't want to be right. Still don't

Anyways, is anyone planning picking up the new Grendel series?

Cause I am, and I'm excited.

I'm definitely getting the new series. Love Grendel, always have. I'm really glad that Wagner is doing something fresh with the new arc too.

Oooooo....I love all things Grendel. It was my first more "adult" comic too. It took me years to finally get my hands on all the issues of the regular series and it's very sweet.

This is a series I'd like the Ifanboys to pick apart. I rarely hear anyone talk about it anymore.

And you know how Dark Horse has reprinted the entire 40 issues of the original series? And how MOST of those are now available in trade? I emailed Dark Horse and they said there are no plans to collect the last 2 arcs into trades or hardcovers. WTF??

If you like Matt Wagner you need to read his Grendel works. Hell, if you like comics you should!

Well Six, you should check it out. Especially the early stuff about Hunter Rose and Christine Spar, I'll warn you though it's pretty violent, so don't show mom I guess. :D
