What are some of the biggest plot holes in movies? Ones that you just can't get over and drive you crazy when you think about it.

Back to the Future 3:

So Doc gets sent back to 1885 when he is struck by lightning in the second movie. He hides the time machine in a cave and blocks it in. He writes Marty a letter telling him where (when) he is. It is delivered to Marty in 1955 and he tells him where to find the time machine that he hid in 1885 so he can get back to 1985...also telling him not to try to rescue him because he is happy.

Marty enlists the help of the 1955 Doc to retrive the hidden time machine in the cave. While doing that they come across Doc's grave from 1885 and decide Marty needs to go save him.

So Marty goes back to 1885. When he arrives the fuel line gets broken and all the gas drains out. This is important becasue the whole movie is them trying to get the car to 88mph before the duel with Mad Dog Tannen.

The HUGE hole that drives me crazy is...once Marty comes back to 1885 there is now 2 cars. The one in the cave waiting for Marty to find in 1955 and the one Marty just brought back.

Couldn't Doc just go to the car he hid for Marty and get some gas out of it?

Time travel movies all have huge plot holes...that's the nature of the genre.

Have you read "The Time Traveler's Wife"? My favorite book of all time. It deals with time travel better than anything I have seen. Plan B has the rights to it and I pray they make that movie in a way all of the stuff in it holds up.

That book is awesome!!!!!! That ranks as one of my all-time favorite book too. I think I read it in about two days. Yes, the time travel aspect was profound, plausible and assessable (as time travel can be).

OMG! A movie? That's exciting and scary...we all know how book-to-movie adaptations can go very, very, very, wrong. I remember reading back in the day that Brad Pitt was interested in playing the lead....I didn't get that vibe when I actually read it myself.

I think the rumor about Brad Pitt as the lead came from the fact his company owns the right.

According to HSX (Hollywood Stock Exchange) Rachael McAdams has already been cast in the lead role. Gak.

It's not a plot hole. Back in 1885 Doc had already stored the time machine in an abandoned mine and closed it off so it wouldn't be disturbed until 1955. Marty goes back in time a few days before he's shot so we know he had already done this and because Doc is pissed that Marty didn't follow his instructions not to try to rescue him.

In 1955, Doc and Marty had to blast open the cave with dynamite to get inside where they found the DeLorean covered and up on blocks- Meaning that Doc had taken the proper precautions of prepping it for a 70 year long storage. He would have drained the fuel to prevent it from rusting up the fuel lines and the oil so it wouldn't gunk up the engine. If he didn't do this the engine would have been destroyed when they found it in 1955. They would have also needed to get a new battery and spark plugs in 1955 amongst several other things to get it running, even though this is not mentioned.

Mr. Fusion only powered the time circuits and the flux capacitor.

Um, no. I like Rachel McAdams well enough, but was hoping for someone more mature...I was thinking Julianna Moore.

But Hollywood always skews younger (hello, Angela Bassett = Storm). Plus, much of the timeline has the female lead at a younger age.

I know, the actress that played in White Oleander, Alison Lohman...she's got that melancholy quality that would fit.

Egads, who'll be the male lead?

here's my theory:

no, because doing so my cause an unexpected disruption in turn causing Marty never to find said hidden car in 1955; however, once Marty’s safe return to 1985 was secured, 1885 Doc salvaged the hidden car to build his time train.
