How do you get fired from your job? Turn in one of the countries most wanted fugitives apparently. More feel bad for the bad guy bullshit... I can't understand how a company can justify firing someone for this reason.

Instead of calling the Crimestopper number, he should have just taken a gun to work and shot the guy. That would have been justice ... and he would have gotten a promotion for protecting the business instead of harming it.
Eitherway - many states have unfair dismisal laws. Would this have been an instance where the government meddling in small business might have actually helped out the guy?
When it comes down to it though, do you really want to work for a company that values harbouring a criminal above an employee that turns said criminal in?

Why would that ever be a good thing? You would be OK with the government telling you how to run your business? Oh wait... I keep forgetting that Dems want the government to think for them anyway... so I guess you don't really have to answer that question...
When it comes down to it though, do you really want to work for a company that values harbouring a criminal above an employee that turns said criminal in?That was my point in asking how could a company fire someone for this? Where does that logic come from? I'd love to know who that person was voting for this coming election. Although I'm sure I already know.

They are enforced by state/federal labor laws ... except in Florida it seems.

I hate this country sometimes. I doubt he'll have trouble getting another job though. The fact that the company didn't turn in a criminal says a lot. I'm all for small, non-intrusive government but harboring a criminal (and that's what this is) is a reason to butt in.
I can understand how having the police arrest someone in your place of business is bad for business but this is much worse for business. Either they are too dumb to realize that or there is more to this story then is being told (restructuring is a tired old excuse and bad mouthing, well, I haven't heard that one).

That sucks, but its probably for the better. I wouldn't want to work for a company that had knowledge that one if it's employees was one of the countries most wanted fugitives and did nothing about it.
Too many assholes in the world. :(

Crumbles slipped in an extra "r".
The guy that was turned is was one of the COUNTY'S (Lee County, FL) most wanted (for probation violations) not one of the COUNTRY'S most wanted.
Kinda puts a different spin on things.

I knew that (missed Crumble's slip though) but it's still doesn't change a thing.
i once met a really smart and really rich man (he was the first philanthropist i ever met [he had at an early age made his money and moved on the putting money into others]) and this is what he told me (i knew it was true when i heard it)
'nice guys finish last except in the end THEN THEY ALWAYS WIN'
self respect is priceless and integrity will win you friends and influence everyone you meet and everyone that anyone who has met you meets
that is real power the power to influence to the good

Hmm...its sort of different now.
If it was something minor and he turned him in and hurt the companies image then I suppose I can see why the company came to such a decision.
It all depends really...

* Violation of Probation (3rd time)
* Burglary
* Grand Theft
i agree with the company... i absolutely hate narcsHa, that's great. I hope if a serious crime ever happens to you or your family no one helps you out because they don't want to be a "narc." Hahaha, a narc.
My favorite part is the quote from the company owner:
"I hired him as a sub-contractor, I didn't know [he] had a record, I don't care!"
Maybe she'd suddenly start caring if he was stealing from her company.

Why are you not shocked to hear me say that? If it's something minor then I really don't think it would be my place to turn him in. I'm not sending someone to jail over some parking tickets. Grand theft auto and burglary on the other hand are obviously serious though. I didn't say I would or wouldn't turn him in, just that it would depend on the severity of the situation.
If you walk by a parking meter and notice someones time expired do you run up to a meter cop and inform them about it?

Unfortunately the article is vague. It looks like there's much more to this story than what we've been told.
Which isn't too surprising coming from the media.:)
The only thing I can say is that it should have been handled internally. They didn't even mention what the outstanding warrant was for? It could have been for anything, even traffic violations. The way he narced him out seems petty. I wouldn't want someone working under me who'd do this to a fellow employee. That's something that should have been brought to a supervisor at work.
What he did was very counter productive to the work environment.

If you walk by a parking meter and notice someones time expired do you run up to a meter cop and inform them about it?See above, except replace "ticket" with "meter." In fact, pretty much do that for any other minor scenario you come up with next too. That will save our post counts from becoming sky high.
i absolutely hate narcs
you can hate on me then
a neighbor in my supposedly secure building entered my apartment while i was sleeping an stole about 10 grand of stuff
including the entire works of bach on 160 cds 2 grand
he was a crack head living in his sister's condo he probably got pennies on the dollar for what he stole
on a hunch i ran a search on him down at the courthouse 11 felonies and 8 misdemeanors
so i called a guy i knew that was an undercover narcotics officer
two days later a swat team arrested him for selling crack to an undercover officer
i looked out my window saw him in handcuffs and about 7 guys in black shirts and said 'thank you'
i am the wrong person to get on the wrong side of
